Crazy Houston Trade Offer hypothetical

A highlight video? Seriously?Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 5:47 pm I believe Fields is a stud passer he just hasn’t had the opportunity to show it. He will when the circumstances allow it
He has a phenomenal arm, better than anyone in the draft by far.
Not so much this season, but last season he threw some incredible balls.
Take a look at his rookie highlights reel.
You’re telling me he can’t process quickly?
You’re telling me he can’t pass from the pocket?
You’re telling me he has accuracy issues?
Get out of here! Watch the video!
This kid can do it ALL he just needs the opportunity.
Texans would offer that trade because everyone knows he’s the best QB prospect in the NFC BY FAR!
If I showed a lowlight video. Would you be convinced he is awful? No, you wouldn't.

I don’t think anyone talked about Fields mobility when he came out. Don’t think it was him and Lawrence as 1 & 2 for all those years due to insane rushing in college. He has stuff to work in as a passer but prolific rushing wasn’t in his profile that I can remember. Think it’s hard to say he’s not a passer when he has 2 seconds to throw. If he has protection and weapons and he’s not showing anything then it’s fair game.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 5:47 pm I believe Fields is a stud passer he just hasn’t had the opportunity to show it. The video shows multiple examples of his passing ability.
Quick passes, pocket passes, pin-point accurate passes.
There are no other videos of him in the NFL which shows multiple examples of his passing ability.

I also don't think you should scout via Highlight videos either in fairness.

Here is a comparison between Young (who pundits are now claiming is a significantly better passer than Fields) and Fields which shows pretty similar stats and Fields actually comparing favorably in a number of categories.Richie wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 10:48 pmA highlight video? Justin Fields was a pocket passer in college that ran for more yards this season than he did in his entire college career, and in doing so almost single-handedly allowed the Bears to compete in games despite having almost no starting caliber NFL players around him.
Fields has some things to work on but it’s all fixable. E.g. shortening up his steps on quick screen passes.
But the incredible throws he’s made in the rare instances he’s actually been given time and his ability to make chicken salad of you know what when this garbage offensive line failed to properly pass block should inspire a lot of optimism.
If Poles is a good GM and can rebuild the offensive line into an above average or maybe even just average pass blocking unit that should provide the opportunity for tremendous growth for Fields as a passer.

College Stats mean very, very little in terms of yards and TD.
Tim Tebow as a Senior was at 67.8% completion percentage - just about the same as Fields
Fields did have a propensity - even with maybe the best WR group of all time - to hold the ball too long in college as well.

I completely agree. Always watch the vs. videos so you can see the good and the bad.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".
Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

There is more than completion percentage if you click on the graphic on the tweet.RichH55 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 11:08 am College Stats mean very, very little in terms of yards and TD.

Fields did have a propensity - even with maybe the best WR group of all time - to hold the ball too long in college as well.
And all you can compare between a college prospect people are advocating drafting is the college production of your current guy.
And Fields did hold the ball too long at times but the majority of college Quarterbacks do that because college open is different than NFL open.
Fields has demonstrably improved this season from last despite having less talent around him this year which is another encouraging sign.

But if I’m trying to demonstrate that a player has a certain set of skills why would I use a video which doesn’t show those skills?Mikefive wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 12:36 pmC'mon man. You're better than that.
It’s a ‘highlight’ video but I’m not using it to say “Justin Fields always plays at this level”, I’m using it to say “Even in less than favourable NFL conditions (his Rookie season with Nagy) he can still make those passes we all want to see”.
He has the skill set and I used a “highlight” video to highlight that fact. If you can’t accept that as evidence and you can’t accept stats as evidence then there is no mileage in even debating it.
You see what you want, you’re not changing your mind - I see where it’s going *shrugs*
It’s a rookie highlight video under Nagy - I think that’s worth something.

The thing is...that hypothetical is the Texans basically offering four first round picks. You could trade down like crazy with that haul, and still end up with Young. And draft someone else for insurance later.
Really...my first choice, too. We got Fields. let's keep him.
Houston ain't making that offer anyway. Well, it is Houston, so you never know...but odds are it's just a fun hypothetical to discuss on a forum.
My mother's love was inexplicably linked to kickball.

Typical Chicago Bears Fan.
We FINALLY get a true superstar QB and we're trying to trade him away.
NO!
