It kind of makes sense. I believe after this season Rodgers contract escalates and they're going to owe him a boatload of money.
you get the kid in now to play backup for the season and put Rogers on the trading block next year.

Lot's of headlines about Rogers being 'blindsided', although I believe the technical term these days is 'Glennoned'.

There isn't a lot of guaranteed money left on Rodgers's Deal - Granted some Signing Bonus/Restructure Bonus stuff that makes moving on after 2021 more likely than 2020....
His Cap Hits for a team trading for him are very, very reasonable
2021. 14.7 or 21.5. (Depending on if dealt before or after Roster Bonus paid
2022. 25.5
2023 25.5

And it only got worse that they drafted a RB in R2.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Packer fan son thinks Matt LaFleur is enamored with creating an offense similar to the Derrick Henry centric one in Tennessee last year. And he's ready to puke. Yeah, take the ball out of the hands of your HOF QB (who you've only given 1 WR to throw to. Good plan.

So they’re going to run the ball and play good defense while Jordan Love develops? Isn’t this gonna wreck the locker room?

Watching Jordan Love highlights, one thing is pretty clear. His footwork sucks, and he throws off of odd stances all the time. He throws to receivers that have a step or a step & a half on their man, that won't be there in the NFL. I hope Rodgers is having long and angry conversations with his agent.

Yeah, I mean honestly I think it makes a boatload of sense. Time and time again the last year or two with a franchise QB who's been around forever is just weird for the team. He's been the man for so long you know lots of people are sick of his shit... he's taking up a boatload of cap space. I dont blame LaFleur one bit for wanting to get a head start on the inevitable rebuild. I have no doubt in my mind that the help that everyone is clamoring for on the offensive side of the ball is coming next year.

Here are the Cap Hits for Rodgers 2021-2023 for a team that trades for Rodgers (I.E. This is ONLY what GB would clear by dealing Rodgers)RustyTrubisky wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 8:12 amYeah, I mean honestly I think it makes a boatload of sense. That is not bad - Would only add to his as a trade chip
Granted Rookie QBs are pretty much ALWAYS going to be much, much cheaper than even a solid Vet let alone a good Vet(*)
(*) Having even a solid QB, let alone a stud, on his Rookie contract is the ultimate NFL Cheat code (stealing from others there)
Now the other thing about drafting Love this year as part of the plan - How long do you hold onto Rodgers?
You are burning one of those valuable Love rookie contract years in 2020 (part of the allure of the Drafted QB IMHO) - Would you burn another one in 2021?

I'm gone. Have a nice life. I'm clearly not wanted here.

I wonder if Rodgers Bears-slayer superpower would be enough to counteract our QB curse. The Grizzly One wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 10:23 am Hmmm...Rodgers parts ways with the Packers, signs with the Bears and wins two Super Bowls here...hmmm

He'd come to the Bears and throw 37 interceptions before blowing out both knees.Xee wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 3:04 pmI wonder if Rodgers Bears-slayer superpower would be enough to counteract our QB curse. The Grizzly One wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 10:23 am Hmmm...Rodgers parts ways with the Packers, signs with the Bears and wins two Super Bowls here...hmmm
