Yeah I’m not that far off.wab wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 2:36 pmEh, the Bears have 10 picks. 4 of those are in the first 3 rounds. (6 before round 5).The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 2:10 pm
See and that’s the argument I have about the draft picks.
People start rationalizing about oh well Poles has this many picks.
Ok fine, how many are the fifth round and below? At least half.
We don’t have the draft capital that we think we do. UNLESS Poles finds a taker for 9 that pays for it.
Explain the Skoronski love to me please

Haters gonna hate - he only took 1 10 Year Left Tackle after Round 4?dplank wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 1:59 pmYea, agree. He took 4 OL and hit on one of them. I would not be counting on him magically finding rookie starters in the late rounds of the draft.thunderspirit wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 1:21 pm
I don't know how anyone can say this based on just one draft.
It may well turn out to be right. I'm just not ready to jump to that conclusion.
What a monster

Truth hurts man - Give some benefit of the doubt
Stop doing the "I criticize slightly JUST ONE Thing" routine when "One thing" is up to like 25 things now.
Criticizing him for "ONLY" getting a potential decade long starter at - checks notes - LEFT TACKLE with later round picks in 1 year of drafting here (since we can't give him the credit for when his previous team ALSO found good starters late)
That's something for a poster to say
Not something good - but something!

You can just post better - it is allowed.
We don't have to call every potential iffy move as a DISASTER before the ink is dry
Or suggest not getting Bates was a big whiff and indicative of someone who just doesn't get it.

Leaving me alone is also allowed, and something darn near every poster on this board has asked you to do. Be a better human and move on, we aren't going to be friends. Internet stalking is creepy AF.

I think your cutoff for declaring picks worthless should be 6th. There are still good players that teams have scouted in-depth who are available in the 5th.
https://overthecap.com/proven-performance-escalator
You see that across the past couple of years there are about 6 players drafted in the 5th that received significant snaps. Look at Bears drafted late
OLB Trevis Gipson (5th round, pick 155)
CB Kindle Vildor (5th round, pick 163)
WR Darnell Mooney (5th round, pick 173)
Round 5, pick 151: Larry Borom, OT, Missouri
Round 6, pick 217: Khalil Herbert, RB, Virginia Tech
Round 5, pick 168 BRAXTON JONES OT SOUTHERN UTAH
Round 5, pick 174 DOMINIQUE ROBINSON DE MIAMI (OH)
No 7th round winners, sure, but 5th round picks can still be useful players.

Yea, he might. I’m being a bit facetious here. I just really didn’t like what I saw last year, I like to see guys flash something if they get extended playing time as a rookie and he didn’t IMO. He’s a good athlete so maybe he figures it out, I’m not betting on that outcome tho

Last year he did about what I figure a guy who played QB in high school, WR for 2 years in college and then moved to DE before getting drafted. Very little. He was a 5th round pick taken on the potential he might have. It's up to the team to bring A LOT more of that out of him this year. If not he will likely not be with us in '24.dplank wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2023 4:47 pm Yea, he might. I’m being a bit facetious here. We don't know that actually - but guessing got an adult beverage in you so you can be chesty about Poles making a mistake.
But yes - writing off a 5th Round project after one year - Not exactly the height of reasonableness
If its a guy you liked - or a non-Poles guy - have to give them 3 years no question and surround them with only the best talent and same system or it doesn't count

Really? Who...exactly?
I think a lot of people would be okay with the dude at #9, just haven't seen members really pounding the table for him...
My mother's love was inexplicably linked to kickball.

He's got a decent contingent of fans here, I think.
And he does usually have a small plurality as the "Expert's Pick" for the Bears

This one has Paris edging Skoronski 4-3, but I feel like I've seen more Skoronski elsewhere

Credit for potential can only go so far. It's the Ballard problem. Fans media will grade on potential with a fill in the blank idea. Particularly for merely getting picks.
Think I'll start calling this kind of GMing astrology GM grades. There's enough there to fill in the blanks and make it sound great to suit your needs/views.

Agreed in the general sense. But the one year of data we have on Poles - pretty good. The Cooler King wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 5:15 pmCredit for potential can only go so far. It's the Ballard problem. If he drafts Shea McClellin's cousin at 9 - well then there you go.
But so far its trending in the right direction I'd say
