Well that opens up a roster spot for Edwards for a bit.

Still wish we would have signed Gay when he hi the open market. :frustrated: :frustrated:

I'll copy what I said in the other:

That's definite an unexpected surprise to the Bears, otherwise they would IRed him right away.

They're going to need to elevate Santos (and drop someone else) sooner or later - you can't protect & play him for long.

Also didn't realize they made a temp rule for coming back from IR so fast this year.

Yeah I hadn't heard of the "can return after week 3" rule before reading that.

Me neither. So I'm going to guess that it is really just more of a function of needing a spot for Edwards than Eddie Money being that hurt. He hasn't kicked all camp and they said they're keeping 2 kickers this year. So why not use the IR spot strategically.

Of course it is a "story" because, you know - there's a "double doink" curse now for the Bears until they get a kicker to stick for 10 years.

On second thought, maybe that's not true.

You may have to have them on the 53 man at deadline before you can move them to the returnable IR.

Yea there some strategy, but with a 3 week IR, and a two week PS->active roster safeguard, they clealry meant to put a limit on this.

For at least 1 week this year there will likely be 2 kickers on the 53 (55) man roster.

(side note, with a 55 man GameDay roster with PS promotions, is the 46 man active roster gone this year?)

Bears are absolutely going to be one of those teams that drafts a kicker in the first few rounds.

They're protecting his groin, should be back after week 3 unless Santos is killing it.

Am I remembering correctly that he suffered a groin injury last season as well? Also injured his rookie season? Is this gonna be like a thing for Eddy?

how Bearsy that the team has kicking issues even before the first game

isn't the replacement kicker the guy who imploded after being drafted by the Bucaneers? or was that someone other than Santos?

That was Roberto Aguayo. He was supposed to be the surest thing to ever kick a ball. I believe the Bears had him on the roster for a hot minute.

Santos was with the Bucs at some point, but it was last year with the Titans that he imploded 4-9 on FGs. Not really sure why he is thought to be a good replacement.

We signed him in November 2017.... he wiffed his first FG.... then pulled his groin a week later and went on IR. Good times.

The KC connection is probably the main reason he's on the team.

I get that but it seem WEAK!!!!!!! I understand wanting that with a QB and to a lesser degree every other player on the team that not a punter or just a long snapper. Understanding the basic concepts a coach likes to do or terminology is important. But with the three special team guys it breaks down like this:

Coach to long snapper "snap the ball to the punter or holder."

Coach to punter "Catch the snap and punt the ball" will have brief talk about sky kicks, which side to go to, pinning inside the 20 and when to go out of bounds. He has the system down in 5 minutes.

Coach to kicker "on extra points and field goals, kick it between the upright and never double doink it." then a 15 talk about which side he prefers it from on certain distances, when he wants to simply kick it deep on kickoffs vs avoiding certain return guys, when he wants a sky kick to come down at the and try to have the coverage team tackle them deep.

Just don't see how have a connection with a kicker trumps being, I don't know, actually good at kicking???????????????? :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:

I think I might like Santos more than Pineiro. His FGs seem to go dead center of the pipes with minimal movement. With Pineiro it's always drifting left or right...

I thought week 4 or 5 was the earliest he can come off the reserve list.

I think it's been modified this year to be three weeks, seem like I read that somewhere as well.

Realizing I misread and you said after week 3. I thought j had read 4 weeks, but maybe week 4 was the return week. It's definitely earlier than normal. It used to be like week 10 or 11 I think.

Especially high

If it's a 6th or 7th - who cares - Your odds of getting a good football player there are much, much less - so Don't worry about position at that point

Eh, even 6th or 7th...

Maybe more based on what pick of yours they are. If you're on your own 9th pick of that draft, maybe go wild. Draft a LS even! But don't spend a 7th on a specialist if you have a 6 man draft class, for instance.

I thought that was the rule for when to get a backup QB???? Isn't that what we figured out over at CBFANS :frustrated: :welcome: :frustrated: :welcome:
