They gave up a 4th next year to move up. Color me unimpressed with this trade at this point. I'm really sick of trading future picks.
Edit: actually Hoge is now reporting it wasn't a trade up and the Bears still have 163. If so I guess it's not as bad as I thought.

Seems like high upside project player. Not what I wanted right there. Oline still has me worried.

I like Gipson a lot. He fits what they like in edge guys.

Definitely a guy I had my eye on for day 3.
I assume the plan is to add weight and bump down to 5T DE like they did with RRH, but possible they see him as a Pernell McPhee developmental type?

Exactly. I'm sure Gipson is a good player, but we need OL very bad. Had the pick been OL I'd be ok, but trading a future pick for a position that isn't nearly as in need as another is a head scratcher.

No way they're going to add weight to him. I think the McPhee comparison is dead on.The Cooler King wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:49 pm Definitely a guy I had my eye on for day 3.

Well a handful of decent IOL had just gone so he may have missed his chance there anyways. Seems like a drop off there.

Yeah, this looks like a plan for moving on from Quinn in a few years.MoFugger wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 2:03 pmNo way they're going to add weight to him. I think the McPhee comparison is dead on.The Cooler King wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:49 pm Definitely a guy I had my eye on for day 3.

With no real proven depth at OLB, I get this pick. Don't love it, but I get it.

As a side note to trading a pick from next year to move up this year. Im seeing articles written about how noone knows how the NCAA season will pan out for players and picks next year because of the virus. How would it work out if college only has a partial season or less...or none? Should teams be wary of this?

Hate that they traded a 2021 R4 for him.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

I read they reached out to Curtis Weaver, but I guess another Boise State pass rusher left a bad taste in their mouth...

I really like this pick. I thought he could’ve gone in the 3rd. Great value.
They must be super OK with the OL right now though. Yikes.

I saw a site/article somewhere that said that. Looking at his size and pro day 40, I don't see that at all.The Cooler King wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 1:49 pm Definitely a guy I had my eye on for day 3.

I think they must have been going off his 4.8-4.9 projected 40 times that some places were reporting.

Yeah, I'm not sharing that sentiment, either.
Ifedi might be a solid solution at RG (under contract for only 1 year), but I don't know how the depth can be seen as anything except terrifying.

I don't dislike the pick, just situational pass rusher did not seem like the biggest need, even on the defensive side.

Irivng/Vaughters is kind of underwhelming IMO (if he is indeed an edge and not a project DE).BearsFanInMN wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 4:34 pm I don't dislike the pick, just situational pass rusher did not seem like the biggest need, even on the defensive side.

The middle LB spot is preeeeeetty thin. I wonder if they thin Ming or Vaughters can play there in a pinch? The though of Iggy and Woods spending any time there doesn’t make me feel great.

I think that RG spot is earmarked for Ifedi. Bars becomes the primary backup at both guard spots.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:22 pmI'm guessing that they are expecting to go with Leno - Daniels - Whitehair - Bars - Massie. Could be worse.

We were pretty spoiled there last year although wasn't KPL kind of a scrap heap guy? Maybe they feel it's a good spot for them to fill with some bodies and just let the camp competition to decide.
