I'm with @RustinFields on this one - While I agree that the system should be improved via the use of booth decisions and technology, the nature of the subjectivity of these calls means that I think you're going to have problems no matter what system you have. It certainly doesn't seem to be hurting the NFL's viewership, and we've had plenty of other championship altering calls in recent years (the egregious non-PI call in the Saints-Rams NFCCG in 2019 comes to mind).

And that's all I'm saying. It's not that the current system doesnt suck, I just dont think that an army of sky judges (and it has to be an army, because there's an array of camera angles to review) making subjective calls isnt the solution people think it is.
I dont know what the answer is, and I'm glad it's not my job to come up with one, because i'd die penniless.

I think replays have ruined the game, not the actual replay rule. Back in the early to mid 70s, you didn't get the # of replays you get now. Replays have made everyone question the call. The D Smith catch/no catch, in live action it looked like a helluva catch. Present day NFL, 50 camera angles and they finally got one that showed incomplete. In the 70s there likely would not have been but one replay and everyone would have thought it was a catch. If you are going to have all these angles, use them what the hell. Instead of going overboard on replays, cut down on them, eff it.
And for one to say the unsportsmanlike penalty was minor, what the hell? It is an obvious rules, really a black and white rule. Mahomes was clearly 2-3 steps out of bounds, you can't shove a guy when he is there. It was a dumbass play by the Bengal.

They've basically neutered the refs ability to referee. The production value of the game has gone up exponentially and the level of refereeing has stayed the same.

The Bears seem to be good at that. They told Joe Montana they were going to take him in the 3rd round and didn't.The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:04 pmMahomes would be a backup like Mitch if he got McNagied early on in his career.
