This year's pass rush is going to be fun to watch. Mack and Quinn, with Hicks up the middle. Teams will have to run two TE sets just to block the rush. Solid signing. Just not sure what we're doing on offense.

Just watched some highlights. Super high motor guy.
Probably sucking. But the defense should be a lot of fun.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 1:53 pm This year's pass rush is going to be fun to watch. Well, he gives away draft picks like they're worthless. Again, this "win-now" bullshit is a stupid strategy. It forces GMs to make really idiotic moves.

This is a huge signing. Swapping Quinn for Floyd is a huge upgrade. And Quinn has position versatility like Mack, both can play standing up or hand down. With a healthy Hicks, there’s just huge trouble. You can’t double 3 guys. Quinn is a big time pass rusher, this is Denver SB stuff with two great outside rushers. And Danny lol. Our defense is going to kick some serious ass this year - I’m going to lay off Pagano I’m rooting for this group to be GREAT. I don’t care about our CB2 really, our front 7 is going to be so dominant we could put Chris Farley back there.
Is there a better LB Corps in the NFL than:
Quinn/Roquan/Trevathan/Mack ??

The question becomes who drops into coverage? Quinn has dropped into coverage a total of like eight times in his career. Fun problem to have though.

Who cares. Floyd played about 10 percent or less in pass coverage and was less effective than Mack, Trevathon, Kwit, KPL and Smith based on passing stats against him.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 9:40 pm The question becomes who drops into coverage? The fallacy of him being some pass coverage savant was cooked up by people who didn't want to admit he was average.

Shouldnt happen a lot. Probably 60% of the snaps occur with 2 DL. Those 2 and Mack/Quinn is 4 rushers, leaving 7 in coverage.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 9:40 pm The question becomes who drops into coverage? Pagano shouldn't have to dial up many weird blitzes. Mack, Quinn, and Hicks are coming for your QB. There isn't anything to hide.

I actually had to triple check after I heard that we signed him.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 1:59 pm Just watched some highlights. Super high motor guy.
I mean, it's kind of like signing Julius Peppers back in the day, but it's also like signing Julius Peppers back in the day.
I'll bet nobody loves this more than Khalil Mack right now.

This one stunned me, but I like it. This should really be a good pairing with Mack, and both should aid the other. Quinn isn't "too old" as some have said, and our D line looks scary as hell right now. Also, I think I've read that this draft is a bit weak on Edge Rushers, so we can now effectively use our first 2 picks in other areas than TE or EDGE

Roquan, DT, Iggy are all coverage LBs. I think you will see quite a few more 4 man fronts than we have in the past too with Quinn and RRH lining up inside on passing downs (like what the Niners did with Armstead and Dee Ford).Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 9:40 pm The question becomes who drops into coverage? Yeah, both Mack and Quinn are comfortable with, and Quinn has stated he likes, to play with his hand in the dirt.wab wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 9:53 amRoquan, DT, Iggy are all coverage LBs. Those guys on the ends with Hicks and either EG or maybe RRH in the middle? Scary to block.

Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Yeah, in passing situations, offenses are screwed. But what about from our base 3-4? Are we going to make Quinn a DE? So we have Hicks, Goldman, Quinn along our DL with Mack and somebody like Iggy is our OLBs?
Can be done, but if we do that, we better make sure we bring in hard hitting SS. We're going to need some more run support with that formation.

Frankly nickel is more truely the base than "base" is. I think Quinn be an OLB in all formations.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 3:52 pmYeah, in passing situations, offenses are screwed. Actually, looking at that structure, that's a great deal for us. 2 years fully guaranteed and then three years we can deal with on a year by year basis.
2023 Preseason Downside prediction:
5-6 wins, never really healthy all season, a constant shuffling.
We're potentially in a position to draft in the Top 5 again, depending on the Carolina team, and probably have a low-teens (or better) pick ourselves.

Yeah, I've seen that concern.
He spent 1-2 yrs recently in 34 and it was a definite dropoff and returning to the 43 was a big boost for him.
