Kind of what we expected…conservative with injuries to make sure we’re healthy for week 1

The we of you me and several others. Many, many normally rational people were running around exclaiming the sky is falling. Still are really.

Ok... so literally everyone except Jenkins is practicing today.

There were like 22 "injured" players a week ago.

I'm sorry if I missed it, and I've seen other folks ask the question - what happend with Kramer's hand or arm? Did he end up not being seriously injured because it looked otherwise.

The coach who says as little as possible makes it clear that it's uncertain.

Bears coach Matt Eberflus said the team feels good about where Brisker is in his recovery but that Wednesday’s padded practice figures to be the pivotal day for whether Brisker will be cleared for action Sept. 10.

“It’s just a wait-and-see (thing),” Eberflus said. “How does the rehab go this weekend? Because he’ll be doing something every day ... and we’ll see where it goes. Then when you get the pads on and start cracking and doing full-speed movements, we’ll see where it is.”

From the fan perspective, it's a self-flagellation practice to force ourselves to remain braced for the worst outcome possible. From a reporter's side, doom sells papers and gets clicks.

"Like I said last week, [Brisker] is right there," coach Matt Eberflus said. "He's progressing. Wednesday's going to be a big day for him, but it looks on the positive side right now. We're looking at that.

"He had really good workouts this weekend, as did Eddie (Jackson). We're looking at both those guys in a positive way and Wednesday will tell us more."

The only real uncertainty offensively, based on those who worked out Monday, was wide receiver Chase Claypool, with what has been reported as a hamstring injury.

I just can’t do it with the negativity and worrying about the historical idiocy of this franchise.

There’s a lot to be legit positive about.

1) Odds are JF1 is our QB of the future. Yeah sure he could fail. But so far so good and nothing that warrants the opportunity cost of moving on from him. I cannot justify the multiple first round picks and or cap space required to move on from him.

2) We have a GM with a brain. I have confidence in Poles. I believe in the guy. Yes I’m flummoxed that he didn’t get a quality DT in FA and I’m a tad annoyed the pick was Wright and not something with more flash. HOWEVER….I’m buying into the idea there’s a bigger plan so I’ve let those two issues go pretty much entirely. The trade down was genius. Last year’s draft was really good. This year’s draft looks very promising. Next year’s draft could be one for the ages. Next offseason, after we make the next step forward this season, we will still have something like $100M in cap space. Poles is not afraid of change. He doesn’t give a shit. I think if the defense sucks again then Williams is gone.

The people that are getting all negative can’t see past the last 30 years. Which yeah I get it there’s a lot of failure there but Fields doesn’t have anything to do with Mitch nor does Poles have anything to do with Pace and Emery.

Today is a new day. Enjoy it.

Bears RG Nate Davis misses practice for personal reason

The Bears’ dream of offensive line continuity has yet to become a reality. They had starters in and out throughout training camp, and coach Matt Eberflus held out hope for a productive week leading up to the season opener Sunday against the Packers, but they were patching it together again Thursday.

Enigmatic right guard Nate Davis was out this time, and that has been an ongoing concern with one of the team’s highest-paid players. Davis signed a three-year, $30 million deal, then didn’t attend the first two weeks of Organized Team Activities and missed significant time leading up to the season.

Davis was at Halas Hall and on the sideline during the part of practice open to the media, but the team listed “personal” as the reason he was out. The Bears said he practiced in full Wednesday.

General manager Ryan Poles said Davis’ absences in training camp were not solely due to injury, but rather “a combination of things.” He and coach Matt Eberflus seemed empathetic, but also frustrated.

“You do have to play football, you’ve gotta practice football, and he’s doing well now,” Poles said last week. “Knocking that rust off and getting going, that’s going to be the key thing.”

He better play lights out in most every game this year. I'm sick and tired of hearing about him missing practice. That might be doing him a disservice if he's got personal issues he's dealing with but of all the moves Poles has made this is looking the most dubious as of now.
