Big fast long CB whose light came on just last year and earned a really good grade, after being a very poorly graded fellow his two previous years.
2023 Chicago Bears... emerging from a long hibernation, and hungry!

Basically a good 2018 and 2022, with three injury-riddled years in between.
He's worth a flyer. If he can stay healthy, he can be more than a depth player.

Like the player, love the pick.
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.
Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

A second press/off man corner with size and a physical style. Somewhat interesting for a team playing a Cover-2. In the past we've typically drafted a Safety on Day 3. Despite having played CB in college is he a better prospect at Safety? Maybe an Adrian Amos type?

If Smith becomes a poor man's version of this comp, it's a really good pick.

He's definitely one of those pocketknife DBs who is in a lot of different meetings and rotating between groups. Guy may not even have a set position this season beyond "safety in this package, corner in this package, special teams always."
"None of us are in the board room, locker room, or on the sideline, so in a way, we don't know shit."

Found this pick really startling and unexpected, too.
After getting Stevenson, they seemed awfully set at CB with Vildor, JJ2, Blackson as their backups.
Seems like an odd spend to hope for a minor upgrade over JJ2.
Maybe a switch to safety in the works (given how incredibly thin they are there)?
Some places predicted him undrafted, but some of the better ones did have R5 on him.

Vildor, Jaylon Jones and Blackson are hardly world-beaters. Nothing wrong with adding to the competition.
