I kept waiting and waiting for someone to bring this up and you have all failed me, yet again.
It's an idea that's been bouncing around in my head the last few days. He is still an EXCEPTIONAL CB and is only 28 years old. A backfield of Ramsey/Johnson/Gordon/Brisker/Ejax(?) could be really special, and no matter what happens, the bar for the DL's play has been set so low that we're bound to see improvement this year with whatever upgrades we throw at it. I know some people probably dont like Ramsey as a person, but he has ALWAYS backed that up on the field. (And I had to read through multiple people bringing up Taylor Lewan, who's an absolute shithead off the field.)
I think the chances of this happening are pretty slim, because this defense's forte seems to be developing secondary players, but still the idea persists in my noggin so i'm throwing it out into the world.
Jalen Ramsey on the trade block

He's a heck of a player.
He's got 3 yrs on a contract that would be only slightly cheap (the part a new team would pay).
And that's the thing for me - trading for a useful player on a cheap contract makes sense.
Giving draft capital for the right to pay market price or relatively close to it just doesn't make sense to me.
Plus - for the little bit under market you're getting - the Bears have more cap space to spare than draft capital, anyway.
So, in summary - kind of tempted, but thinking it's probably not smart.

It's hard to believe he's still only 28.

I don't know that we need high priced "man cover" DB's, I'd rather spend big $$ on the DL

It's a reluctant pass.
The DL is a priority and then what does he cost in a trade?

Yeah, it would really boil down to what the Rams actually think they can get for him. They're in cap hell, everyone knows he's probably getting dealt, for a third? I'd do it even understanding it's a bit of an overpay. If the Bears are going to take advantage of the back half of Fields' rookie contract they're gonna have to overpay a few dudes, and there's way worse we could do then Ramsey.Moriarty wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 11:47 am He's a heck of a player.

For better than a third rounder, that'd be a tough pill to swallow with the holes on this roster.

No doubt, but also Carter or Anderson, Justin Jones, Trevis Gipson/DomRob and a free agency upgrade over AQM (which will not be hard) is a really good start. And with that back 5 I'd see it as a huge upgrade.
I think I Iike Justin Jones better than most here, though.

From a cap perspective we can walk and chew gum. My concern wasn’t the cap, but rather the draft pick cost.

I don't think I would, but I thought I'd throw it out there. IMO the secondary isn't a problem.

The Rams are supposedly rethinking their philosophy of giving up all their high draft picks for vets and are looking to build up draft stock. But a 1st or two 2nds is too much even though he's talented. I could see a 3rd, that's it.
[Where are my old Chicago Bears and what have you done with them, Ryan Poles?

If the Bears trade down and get a few extra high round picks, then it may be worth taking a hit on draft capital for a proven vet.
Kinda like the trade for Claypool
DB depth would be nice to have.

San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

For a 2nd - I think you'd have to do it
Ramsey does seem like he has a bit of a Jim Harbaugh type effect
He is a leader/ an alpha - but it has a 3-4 year life cycle before its more grating than leadership

I liked this idea before i was JSN pilled. Drafting a WR high makes trading a pick for a CB (even one as good as Ramsey) seem like a HUGE luxury we probably cant afford yet. Not while fixing both lines.

I don't think its a luxury if you are trying to winRustinFields wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 2:06 pm I liked this idea before i was JSN pilled. Drafting a WR high makes trading a pick for a CB (even one as good as Ramsey) seem like a HUGE luxury we probably cant afford yet. Not while fixing both lines.
Ramsey will be on the field - assuming health - for every defensive snap

Yea I’m not buying into a 30 year rebuild plan. Last year was the pain, now it’s time to win. Playoffs this year, Super Bowl next year

I agree with this. OL/WR/TE/DL should be the focus this offseason. I'll also admit I am pretty happy with the Bears secondary for this coming year. I think they are a talented young group and with a good DL would be absolutely fine. If I have a worry in the secondary it's not at CB it would be the health of Eddie Jackson.RustinFields wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 2:06 pm I liked this idea before i was JSN pilled.
