I vacillate on Watson pretty much daily. Lord knows he wasnt ever in a very stable situation either, and he definitely has more tools in his shed than Mitch does. Perhaps if he spent X amount of time LESS on the extra curriculars...

Yea I get it - the dude didn't play for over a year so I just don't know about him going forward as he clearly has issues. But he was a great player his first few years, and if I just isolate the discussion to that 2018 season only - I think Watson would have won us a Super Bowl. Watson threw for over 4100 yards that year, 26 TD's to 9 INT's, and had a QBR of over 103.

His 2020 year was insane (and that happened AFTER they traded away D Hopkins!) He threw for over 4800 yards (led the league), 33 TD's to 7 INT's, and had a QBR over 112! That was his last full season, I'm real curious to see how he looks next year.

I see the troll posted here, I assume he's degrading him because he got pantsed so bad on that 2020 season bet. He predicted he'd suck without Hopkins in 2020 then he went out and put up Aaron Rodgers numbers and Rich still couldn't admit he was wrong lol...

I can buy that our 2018 team with more consistent offensive output could have easily gone all the way. And I also believe that Deshaun could have provided that output.

I think with a kicker they could have.

He wasn't great

He actually was worse record wise than like Brian Hoyer - the Texans had a good good Defense his first few years

And he lost a playoff game when he was gifted a multiple TD lead (special teams and defense)

Even in his best statistical year - they didn't score many points (even less so in the 1st half of games)

Just never elite

This year even worse without his Sexual Assault spinach

There is an enormous gap between "just never elite" and Mitch Trubisky. With Watson the Bears win that Super Bowl in 2018.

It was the token Mitch "good" year though - Mostly running that wasn't sustainable - and a Defense with a turnover rate that was unsustainable

Watson didn't win when he had Hopkins and a good Defense - and pretty good offensive coaching (Bill OBrien the GM was awful - but he was not a bad offensive coach)

The year before Watson got there they went 9-7 - And that's with Brock Osweiler and Tom "Macho Man" Savage playing QB

The year before that they went 9-7 - Granted they had the IMMORTAL Brian Hoyer playing QB

Watson got there 4-12

Playoff game - gifted 21-0 lead. Lost by a decent margin

There is no real evidence that Watson would have led us to the Super Bowl

The greatest thing he ever did for a team was the trade compensation (after making them a national disgrave)

We don't hear much talk about Cade or Rexy any more, so your time will come.

Steelers agree to two-year extension with backup QB Mitchell Trubisky
...

The Steelers are finalizing a two-year extension with Mitchell Trubisky, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, per a source. The deal places Trubisky under team control through the 2025 season while lowering his 2023 cap number, which previously stood at $10 million, per Rapoport.
...

It's clear now that Pickett is Pittsburgh's quarterback of the future. Trubisky isn't sticking around to compete for the starting job, but as the football world has learned on a number of occasions over the last decade, the backup quarterback remains a highly important member of the team and to its chances of success.

"We feel good about our quarterback room," Steelers general manager Omar Khan said told The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday. "That was an important piece. We've got, obviously Kenny Pickett is our starter. We feel really good about Mitch Trubisky in the role that he's in. He feels good about it."

The Steelers have seen enough from Trubisky to keep the former No. 2 overall pick on the roster beyond 2023 -- and give themselves some immediate cap flexibility.

The Steelers have cut ex-Bear Anthony Miller.

The Steelers have signed ex-Bear Nick Kwiatkoski.

What a disappointing career for Miller. I really missed on that guy.

He seemed to have it, and then not have it all at the same time. Then shoulders made of glass kicked in.

MT looked bad today. Throwing into triple coverage..........man. I guess he is making a good living by being a bad QB.

It’s my only retort to my Steelers friends from back home. We gave you Mitch, you gave us Claypool. Let’s not swap players anymore.

The Steelers have cut Trubisky.

As Jason Lieser of the Sun Times put it "While Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes looks for his fourth championship, former Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky is looking for his fourth team."

Shocked it took this long. The guy just does not have it. Marginal backup at best.

I mean, he's objectively better than Nathan Peterman, so yeah, probably.

That tells you how bad the QB situation is if Peterman and Trubs can still get backup jobs.

With Arthur Smith as the Steelers OC, it is believed they will look at Ryan Tannehill at QB. He is a UFA and was coached by Smith at Tennessee.

Tannehill would certainly be....a choice. He's heading towards 36 and hasn't been all that great since 2019.

Unless the Steelers also sign Derrick Henry.

Trubisky's heading back to Buffalo. They clearly like him backing up Allen.
