No question it went badly. And Pace did well to hold firm (sort of, eventually - I think their initial offer was still a bad idea, IIRC).
I'd go easy on his agent, though. After he remained productive through years of bad offense, bad HC/OC, and bad QB, who saw that massive drop in 2021 productivity coming?
There's always a risk in not taking bird in hand, of course. But that was pretty surprising.

Yup, also inflation brings down that number more and I'm pretty CA taxes are going to take a good bite out of it as well.

I'm curious if this was the best offer he got or if he was willing to go with a lower bidder who gave him a better shot at a ring.

If we're looking at WR's, he's #7. If we're looking at all players, he's actually #11, which somehow is even more sad. Alshon was the last great receiver we've had.

Sure in pure yards, but he's the shortest tenured on that list. As far as peak performance goes, he's much higher.

I know the common take is that Mooney is not #1 material but his production has just been going up and on a per-game average, his numbers aren't that far off Robinson's. He can knock Robinson off the #11 spot if he's able to get back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons in '22 and '23.

Will he be an effective #2 WR behind Kupp? It seemed like he was #2 behind Mooney last season. It will be interesting to see how Stafford distributes the rock between Kupp, ARob and Woods. OBJ is not listed on the Rams depth chart and after getting ARob they may not pursue him.

The Rams can't resign everyone, but in the nfl.com report about ARob Pelissero reported "a Beckham-Rams pairing remains in play despite the Robinson signing". We'll see how that plays out.

That's a problem with this franchise. This team desperately needs some Prime Time with the gold chains and fur coats. But you'd have to have elite players for that first.

Willie was a deep threat but not really a #1 guy IMO. My favorite (and the most productive, IMO) receiver on the superbowl Bears was Dennis McKinnon. I always really like that "work hard, highly reliable #2 guy". It is what ARob would have been if he had more "go get it" and ball security, and could block. If anyone questions what I mean by "go get it" just watch Horsted.

I do see parallels with this year's WRs and some groups of the past. I see Mooney as being Gault or Curtis Conway type. Very similar. And I see Byron Pringle as being very similar to McKinnon or Jeff Graham. As a matter of fact, Graham had a very similar rise at Pittsburgh and then exploded on the Bears for two seasons before he moved on... doubled his stats. He moved on to the Jets and of course on the Jets nobody does well. But when Graham went to SD he had several good seasons like he did with the Bears. And he started very modestly on the Steelers just like Pringle on the Chiefs.

That's my analogy for Pringle. I think he's the next Jeff Graham for the Bears.

That is NOT to say I don't want more WR firepower. I think they still need to build with youth and pick one in the 2nd. I'm starting to think maybe that alpha #1 WR might be one of those big fast guys in the 2nd round. Hoping, anyway.

One thing I liked about the Trestman Era was that Cutty was surrounded by tall guys. My namesake Brandon Marshall, Jeffrey and then psycho Bennett. That height advantage really helped out. I'd love to see that here.

Hopefully in my lifetime I'll see the Bears draft a WR who goes on to break all our franchise records and spends his entire career with the team. Our own Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, etc.
