Pro bowl RG cut by Saints, would come cheap, IMO we should make this move.

This is where you have to ask yourself what Nagy wants. If it's power, you see what you can do. If it's movement and athleticism, you walk on by. Of course, it seems like a lot of teams are going for movement over size. So does that reduce demand and price? Sure sounds good to me though if we can afford it.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Now according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, GM Ryan Pace and the team have interest in him.
From the Trib:
Warford was due to earn a base salary of $7.65 million in the final season of a four-year, $34 million, contract. The Saints already paid him a $750,000 roster bonus, and he is going to count $5.125 million in dead money against their cap.

The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best, but my best eleven.

I bet less. Saints are paying him a lot so he can take less to play where he wants.

I actually don't think they are paying him much. Looks like the actual cash owed is just a 750k workout bonus. The rest of the dead cap is in previously paid pro-rated bonuses. So he has quite a bit in the bank, but as far as future earnings go this isn't a Trey Burton situation where the Bears are still paying 4M in salary this year.
In other words he has plenty of motivation to maximize his next contract (no offsets).

there's probably going to be half a dozen teams pursuing him, easy, so if we do somehow manage to snag him, it'll be at a price that the board will instantly decry as way too much. but boy i would feel alot better, and we'd have ifedi as our primary backup at both guard and tackle i'd think. That would certainly be much better than i was expecting us to look next year.

They have less space than you probably think.
I'm not sure they can justify that cost. Not with an Arob deal coming up, high uncertainty of the QB cost next year, high uncertainty of revenue in 2020 and its cap effect, and not with only 25 players (plus the new rookies once they have deals) under contract for 2021.
Yes you can almost always find room for a single deal, but you're playing a risky game every time you leverage those cap maneuvers. And you have to ask for what? A high impact edge rusher? Sure. A near 30 IOL? Eehhh.

He’d be a clear upgrade over Coward and likely starts over Ifedi. Makes our team better and is only 29. I’m in.

As of late yesterday:
https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... ord-chase/
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Bears are not pursuing the three-time Pro Bowler.
It’s unclear whether the Bears were ever officially in on the chase for Warford. They reportedly were considering it. Regardless, they currently are not.

2023 Preseason Downside prediction:
5-6 wins, never really healthy all season, a constant shuffling.
We're potentially in a position to draft in the Top 5 again, depending on the Carolina team, and probably have a low-teens (or better) pick ourselves.

It's worse than that.
It's 10M for 51 man, but under 8.5 for 53.
Then there's also some new signings (Ginn, Gipson, etc), which aren't known and included yet.
The real amount is probably about 5.
And you have to have some available for flexibility.
And in most years you "roll over" money from the past year.
If they spent 100% of 2020, 2021 gets really tight with no rollover.

ETA: you probably also want to leave a comfortable cushion for Foles incentives being hit. Those aren't counting now but you don't want to end up in a situation where those cause you to go over at the end of the year.

Cornavirus is going to be an elephant in the Room on Cap Stuff. You could decently project Cap to go up (maybe by A LOT) over the next 3-4 years - Maybe less nowMoriarty wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 9:26 amIt's worse than that.

It's fiendishly easy to borrow from future years on the Cap though

They could save a few million by extending and restructuring Allen Robinson if they wanted to.

It will be interesting to watch how this extension talk goes, especially with revenue doubts lingering and Amari Cooper setting the market a bit more than I expected at 20m per. Arob could easily be at 4/70 in New money, tagged onto his last year for a total of 5/85. If 40-50 of that is guaranteed, the 2020 savings are far less than I would have projected at the outset of this offseason.crueltyabc wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 2:32 pm They could save a few million by extending and restructuring Allen Robinson if they wanted to.

Because people's heads would explode if we traded future Draft Capital. Where would next year's Arlington Hambright come from??????!!!
I read an article this weekend that said a fair amount of veteran OLs come become cap casualties in the next week or so: Zach Fulton (Texans), Gabe Jackson (Raiders), Brian Winters (J-E-T-S) .... and I'd still like to know more about Kelchi Osemele, who was maybe the best OG in the NFL before going to the J-E-T-S, who released him over an injury dispute.

It's worth noting, however, that we dropped Sitton when we brought in Nagy. Personally, I love me some big beast power guards, but It doesn't seem like they're a fit for Nagy's system. It appears that Nagy's looking for movement type over power. Don't think this signing is going to happen, but who knows?

You don't think these guys are big beast power guards?
Ifedi - 6'5 323
Coward - 6'5 325
Long - 6'6 330
The LT, LG, and C are all 6'3 305. The RG and RT are 6'6 325
I think it's clear where they like power players. Nothing would suggest that Warford would be a bad fit schematically.

I think they have power, absolutely, but I think for this scheme we want foot speed and lateral quickness as well as power.wab wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 1:36 pm You don't think these guys are big beast power guards?

Ifedi is massive but also had a 1.79 ten yard split. That's up there with Jason Kelce (1.76 tend yard split) who did that at 280 lbs.
Long had a 1.74 split, Coward had a 1.81, etc.
