Cuts: Whitehair, Eddie Jackson
Trade: Fields to Atlanta for 2nd and 2025 3rd

Cap Savings: 23 Million

Gonna leave about 17-20 million for Draft Class

Cap Left in 2023 - 51.8

Trade #1 Pick to Commanders for 1st (#2), 2nd, 1st 2025.

2025 Draft: 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 2 3rds, 4th, 5th, 2 6ths

Free Agency: Winfield S (AAV $16 Million), D Hunter or Burns (Burns is preference - Hunter is more likely) ($25 Million AAV)

Franchise JJ - $19

Technically that's like 9 million over the cap - but we will assume that Hunter and Winfield have slightly lower cap hits in 1st year of new deal - and We have even more open Cap Room in 2025 anyway

Draft-
#2 Daniels - QB LSU
#9 Nabers - WR LSU
2nd - Center. Powers-Johnson Oregon or Frazier West Virginia

2nd - This is the most open pick. If say the Toledo CB slides somehow to 2nd Round? I take him with first 2nd Round pick and this becomes the Center - but that seems unrealistic at best

So I'm taking the monster T'Vondre Sweat - DT Texas

(also debated Braswell DE Alabama)

3rd - Roman Wilson - WR Michigan
4th - Gabe Hall - DT Clemson
4th - Christian Jones - OT Texas
5th (trade down) -All - TE Iowa
6th - Javon Foster - OL (Think he played Tackle - I got him as a Guard) Missouri
7th - Laube - HB New Hampshire (6th Round next year to trade up)

I absolutely can't see drafting a DT this year at all.
There's a ton of DTs in FA and we just drafted 2 guys pretty high last year.

Imo, in a scenario like this, Drake Maye might be the pick. Didn’t have his best season, but seems to have elite traits

Love so much about this outside of the QB..for me, I lose interest in every scenario that doesn’t start with either Fields or Caleb Williams

Powers-Johnson may be moving into first round territory, so he may not be an option.

Like others I don't see that much draft capital being spent on DTs this year.

I'm so tore on who needs to be our QB next year.

it's a draft that would define Poles' career for sure. Gave up on Fields passed on the greatest QB prospect since the dawn of time and chose Daniels. He's either a genius or out of work in a few years.

I wonder if we need a superstar safety instead of a proper deal with JJ and more reliability from vets across the roster?

I like some of this, I just don't see the heavy DT investment. I get that Flus likes to rotate, but Walker played mostly DT towards the end of the season. I'd also rather they resign Greene to rotate inside rather than investing another pick there.

So you get a DL comprised of Sweat, Hunter (or whoever), Walker, Billings, Dexter, Pickens, Greene, and then probably one rookie at either DT or DE. Robinson is still hanging on, along with Kareem and Daniel Hardy.

Maybe bring back Justin Jones if you really feel compelled.

Also, on a slight nitpick, I think we're just shy of 26 mil in savings if we cut Whitehair and Jackson and trade Fields.

Okay, now for more explanation

Daniels in the top 3 is the QB option I like the least. Maybe I'm being unfair and this is somewhat reactionary to Fields issues, but he's by far the scariest in terms of projecting as a pocket passer. Yes, creating outside the pocket is valuable too, but you have to still be efficient in the pocket. He has the athleticism and the arm talent to wow you, but he's a big project to me, and it's not like he's that young either.

I don't love a big money splash at S either. Doubt he hits market anyways, so probably moot. Rest was fine.

This guy can be a bit much, but this thread is a decent overview of the Jayden Daniels issues. They're almost all things that show a lot of correlation from ncaa to pros. And even guys who you think are "outside structure" guys don't match his rates basically.

But he has a pretty arm and athleticism to wow.

Thank you

And yeah - if we pass on Caleb - in the word of Justin Timberlake its gonna be Maye

Fair takes as well - I think they will bring back Jones if hes not too expensive

And Hall's Day 2 here (watching my DVR) probably has me taking someone else

But that's kind of the thing on this roster. There is already some good depth - You borderline can't pick a LB in the draft either

Maye. Or I'd take MHJ at 2 and roll with Fields if Poles was somehow out on both. I'd consider Daniels if he dropped to 9, but doesn't look like he'll escape top 3 honestly.

We might just be talking on a bit different thing- I was specficially referring to 2024 Cap - not overall savings

Here's my math - feel free to check it (I think it's actually like 24.7 because I missed the Fields Roster Bonus that we wouldn't have to pay if we trade him before we have to pay that) - All Over the Cap

Fields 1.6 Base, 1.6 Roster

Whitehair - 10.1 Base, but accelerates about 1 million from 2025 into 2024

Eddie Jackson - 14 Million Base - but cutting him makes the 1.6 prorated in 2025 come into 2024

I'd prefer cash saving over cap, but fwiw

Cap savings of trading Fields (before training camp) and cutting EJ/Cody : 24.933M
Cash saved : 30.633M

According to the individual cutting tools on Spotrac:
Jackson nets us 12,560,000 (14,150,000 6/1)
Whitehair nets us 9,145,000 (10,248,000 6/1)
Fields trade nets 3,233,448

which nets us just shy of 25 (I remembered 26 and am totally blaming it on a typing mistake from my fat fingers)

I loved Lamar Jackson coming out of college…Daniel’s is not him. He’s gonna get folded up like a lawn chair in the NFL

Yep - and you might still be right on the overall savings - it's just spread between 2024 and 2025 Caps

My number was off by the Fields Roster Bonus (*)

(*) In Fairness you might still have to pay this depending on timing of trade

No qualms there - It basically becomes which QB do you like most in the draft after Caleb - And is the value enough for you

I think the Fields ship has sailed. He is simply about to get expensive

I’m starting to veer towards JJ McCarthy as the 2nd best QB prospect in the draft

Trade down, (Washington or NE), get a haul, take MHJ and then take McCarthy in the second.
Roll with Fields, McCarthy (sitting) and Bagent.

Give McCarthy a year to learn the Waldron offense.
Give Fields one last chance.
Get a damn C in the draft.
Load up on picks and players from the draft.

Ya, people don’t realize that it’s not Fields talent that drops his value when compared to this group of rookies…it’s the price.

Here’s where I’m at…

Caleb…

Drake

Daniels
JJ

Everyone else lol

I don’t know. He took some major hits and kept going. He’s a tough SOB. But he needs to learn how to get down when needed.
