He could absolutely still be a bust.

His Rookie Season was terrible. And this year isn't much better.

Bust is absolutely still on the table. I know we'd prefer it wasn't - but thats wishful thinking
No - you're mistaken. You just dismiss context, and have no concept of recency and other adjustments that better reflect reality than the tired outdated examples you use to make your case. The scoreboard is a lagging indicator. The drives game after game and increasingly successful passing game with lesser weapons are a powerful leading indicator.

I'll also remind you that you can never really be "right" in any notable way about predicting a first round QB doesn't become a franchise player. It isn't a special enough prediction to be right about. It's like predicting it will snow in December in Michigan - overwhelmingly likely. Nice try though.
Ok then

I’m incredibly impressed with Fields mental strength.

That’s a special quality which only the elite sporting heroes possess. You can’t teach it, like you can teach a playbook and footwork and throwing mechanics.

He’ll get through these tough times and he’ll be a top 3 quarterback as a result.
It’s not about this season’s numbers, it’s a long term process.

The Velus Jones Punt Returner experiment needs to be ended. He isn't calm enough and seems over excited. Thus he makes mistakes and then repeats that mistake. Bad decisions leads to turn overs. He does run a nice Jet Sweep, but that only works once a game, maybe twice.
A new Era begins in the NFC North!

Sadly, it does not involve the Bears.... :frustrated:

If Teven Jenkins fumbled two punts he'd be benched for life and had his jersey burned in a fire pit. VJJ probably keeps his role, because the coaches only hold one player on this roster to a performance standard.

Great.

So we have a Cordarrelle Patterson that has no value on special teams.

Of all the things to be grimly, truth-twistingly bitter about, I'm surprised that this one isn't way down the list. D'ya think Jenkins feels the same way?

Jenkins's rookie season was a wash, and he started the preseason rehabbing a significant chronic injury. To this coaching staff, he's all but a rookie...and possibly a rookie who's still got a lot to learn about handling his business, if roughly everyone else who's coached him can be believed.

Patrick needed snaps, and he was only going to get them at center or guard. Call it what you will--I'd call it a mistake myself--but Eberflus apparently wanted to give his appointed starters a certain amount of time at their positions, injuries notwithstanding. That left two established veterans and an effective rookie who'd missed a chunk of the offseason and remained a bit of a cipher. No matter what the coaches think of Jenkins, Patrick was going to platoon with him. Even now, Patrick's officially listed as the backup to Jenkins and Mustipher. No double standard necessarily applies.

Deep breathes here.

It's probably a good thing they made Jenkins earn his spot. Just saying....

This too.

I think the OL would have been better if no Whitehair/Patrick injuries - but Poles also knew he was rolling the dice with a lack of depth at the position

For 3 weeks in a row now he's been driving the field and putting the team in a position to score most of the game WHILE learning & with a recognized lack of support. He's an effing stud.
I agree he is a stud, but maybe not a QB. Again, I think he could be a terrific WR. Not going to happen I know.

The Washington Commanders will be without quarterback Carson Wentz for quite some time after he suffered a broken ring finger on his throwing hand that requires surgery.

Wentz’s recovery time is expected to be around 4 to 6 weeks, NFL Network reports. He will have surgery later Monday after meeting with a hand specialist in Los Angeles.

While Wentz has a recovery timetable, designating him to the injured reserve hasn’t been made yet by the Commanders.

My wife would have easily won this week with a score of 50, but she doesn't post here (and I don't encourage her because her thoughts on Fields, from his college days on, would not go over well here).

Man! I finally rewatched the game and we got fucked. I was too blind with the work day and the late drinking on Thursday night. Pettis was interfered with (I wanted to use the R word) to the fullest. Yes there were missed opportunities but we came back to win and got screwed. 1st and goal at the 1.

Agree it was blatant interference. I maintain that after Fields 40 yard scramble, he threw not one but two game winners on 3rd and 4th down - he did his job on those plays IMO.

*came back to tie.

But missed opportunities for both teams. Speaking of catches Dplank's 4 year old should have made:

Cartman wrote: Fri Oct 14, 2022 11:35 am I got a lot of crap from folks on this board when I said, prior to the season, the team was going to suck. This isn't an "I told you so" post. It's a, "Why get so upset" post. I said they did nothing to improve the o-line and that they were worse off this year than last. And they are. I said it was odd to me that they traded up to get Fields, gave up a 1st round pick in the process, but spent their first two picks in the 2022 draft on defense and not protecting Fields. Yesterday, the offensive linemen were getting driven into Fields. They were manhandled. Fields would go down, not because a Commander got to him, but because a Commander pushed a Bears offensive lineman into Fields. The team is a joke.

I watched the entire game and never once got mad. There's a point where fandom needs to end and commonsense needs to take over. There is nothing on the team worth getting excited over. They've got no elite offensive weapons. They can't protect the QB. And their QB is subpar (which is putting it mildly).

Why get all bent out of shape when they lose? It's a foregone conclusion. The team isn't built to be competitive. Right now, ownership seems more interested in building a new stadium than putting together a competitive team. It is what it is. I'll watch them still. But I have no expectations other than that they'll lose week in and week out. I guess I don't understand why, at this point, anyone would allow themselves to get upset/angry/disappointed when the Bears lose. It's not worth the stress.
I think one of the primary reasons I've been mad about the loses is that for the most part we've been in the game. Especially Minny and Washington. In both of those games we had the ball as the game was ending and had a shot. Just needed one good drive. Then it gets ripped away in horrific fashion.

I agree we are likely on the low end of the overall talent pool of NFL teams. So if we lined up against a team clearly better than us and they destroyed and we were never in the game, I tend to not get upset or emotional. But losing to scrum teams like Washington, especially in the manner we did, is just a gut punch.

I 100% believe that Trevor is going to look better, and then everyone is going to accuse Getsy of suddenly running a different offense. "Why dont that run that offense with Fields?!?!?"

Making excuses for QB's is a disease we've all been dealing with for decades.
