I know it’s the 7th round and all, but I don’t love the idea of wasting picks on camp bodies.

I'm guessing that the Bears are confident that either Bars or Mustipher will take over for Long.

The Bears have decent depth at most spots. Late round picks are going to turn up some guys who aren't in your top 53 and you have to try and hold on the PS. And some of them will be beat out by a UDFA. Just the way it is.

I think that spot is Ifedi's to lose. Bars, Spriggs, and Coward backing up and our two 7th rounders for the practice squad.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:18 pm I'm guessing that the Bears are confident that either Bars or Mustipher will take over for Long.

I also have to hope they see something in Bars and/or Mustipher that we haven't had a chance to see yet. Coward, I think we've all seen that he isn't an answer (unless it really has been a coaching problem, which I doubt). The Cooler King wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:22 pmOr CowardBears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:18 pm I'm guessing that the Bears are confident that either Bars or Mustipher will take over for Long.

Need to see the 6'7" Coward at OT. He's too tall to play OG. He may not be any good at OT either. But that's the position he's built for. Bet OT is the only place you see him in TC.Middleguard wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:39 pmI also have to hope they see something in Bars and/or Mustipher that we haven't had a chance to see yet. Coward isn’t quite 6’7. I think he’s a shade under 6’6. But otherwise, yes I agree with you. He was playing RG like he was trying to play RT.
But there’s no guarantee Coward even makes the final roster.
Spriggs, Bars, Levin, this rookie, and Coward should be a decent 2nd string. I don’t know what to make of the Arlington guy.

I'm just worried becuase I think I just read something from Pace about Coward and how they're still high in him and using his position switch as an excuse. Obviously could be BS/fluff, but well see. Hell either look patient and brilliant or stubborn and dumb if Coward is the opening day RG.

...at a position a) he isn't built to play, b) the team didn't have in mind when they moved him to offense and c) he never practiced until the week they told him he was starting.
Other than that, yeah, he was bad.

I think a lot of people recognized even during the season that while the Oline is a concern the circumstances with the contracts for the tackles and the two good guys switching really only had the RG spot open as a need they really had to pay attention to.
Whether we agree or not they decided to "blame Harry" and the OC, and are operating as if bringing in a new coach will in fact help get the line performing better. They could have spent draft capital on a RG but then still had less than desirable performance from a rookie in this upcoming season. So they signed two FAs to seal that gap for one year.
Long and short of it, they're going into this season with an Oline they hope will play better and it is a combination of contract circumstances & experiment. Then if it doesn't work, we can expect to see 3 new bodies starting in '21. If it DOES work then Pace can take a slower pace drafting OL and rebuilding. But he's testing it first.
And there isn't a path here unhappy enough to cost them their jobs. Because the defense is so damn good Tyler Bray could QB them to 8 wins.

Thanks for this find. Makes me feel a little better about him than assuming he's the usual 7th round no-name project. Division II or not, that dude looks mean.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Sat Apr 25, 2020 5:32 pm Never heard of him. Yeah, it's Division II, but this guy looks like he's playing against children

OK, I am officially pulling for this guy. There is a video on the Bears site with Pace and Joniak going over the Bears' draft picks. Pace says Mr. Simmons is a country boy that goes by the name of PIG!!! Every offensive line needs a guy named Pig!

I'm a broken record on this but Juan Castillo has a history of taking late round/undrafted, athletic linemen and beating them over the head with technique. This dude and Arlington Hambright likely will be on the practice squad and have a role in 2021, unless they take to his coaching/technique immediately.
Can't teach this athleticism but you can teach technique.
