Leonard is owed over $6 million for the remainder of this season and is under contract through 2026. Any team claiming him would inherit that contract...
Matt Eberflus right now trying to decide exactly how much of our salary cap he can devote to linebackers before someone cuts his brake lines.

Would easily rather have Shaq Leonard at 60% what he used to be, than Velus Jones at 100% of his capabilities.

I think we should sign him and move him to guard.

This guy was a total beast, is he just completely damaged goods now? Like, forever?

76 total tackles in 12 games in Gus Bradley’s defense. Injuries limited his snap count as well. With 3.5 years left on his deal, probably not worth claiming, but he’ll be signed for the rest of this year for sure.

So I was checking his salary at Over the Cap and Spotrac and I couldn't get ti to upload for some reason. But I did find this:
https://coltswire.usatoday.com/2023/11/ ... alary-cap/
It looks like the Colts are eating the last of his guaranteed money. So he will have base salaries of $13, 14 and 19 million the next three years. If the piece is correct and there is nothing left to be on the hook for, does it make since to pick him up pay this year's salary and see if he is no longer damaged goods next year? If he can play like he did in the past so are reasonable numbers. If he can't and he can be let go with no cap hit, maybe it's worth the risk to pay him for this year.

Leonard's been in the league for more than 4 years so isn't subject to the waiver wire. If he's been cut doesn't that just make him a free agent with the Colts having to pay him the remainder of any guarantees remaining on his contract with them? Any team can sign him to a new contract for any amount.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Wed Nov 22, 2023 3:25 pm So I was checking his salary at Over the Cap and Spotrac and I couldn't get ti to upload for some reason. Only if he's traded would the remainder of his Colts contract transfer to his new team.
On Spotrac his Colts contract is listed under Career Earnings with only the remaining guarantees/cap hits the Colts have to absorb under "Contract Details" as a "Dead Contract". Presumably that's confirmation that he's been cut and is therefore now a free agent.

If they give money to ANOTHER linebacker, I will be angry. Very angry.
Just say no to paying linebackers and running backs!

Admittedly I haven't watched him this season but his base stats aren't too dissimilar to Edmunds'. So if he's damaged goods, oof!
"I wouldn't take him for a conditional 7th. His next contract will pay him more than he could possibly contribute.".
