At the beginning of March, I was pining for Gordon to fall out of the 1st so we'd have a chance. Then he ran a tad slow at the combine and I kept seeing him in most of my sims reaching us.
Now it's reality and I hope he helps lock down his side of the field.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Poles said before the draft that they weren't going to let numbers on paper trump what they saw on tape. And here it is. Fantastic.

That's the way to play it.

The combine is one day.

Yet it's treated as some kind of Be All End All cattle auction.

What the hell does the cone drill have to do with a LBs likelihood of making the stop on 3rd and 2?

I'd rather watch hours of film and interview the player.

I think both approaches have merit.

Poles explicitly said he wouldn't make the mistake of letting paper trump his eyes (watching tape), and that the paper/measurables are really just useful for supporting what you already think/see.

Somewhat unexpected but with Logan Hall off the board I like how Poles pivoted to Gordon. No more Kindle Vildor at LCB.

I'm getting more of a Prince vibe. I can see him pulling up to camp on a purple motorcycle.

Watched some highlights and stuff. My thoughts.

PROS
  • makes plays on the ball at an elite level, whether it's going for a strip, laying a hit, or breaking on a pass
  • obnoxious defender, pesky, physical, crafty
  • confidence is through the roof
CONS
  • not a consistent tackler, got away with leg tackles in college
  • needs to work on getting his head around in coverage
Another instant starter. Not sure if he's elite, but he should be Very Good.

Good news. We have coaches who "get it". Find out where a guy best fits your scheme, keep him there, and coach him to become ever better. Was there ever much doubt that Gordon was drafted to play outside at LCB?

He should be on the outside until/unless he shows he can't (which would be a terrible botch for a high 2).

Now, what about Graham, though - is he moving from outside to inside? Young doesn't really seem like he's a long-term solution. Vildor doesn't seem like the solution to any question.

I'm still unsure as to why Vildor was given as much time at LCB as he was and Graham was ignored most of the year.

Based on his very limited 2021 stats he played well enough to at least earn a shot as a primary backup to Gordon in a zone scheme where his ball skills and tackling ability can be used more effectively. Graham had as many PD (4) in 4 games and 1 start as Vildor did in 17 games with 12 starts but Graham may not be the best guy to play as a Slot CB. IMHO that's where Vildor belongs competing with Young and Shelley for the starting and primary backup roles.

Young is a very good Slot CB but he's small (177lbs) and missed most or all of the 2019-2020 seasons due to injury so we need depth behind him if he can't stay healthy over a 17 game season. We also have Hicks and some UDFA to compete for the Slot CB and Dime DB positions so anyway we look at it this secondary is a major upgrade from the 2021 version.

Normal human beings can't do shit like that. He's special.

I'm telling you right now that he's Prince reincarnated as a football player. I'm gonna keep my eye on this one. The TD dances when does a pick six on Rodgers' punk ass is going to be glorious.

The dude even went to a college where purple was the main color. Then there's the ballet thing. He can dance.

IDK. Once he's got outside down, IF it turns out that they have another good outside and not such a good slot, I can see Gordon playing CB in base and moving to nickle in nickle to get the best 5 in the backfield. Might depend on the opponent.

Sweet. I'm glad to see that we can expect a video on Gordon from Kollmann. I like his work.

He has Gordon at #5. Gordon's segment starts at 1:20.
