It's probably something minor, but Wilson just had some foot surgery procedure that cancelled his pro day appearance.

If the Bears talk enough to Carter and are convinced they can turn him around, would they take him?dplank wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:00 amWilson is the only one I can think of since there’s just no chance Anderson falls to 9.Grizzled wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:54 am Who are the guys which, if still available at #9, would absolutely cause Poles to run his choice up to the table? Are there any guys, if available, he wouldn't pull the trade-down I expect him to do. Maybe Tyree Wilson. Perhaps Jalen Carter if he answers their questions.
Where are my old Chicago Bears and what have you done with them, Ryan Poles?

I'm starting to think that Poles gets his double trade-down.
We need a long-term center and another piece on the O-line. Most of us are thinking that'll be RT, but we don't know what the brass knows, or how they see the situation. Maybe they're ready to put Jenkins back there. That leaves us with C and either LG or RT.
We also need a pass rush. I know who I'd take in a pinch at #9, but I also know that I don't think he's worth that pick. No one is, IMSO. It's easy to see a situation where Anderson is the only edge rusher to come off the board before us and all the OTs are left, and to me that's the right situation for a trade-down.
Who would drive teams to move up, though?
- Gonzalez seems clearly ahead of Witherspoon at CB, so he might be a target.
- Carter, maybe? Though anyone with even a strong bit of residual doubt about him might be hesitant to give up picks for the privilege.
- Trent Simpson might well be my favorite player at #9, but who's going to trade up for a LB?
- I hate Quentin Johnston's game and love JSN's. As it stands, though, I don't know if either of them is enough to cause a bidding war.
- It'd be hilarious if Levis slid to us and we got something like Washington's 2024 first-rounder and a couple of mid-rounders in return, just like the Fields trade.

I think trade down again with Steelers 17 and 32 or Seattle 20 and 37.
Then get JMS as long term C in the second round.
Leatherwood for RT

Because I want him in the division.

He had hardware removed that was installed after he hurt the foot last November against Kansas. He has been medically cleared by his foot, a renowned foot specialist.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Bears trade down to 12 or perhaps even lower, say 19 to Tampa. More picks this year and possibly another first in '24. Poles likes those picks and wants to build through the draft.

The gap between our pick at 9 and then to 53 is just too big for Poles to not address I think.
Dropping down another 10 to 19 could net us a 2nd this year.

The 9 overall has a points value of 1,350.
TB's 19 has a value of 875.
TB's 2nd, at 50 overall, has a value of 400 so they'd be a bit short.
But if we swapped our fourth at 133 with 39.5 points and they gave us a third, 82 overall, at 180 points we'd be right there for equal value.
So.....
Bears Receive
R1:19
R2:50
R3:82
TB Receive
R1:9
R4: 133
I'd do that.

Yeah, I'm sure Poles would like to trade down...but it's hard to say if he he feels he can risk that, or not.karhu wrote: ↑Sat Mar 25, 2023 1:38 pm I'm starting to think that Poles gets his double trade-down.

Carter and Levis are probably the two best possibilities for something like that. Maybe one of the receivers...

Spoon is CB1 no matter your personal opinion. I'd be pissed if Poles passed up on a FAR FAR better football player for measurables only.

What thunder said...plus, that's not my personal opinion. I might like Witherspoon better for the Bears, but I suspect that more teams prefer Gonzalez, and that they would be likelier to trade up for him. I rushed that point while sketching out a quick list, and wasn't as clear as I should've been.

I'd rather see them get a 2024 TB first if they drop that far. Really, it's going to be hard for them to get a pick in the 30s unless it's Houston at 12 or Pitt at 17 and the Bears get their Claypool pick back. The Bears would have to send back one of their 2nds also. Maybe the Jets at 13 and their 2nd at 42 for #9 and the lower 2nd round pick. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:38 am The 9 overall has a points value of 1,350.

7th overall versus 10th overall. And Gonzalez's rating in 2021 was considerably better than Witherspoon's.
Plus, measurables fucking matter. That's not me saying that, it's the NFL.
