Seems like a stretch based on the zero amount of information we all have, but ok.
Update: Eddie Goldman officially reports to training camp

if we're all honest about this, there's really only two possibilities that could be the cause his absence:
one is that he's a CIA asset currently fighting the cartels in central america.
second is he's currently half-way through gender reassignment therapy, and he's not sure if he's ready to be the nfl's first female player.
either way i respect his decision and everyone on the defensive line is going to have to step up to get through this.

I think he could probably argue Covid to prevent him from having to give up any of his signing bonus. Probably wouldn't collect on his 3 mil roster bonus this year though.dplank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 11:46 am Goldman has not earned enough money to walk away IMO. He's made about 8M so far, but if he retires he'd have to give some of his 3M signing bonus money back (not sure how much). Then he'd be walking away from 7M this year, plus another 22M in 2022 and 2023 combined - a lot of that is guaranteed and even the unguaranteed part is a pretty safe bet he'd earn it all.
He's young, he could maybe live off what he's earned, but it would be fairly modest if it needed to carry him and his family for what, 50 or 60 years?
If I'm the Bears, I'm pressing him hard for answers. Because if he's gonna retire, we get back 7.8M of cap space this year and could use that money to shore up the line properly.
I seriously doubt, however, that he's going to retire. He'll be here for training camp. Nagy didn't seem too worried about it.

Don't leave out a scheduling conflict with the meeting schedule of Skulls & Bones and/or Bohemian Grove.

The front seven is going to be really fucking scary.
If we can just get Mr. Club Foot to produce.
Hicks
Goldman
Nichols
Mack
Trevathan
Roquan
Quinn
Shit.
It's entirely possible, and likely, to have an elite defense, if Desai is competent.

It is the dead season of the NFL and we have to make stuff up. We need to speculate which movie franchise our CBs belong in, what is Eddie Goldman's side job that is keeping him off the field, and why you love or hate the possible move to AH (which seems like at 99% certainty at this point).

It's brutal man, I'll stack our front 7 against anyone in the league. Health will be the key, I am oddly confident in Desai - just a gut feel. I'm also comforted knowing that there's no way he'll be worse than Pagano. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 9:37 am The front seven is going to be really fucking scary.

I think he's going to teach the defense exceptionally well, especially based on comments from the experienced vets on our defense. Accountability and attention to detail was mentioned, which makes me happy but also bothers me that it apparently wasn't the case last season.dplank wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 11:08 amIt's brutal man, I'll stack our front 7 against anyone in the league. Question will boil down to if Desai knows how to call a game and how to predict what the offense is going to do. I recall defensive players saying Fangio was a Wizard and seemingly knew what the offense was going to do before they did it.
