As part of Ryan Poles making the Carolina Panthers his unmitigated bitch we of course have the Panthers' first rounder next year.

ESPN is projecting this to be #10 overall. I think the pick is going to wind up higher than that, but I'm going with this for now.

Our regular first rounder was not projected to be in the top 10.

This takes us out of the running for Caleb Williams or Marvin Harrison Jr. However we'll be in a great place to get an impact player.

There's also a valid argument to be made about trading down from #10.

The '24 draft is already being talked about as having more top end talent. We can hope for a Panthers' disaster of a season and a really high pick. The Bears can certainly contribute to that by beating them in their match. But if the Panthers end up at about this pick, there's sone strong DE talent expected to be there.

Really?

I'm just starting to dip a toe in, but I'm sure not seeing that yet.
When I do sims, I scrape and reach to find anything to take with the Bears R1 picks.

Where do you have the Bears 2 picks?

The sims typically have 10 (Carolina) and 12-13 (Bears)

Just because I'm retired and a lazy cuss (although yard work's beckoning), I ran one on Pro Football Focus. They had Carolina with the 5th pick - the Cards 1 and 2, Colts 3, Titans 4. None picked one of the premium QBs. That would really put the Bears in the driver's seat for teams needing a QB (hopefully not the Bears).

Strange - I don't follow the college stuff like you guys, but I thought there was some "generational talent" (lol, no such thing) QB coming out this year?

Yeah, it's a big year for top QBs. No way there's none in the top 4. Just a flaw in the simulation.

2 QBs (Mayes from North Carolina and Caleb Williams from USC), WR (Marvin Harrison Jr. from Ohio State), and OT (Olumuyiwa Fashanu, Penn State) are all thought that if they had been in the 2023 draft, they would have been the first guys taken at their respective positions and probably in the entire draft. I also look at Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia as a pass catching machine who also would have been taken as the first TE in '23. The Bears will probably be looking at Jared Verse, DE, Florida State, maybe Dallas Turner, DE, Alabama or J.T. Tuimoloau, DE, Ohio State for edge. If Braxton doesn't cut it at LT, there are a couple of highly rated OTs who should be available. DT seems like a good amount of guys who might go in the 1st round. A few CBs to consider depending on the re-signing of JJ.

Caleb Williams.

If the Carolina pick is the #1 overall it's going to be The Mother Of All Wars around here that will make The Great Roquan Smith War Of 2022 look like a minor border incursion by comparison.
