That's unexpected.
I just can't imagine he's legitimately here to compete with Siemian.
I guess he's fallen to the point that he's willing to come in and compete to be the 3rd string PS QB.
And Willis and Plitt underwhelmed at rookie camp, maybe.

Gross. Is there some benefit to having an experienced camp body?

I'd rather have just about any UDFA or some guy off a USFL roster.
But okay.

I'm with you. You have to have extra camp arms. Pfffffffft.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Yeah it’s barely news but weird you couldn’t have gotten someone more intriguing to give Semian competition.

Fake news!!! He got benched because he only had 6 completions in the half, not that he had 6 interceptions. He ONLY had 5 of those.

Is that 6 completions to his own team or 6 completions, counting the 5 to the other team?Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 8:41 am

An extremely low percentage of his passes hit the ground. Out of 14 passes 11 ended up in the hands is someone - 6 to teammates and 5 to guys on the other team.Moriarty wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 10:04 amIs that 6 completions to his own team or 6 completions, counting the 5 to the other team?Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 8:41 am

I hate this guy and hate this move.
It’s like the Bears are purposely trying to collect the worst QB rosters in the NFL like rare Pokémon.
Why even have three QBs? The third guy just takes up space of a developing player. If and when your starter gets hurt you could easily find someone, literally anyone better than Peterson to act as an emergency back up.
We could have just kept Foles as our third QB, had him ride the pine and throw to the practice squad bodies with the upside that if another NFL team got really desperate for a QB he’d probably be one of the best ones available to trade for someone later.

This is what the move tells me. Poles and Flus are 100% all in on Fields. They've seen him in OTA's and are all on board with his skill set.BearsFanInMN wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 11:28 pmYeah it’s barely news but weird you couldn’t have gotten someone more intriguing to give Semian competition.

My bet is that this is for a camp arm and maybe practice squad QB. I think that Getsy's offense probably needs an accurate arm to not only evaluate his offense but also to evaluate the receivers and RBs within it and the UDFAs weren't providing that accuracy. Looking at the five pick game, Peterman's accuracy wasn't that bad: one was off a deflection, three were when he was hit, and one was a bad pass. He also threw a couple of nice balls. In camp at least, he won't have to worry about being hit, so I think the Bears believe that his accuracy is such that he'll allow them to properly evaluate the offense and players.
Here's the Five Pick game:

This is one of my favorite NFL tropes. If you're a QB who's managed to play in a few actual NFL games, you are guaranteed a spot on an NFL roster for the next 12 years. Look at the QB depth charts of the 31 other teams in the NFL and there's almost 100% guaranteed to be one guy who a., you absolutely never want to see take a snap in an NFL game ever again, and b., has a few starts under his belt.
Matt Barkley, Joe Flacco, Joshua Dobbs, Bryan Hoyer, Mason Rudolph, Jeff Driskell, Blaine Gabbert, Sean Mannion, Josh Johnson etc... There's a place in the nfl for all of these guys apparently and I pray I never have to watch them play football ever again. (except for matt barkley, he just needs a coach who believes in him!)

Here's how I see this. Is Peterman a future piece? No. However, he's a good enough practice player to look like he could be a starter. Better practice reps for this WR group that needs all the help it can get. One year rental. Room to bring in development guy next year.

But I wouldn't hire Peterman to be an assistant equipment manager.

Every team in the NFL brings 3 or 4 QBs to camp. Peterman is a QB who knows something about the schemes Getsy plan to run so it's possible he's just more efficient as a camp arm and potential PS guy than anyone else we had on the roster. He's body with an arm.
