Pair him with Velus as a gunner and you may have something.

Dane Brugler's fourth-rated punter. That's all I've got.
Don't draft kickers.

I've heard that opinion before and you are entitled to it, but I think a blanket prohibition on ever drafting a kicker is awfully extreme.thunderspirit wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 5:04 pm Dane Brugler's fourth-rated punter. That's all I've got.

It don't bother me one bit to draft a kicker with your very last pick out of a dozen players so long as the kid turns out to be a great punter, stays healthy and sticks around for a decade.
Just my takeaway.

They don't usually last for a decade (although some below are too new to have the chance yet), but they are a vastly better bet than kickers.pus wrote: ↑Sun May 01, 2022 9:20 pmI've heard that opinion before and you are entitled to it, but I think a blanket prohibition on ever drafting a kicker is awfully extreme.

We've had posts about how rarely drafted kickers actually stick with the team that selected them. But for punters (drafted 2007-2018):
5 12 149 Michael Dickson Seahawks Texas 4 4
5 35 172 JK Scott Packers Alabama 3 3
5 36 173 Johnny Townsend Raiders Florida 1 1
7 29 247 Logan Cooke Jaguars Mississippi State 4 4
6 4 179 Drew Kaser Chargers Texas A&M 2 1
7 7 228 Riley Dixon Broncos Syracuse 6 2
7 14 235 Lac Edwards Jets Sam Houston State 5 4
5 29 165 Bradley Pinion 49ers Clemson 7 4
6 15 191 Pat O'Donnell Bears Miami (FL) 8 8
5 22 155 Jeff Locke Vikings UCLA 4 4
5 32 165 Sam Martin Lions Appalachian State 9 7
3 7 70 Bryan Anger Jaguars California 10 4
6 37 207 Brad Nortman Panthers Wisconsin 6 4
5 19 150 Zoltan Mesko Patriots Michigan 3.5 3
6 3 172 Brent Bowden Buccaneers Virginia Tech 0 0
7 14 221 Matt Dodge Giants East Carolina 1 1
5 6 142 Kevin Huber Bengals Cincinnati 13 13
5 28 164 Thomas Morstead Saints Southern Methodist 13 12
7 13 222 Pat McAfee Colts West Virginia 8 8
6 2 168 Durant Brooks Redskins Georgia Tech 0.5 0.5
4 2 101 Adam Podlesh Jaguars Maryland 7 4
4 13 112 Daniel Sepulveda Steelers Baylor 3.5 3.5
7 15 225 Brandon Fields Dolphins Michigan State 8 8
21/23 (91%) are at least a full season starter for the drafting team
14/23 (61%) start their entire rookie season contract
Granted, punters aren't generally huge contributors, but most other positions in rounds 5-7 don't even make the 53 man roster at a those kind of rates (91/61)

I don't have anything against drafting a punter in the 7th as a compensatory pick. His punting style seems odd. No hangtime, very direct. Maybe that's the way of the future? I dunno.

This feels like a throwaway pick, but it's whatever. Weatherford is a vet and "should" win the job.

I'm disappointed they had a need, spent a pick, and only got what's roughly considered the 4th best P in the draft.
But, the incumbent (Winslow) has been on 4 teams for a total of 6 games in 3 years and is pretty bad. I'll definitely bet Gill over him.

Normally I'd say don't draft a punter unless the kid is terrific in college because he more typically won't be that good in the NFL. But with a pick that was what, 5 picks away from Mr. Irrelevant? Sure. Why not. We needed more than one in camp anyway.

Only allowed to draft specialists if its after your 10th pick and within the last 20 picks of draft.
I'll allow this.

I wonder if the latter might be somewhat lost on our American cousins.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 2:11 amUberpunt or Punty McPuntfacesouthdakbearfan wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:29 pm Well, we had megapunt. What will this guys nickname be?
