I hope he can also block, catch, and play defense....wow

Another way of looking at this if you want to stay positive: The Bears saved 400M by selecting Trubisky over Mahomes. ;)

It's now being reported as a $503M ($477M guaranteed)10 year extension on the end of his rookie deal, have him for 12 more years. Time to start drafting a QB every couple years because it just got too expensive to have a franchise QB and team around him.

Wow. Great for him but I wouldn't mind the Bears settling for an a "decent" quarterback if that is what a franchise QB is going for these days.

So I will admit, I am not a contract guy by any means so I have to ask, let's say he just phones it in going forward and his numbers are way down. How much of that almost half a billion is his to keep? Does "guaranteed" literally mean just that or is there a lot of fine print and legalese that goes with it?

I was hoping he was not going to break the bank. I was hoping he would look at the long run and see for the best of the team he didn't need to become the highest paid. I was hoping he would "settle" for $30 some million. I see a big KC drought coming after the next 2 yrs.

We shall see how Dak negotiates after this. Dak isn't even in the same country as Mahomes.

looking at the contract breakdown on spotrac, this looks like a 5-6 year deal before his base salary really starts to jump and the cap hit gets beyond what is sustainable. but who knows. He can be cut with little to no dead cap space in 3 years, so the Chiefs do have plenty of ways to get out of dodge if Mahomes drops off a cliff in his performance
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Dont think this is true - the next 2 years aren't that bad (this year in particular is very cheap)

Correct. But the poster I responded to somehow suggested that if he was here with that same contract it might have somehow precluded getting Mack and paying him

Which is just wouldn't have

For me... the sheer joy of watching Mahomes play football is second only to anticipating and watching the beloved play every week. The kid is transcendent.
