There's some noise that he can go as high as 8, which is insane to me.

It would not surprise me even a little if all 5 QBs are off the board in the first 12 picks.

Nor I.

And not necessarily in the expected order, either.

Agreed. I’m thinking Lance might go before Fields.

Wilson almost certainly will. He's got "the look."

...and I'll not comment beyond that, out of deference to the mods on site.

Daniel Jeremiah ranks him 34th:

Jones has average size and athleticism for the quarterback position. He's operated out of the shotgun and pistol, showing incredible accuracy, efficiency and poise. He is a high-effort thrower, with slightly above-average arm strength. He's at his best on touch throws, where he can anticipate and place the ball on the proper shoulder of his target. He shows toughness to hang in versus pressure, although he rarely faced it with an elite offensive line protecting him. He isn't much of a threat as a runner and he lacks the twitch to consistently escape and buy extra time. Jones should become a starting NFL quarterback, but his lack of twitch and athleticism will limit the playbook with the way the game is trending.

If that “big armed athlete” is the type of guy you are after, you are gonna have to wait until next year.

Mac has modelled his game after Joe Burrows' 2019 season. He has tried to extend plays in the pocket like Burrows did last year. Both had great WRs and RBs. Can he duplicate Burows' success in the pros? Some like Charlie Weis think so, that Jones has both leadership skills and unbelievable accuracy. Others say that, if the Bears did draft him, he would be the starter from day 1.
Drafts are like snowflakes, no two are alike.

I honestly think Mac Jones at 20 is by far the best case scenario at this point this offseason. I would say it is only a 40% chance he would be on the board at this point unless he bombs his interviews or fights a MMA fighter in the bathroom at a bar.

He should interview great

Real question: Assuming he isn't injured beyond recognition - Would fighting an MMA fighter actually hurt his stock?

I think a lot of Football guys (and his potential teammates) might weirdly respect that

The Oklahoma WR did not fare too well in his bathroom brawl with a MMA fighter.

Hard to get respect when your face gets punched in. Fighting can be great, losing happens. It's hard to take a positive out of a man beating your face while riding you like a pony.

Been in a few donnybrooks. But this is in response to the video of the Oklahoma football players getting their ass kicked.

As someone who boxed for 6 years, I can assure you, there’s not many positives to be taken from looking up at a dude that just hit you in the head really really hard.

Similar trainung experiences I can concur. Hard to claim it's a positive. Being on the other side though is euphoric.

That whole "it's not about getting knocked down, it's about getting back up" motivational poster flies right out the window when your legs stop working, your ears are ringing, and your mouth tastes like pennies.

But yes, being on the other side...there's just no feeling quite like it.

As a guy who studied judo, my fav part of that video is where his buddy gets thrown into the wall in the background.

Anyway, I just see Jones as too similar to the guy other teams are trying to replace. The Kirk Cousins comps ring true to me. So I get it that he's cheaper than Kirk Cousins but just on the basis that most draft picks are 50-50 it's just as likely that he's AJ McCarran as Kirk Cousins and Kirk Cousins is... not great

He's better than AJ in every facet of the game

I think the comp is Joe Burrow still

I think Jones is going to the Niners at #3, with the trade that just happened.

That'd be interesting, to say the least.

I've honestly come to think that he doesn't get past Carolina at #8 in any case.

The fact that Jones was considered immature until this year scares the hell out of me.
Did he finally grow up or was it to help his draft stock? If you believe it was he finally grew up then take him. If not then stay the hell away.

Doesn't matter how much talent Tua or Hurds had on their teams? He could not beat either one out. I believe Saban has earned the respect to guess who is better.

It's silly that people think he's safe pick. He's got a small sample size of starts and a very small sample size of throws under pressure.

LOT of buzz that the 49ers moved up to #3 for him, not Fields or Lance.
