Pennel back, Attaochu out
https://www.profootballrumors.com/2022/ ... -dt-pennel
No great significance, but seems odd.
I'm expecting a lot of DE spots, with them rotating so much.
And 1T seemed pretty set with Blackson and Tonga. Does this mean Tonga isn't working out in a 43?
Actual (minor) roster news on the DL

I think they wanted more competition with Tonga and Blackson plus Attaochu has always been a OLB in a 3-4 system and don't think he fit what they wanted to do. But it leave the cupboard rather bare on experience playing in the NFL for the 3rd LB spot. Attaochu at least had the "build" for the spot, everyone else we have is a bit undersized. I think we could be looking at the waiver wire to find someone else to come in and compete for that spot. Or Smith is still out there who i like a ton, but he appears to have fallen off a cliff as far as his performance.

Pennel is a weird one to bring in... he has played in a 3-4 most of his career.

I can’t figure out why we haven’t signed OGun yet unless it’s a burned bridge from OGuns perspective. It just makes too much sense:
- We have the 3rd most cap space in the NFL right now
- No team has the cap space to do a big deal like he wanted so he’s looking at a one year prove it scenario
- He should be looking to go to a defense that features a 3T
- We obviously like him as a player as we almost signed him once
- He’d certainly start and have a great chance to earn a big deal.
Where is he going to go that would be better than here at this point? Maybe one more year in Cincy?

Ogun be waiting for training camps to see who needs him. Suh is available. He’s 35 but still playing every game. Not sure I’d like to see him on the Bears.
[Where are my old Chicago Bears and what have you done with them, Ryan Poles?

Lot's of obstacles - health, snaps, $ amt
He may not be healthy yet
You've already given Jones 6M (and possibly promised the starter job?)
Ogun's leverage has gone way, way down. But he may be thinking - hey, I was worth 15 to you when you thought I was healthy. Well, I'm healthy now, gimmie my 15. Which isn't happening. Market has dried up and Jones has been paid.

He's also 31.
1. Why?
2. Why now?
If they just needed a fat guy to stand there while some rookie tries to push him, why not find a 25 year old who played some 4-3 at some point?
With the Attachou move the Bears now have the 3rd most cap space in the league. Are they gonna sign any actual players at some point?

Getsy is familiar with him I guess. Maybe he liked what he saw when his OL was going up against him? He was also in KC for a cup of coffee so I'm sure Poles is familiar enough with him too.
Seems weird though. I don't think he's a candidate for the final roster.

Attaochu was a union rep, right?
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.
Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

Yes there is the theory that he tattled and they fired him in retaliation but that would be extremely bad so I'm assuming it didn't happen

I think Ryan Poles understands that, in reality, any dues-paying member of the NFLPA could have "tattled", and the outcome would be exactly the same. Which means anyone on the roster could be the "tattler," if there actually is such a person.
It does make sense for the NFLPA to have their own observers. This helps to take the burden of monitoring and reporting off of the players, which ought be a good thing for everybody.
I doubt that we fans are going to learn shit about this and IMO its a non-issue.

There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

Unless the report is a lie, this has already been debunked. NFL sends observers in (this I know for a fact to be true), and an observer issued a warning and then the league asked for video AFTER the warning to see if they corrected it.

That explanation works for me, dp. I guess people can always speculate but I don't see any constructive discussion beyond your point..

Why Pennel? Flus talked all about his plans to keep his DL in a constant rotation. We were (and still are IMHO) thin at DT. Pennel is a run stuffer who can control a gap and help keep OL off the LB. He's the vet Yang to Tonga's less experienced Yin. Unless Poles can add more depth behind Jones I can see Blackson be in lined up as a 3Tech at times as well.
