Highlights...4 prime time games, including Tom Brady at home. Finally catching a break early in our schedule (we usually start off with really hard ones) by getting Detroit/NYG. Finish off the season, at home, against the Peckers.

Couple follow up comments...I'm worried about that Week 1 game vs Detroit, Week 1 is always a funny week. That said, I don't REALLY think we'll lose to Atlanta in Week 3, I just decided to split the baby and go 1-1 or those two games. And I just realized I screwed up putting a L for Jacksonville, I expect we'll beat them. Revising up to 11-5.

Also, the early powder puff defenses that we'll face makes me increase the chances of Mitch being our starter for a bit longer now. He should show well against those two defenses if he gets the job out of camp as most of us expect.

That schedule looks pretty favorable. If the Bears can have any kind of stable offense early, they could conceivably win 6-7 of the first 8 games.

This season is going to fall 100% on the shoulders on the offensives line. You know the D will be there, but the line needs to come together so the offense can do things. I know that is the issue with Montgomery, but I am pretty sure that is the issue with Mitch too. If the line plays good they will have a chance to win every game. There really is no team on the schedule that leaps out as the Bears will be big underdogs.

10-6, which is up from my original 9-7 prediction. I don't have a good feel for this team yet .... they are better are many position groups and they went 8-8 against a first place schedule with atrocious QB play.

QB: Better
RB: Same
WR: Same, possibly slightly better
TE: Much Better
OL: Same
DL: Better with Hicks
Edge: Better
LB: Same (depth is worse)
CB: Better
S: Same to Better (Gipson vs Clinton-Dix, I don't think it's a downgrade, but don't know if it's an upgrade yet)

Everyone so far has us losing to Tennessee, I don't see it. Barring another Hicks injury, they won't be able to run on us and if you can stop Henry they can't do shit.

Easy start for the whole team, but particularly for Mitch, IF he wins the job, to bum slay for a few weeks and secure the job longer.

I think Foles has a good (>50%) chance to win outright though. But if Mitch can win the job week 1 he couldn't ask for a better slate to build some confidence.

Sept. 13: at Detroit - W - Bears seem to have Detroits number lately, especially Mitch
Sept. 20: vs. New York Giants - L - Bears shouldnt lose but they will since it always seems to happen so my family can gloat all week about the Giants
Sept. 27: at Atlanta - W - I have no respect for the Falcons and neither should the Bears
Oct. 4: vs. Indianapolis - W - I have little respect for the Colts and that is mostly from the Rivers of the past, not present
Oct. 8: vs. Tampa Bay, TNF - W - Brady gives me pause but otherwise I don't respect the Bucs
Oct. 18: at Carolina - W - I think this will be an easy win
Oct. 26: at Los Angeles Rams, MNF - W - tough to say about the Rams but I think(as I believe someone else stated above) the Bears broke Goff and will again here
Nov. 1: vs. New Orleans - L - if the weather drops below 20 I would switch this to a win but I think the Saints otherwise have the Bears number
Nov. 8: at Tennessee - W - Titans are a solid team but not great and the Bears are great at stopping the run which is the key here
Nov. 16: vs. Minnesota, MNF - L - I hate playing the Viks on MNF
Nov. 29: at Green Bay, SNF - L - because the Packers always beat us in Prime Time
Dec. 6: vs. Detroit - W - see week 1
Dec. 13: vs. Houston - W - tough one but at home so we will go with the W
Dec. 20: at Minnesota - W - I don't see them dropping two to the Viks
Dec. 27: at Jacksonville - W - Bears should have no respect for a bad Jags team and Minshew is going to be expose this season
Jan. 3: vs. Green Bay - L - just because Rodgers is a prick and whenever I pick Chicago over GB the Bears blow it

11-5 on the season but I could see 2 more wins or 2 more losses

I'll go 12-4 with L's against IND, NO, MIN, DET. The Pukers will be team turmoil as Rodgers ends up throwing to himself since he's the only reliable WR on the team. Goff will crap down his leg again like two years ago (a big highlight from that season), Tom Terrific will be turned into a GoAT sandwich between Mack and Quinn, Titans will be unable to run and Watson will be on the sideline by the time the Bears play Houston.

Will the Lions finally put it together? The Minny D will not be as strong as previous seasons and their offense depends on the fragile ego of Cousins.

I thought the Bears have historically had a difficult time against Indy. I suppose it's still the purple pain from 13 years ago though they are 24-19 all-time against the Bears. They have a good bit of talent on both sides of the ball and are tough in the trenches, so the Bears may have their hands full against them.
San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

Sept. 13: at Detroit - W. The Lions will be trash again
Sept. 20: vs. New York Giants - W. The Giants will be trash again.
Sept. 27: at Atlanta - W. Did they really improve that defense? It doesn't seem like it
Oct. 4: vs. Indianapolis - L. I don't love rivers but the rest of their offseason additions were solid. They'll be a good team.
Oct. 8: vs. Tampa Bay, TNF - L. Their defense was great last year and now they have a better offense.
Oct. 18: at Carolina - W. Their defense is very young and I don't see how they score on us
Oct. 26: at Los Angeles Rams, MNF - W. The Bears own Goff, but will our offense show up? I'm guessing yes.
Nov. 1: vs. New Orleans - L. Their underrated defense got better. Super Bowl contenders again.
Nov. 8: at Tennessee - L. I think the Titans might be a deeper team and by early November injuries should be impacting games.
Nov. 16: vs. Minnesota, MNF - W. It's Kirby Cousins on primetime so wtf
BYE
Nov. 29: at Green Bay, SNF - L. It's Bears-Packers on primetime so fml
Dec. 6: vs. Detroit - W. Cuz Lions.
Dec. 13: vs. Houston - L. Bill O'Brien tried to ruin this team but they're still decent and have a better QB
Dec. 20: at Minnesota - L. They're actually a better team, and this time it's NOT primetime
Dec. 27: at Jacksonville - W. Jax will be trash again.
Jan. 3: vs. Green Bay - W? A bit of a tossup here. Who is playing QB on either side in this game?

9-7 with the Bears 1-1 in tossup games. Great defense plus bad offense = mediocre team. Same old story

There isn't a single team in the NFL that should be picked to lose to the "we're tanking the shit out of this season and don't care who knows it" Jacksonville Jaguars.

Offense improving to pedestrian/average and our defense remaining elite = 11-5

Like 2018, we clinch the North at home vs a disappointing GB team who will be staying at home in January. This time, in the final week, though.

I always say 9-7 as guarded optimist but I think with health and a decent offense hard pressed to see any games that scare me outside of Saints. Packers are always tough due to 12, Falcons seem to be a crap the bed game, Titans are tough under Vrabel, and we always lose a head scratcher so tough to see 11-5 not be plausible.

My guess:

Sept. 13: at Detroit - L Why does everyone forget the Bears' Detroit struggles, and how good Stafford was playing last year? He's going to come out hot. The Bears are going to come out with a controversial QB in a truly hostile environment where the Bear D rarely plays well. Can the Bear O put up 34? Nope.
Sept. 20: vs. New York Giants - W
Sept. 27: at Atlanta - L This is a tough call. But given it's in the dome and Matty Ice doing his thing... Bear O likely cannot keep up even with that D. It's kind like the Stafford thing. These are good QBs.
Oct. 4: vs. Indianapolis - W QB Change at halftime, with a 10-14 point deficit, zero offense and Nagy not willing to go into Tampa game at 1-3. Bears rally to win, including key stops from an energized D - setting the tone for the rest of the season.
Oct. 8: vs. Tampa Bay, TNF - W Huge, playoff-atmosphere game. Coming off the Indy rally, the Bear D finally lights it up with the best NFL defensive performance of the year.
Oct. 18: at Carolina - W
Oct. 26: at Los Angeles Rams, MNF - W
Nov. 1: vs. New Orleans - L See you at home for the NFCC.
Nov. 8: at Tennessee - W
Nov. 16: vs. Minnesota, MNF - W
Nov. 29: at Green Bay, SNF - W
Dec. 6: vs. Detroit - W
Dec. 13: vs. Houston - W
Dec. 20: at Minnesota - L
Dec. 27: at Jacksonville - W
Jan. 3: vs. Green Bay - W

Final record: 12-4

Nate Davis from USA Today predicted 3-13 for the Bears. Even if you're down on the team I find that pretty stupid.

Someone should put all of these predictions in a spreadsheet and see for each game if the majority consensus is a W or a L. Maybe none of us by ourselves will guess each game correctly but I'm curious how close we can get collectively.

I'm taking a week off next week so I might do that if I get some time.

I have us at 7 wins, 6 losses, 3 Toss-up games that could go either way. Our season probably comes down to beating GB in Week 17.

Sept. 13: at Detroit - W
Sept. 20: vs. New York Giants - W
Sept. 27: at Atlanta - Toss-up (I think ATL is going to be significantly improved over last year)
Oct. 4: vs. Indianapolis - Toss-Up (Rivers behind that O-line is going to give us problems)
Oct. 8: vs. Tampa Bay, TNF - L (I think the curse of Tom Brady continues and he beats us by 1 score because their defense is very good)
Oct. 18: at Carolina - W
Oct. 26: at Los Angeles Rams, MNF - W (I think we match up well vs Rams. Even though we under-perform in prime-time)
Nov. 1: vs. New Orleans - L (NO probably the best team in NFC)
Nov. 8: at Tennessee - L (I think Tennessee's ground attack hits us at our weak spot and they stymie our offense with clever D)
Nov. 16: vs. Minnesota, MNF - W (I think we continue to own the Vikings at home under Nagy)
Nov. 29: at Green Bay, SNF - L (at least two critical bad officiating calls to secure a GB victory)
Dec. 6: vs. Detroit - W (I think we sweep Detroit)
Dec. 13: vs. Houston - L (The annual regret game)
Dec. 20: at Minnesota - L (I don't see us sweeping the Vikes again this year, I think they beat us in their house)
Dec. 27: at Jacksonville - W
Jan. 3: vs. Green Bay - Toss-up (and I hate to say it. Fucking Green Bay)
2023 Preseason Downside prediction:
5-6 wins, never really healthy all season, a constant shuffling.
We're potentially in a position to draft in the Top 5 again, depending on the Carolina team, and probably have a low-teens (or better) pick ourselves.

I have the Bears as underdogs in all of their away games and against the Giants and Saints at home. But in those 2 home games I have the Bears down by only 1/2 point. Eight other games I have the favorite by 3 or less, and no game do I have the favorite by more than 5.

Even tho I only favor the Bears in 6 games, I think 8 wins is their most likely finish:
13% 5 or less
14% 6-10
19% 7-9
20% 8-8
16% 9-7
10% 10-6
8% 11 or more

Yeah I don't get the Atlanta love. Their ship sailed. They may be quick on the turf but our defense will be crazy quick. Now if we can only score some points...

Yes the Saints rightly are favored to beat us. Doesn't mean the Bears CAN'T beat them. Lets see what happens.

If things go the Bears way as I hope...we could, and will, beat them.
I'm gone. Have a nice life. I'm clearly not wanted here.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but since (at this time anyhow), we've done very little to upgrade the Offensive Line (which I consider the most important unit on any team), here are my predictions:

Sept. 13: at Detroit - L
Sept. 20: vs. New York Giants - W
Sept. 27: at Atlanta - L
Oct. 4: vs. Indianapolis - L
Oct. 8: vs. Tampa Bay, TNF - L
Oct. 18: at Carolina - W
Oct. 26: at Los Angeles Rams, MNF - L
Nov. 1: vs. New Orleans - L
Nov. 8: at Tennessee - L
Nov. 16: vs. Minnesota, MNF - L
Nov. 29: at Green Bay, SNF - L
Dec. 6: vs. Detroit - W
Dec. 13: vs. Houston - L
Dec. 20: at Minnesota - L
Dec. 27: at Jacksonville - W
Jan. 3: vs. Green Bay - L

That puts us at 4-12. I could maybe see us going 6-10 best case scenario. I could see us going 3-13 for the worst case scenario. I think Detroit will be formidable this year.

I would love to be wrong and hope I am. Pace simply doesn't know how to build a team on the offensive side of the ball. If he makes a number of solid moves to bolster the offensive line in the next FA, perhaps I would need to revisit the above prediction.
