What bullshit.
Releasing Eddie Jackson, by itself, should have garnered them an "A"...

Do we know when the article was originally written because they list Allen amongst the acquisitions but make no mention of him in the summary which ends with "The Bears needed more pass catchers, and while they can still stand to add at wideout, Everett is a good get."
Yes the Bears could use another WR but the addition of Allen to pair with Moore is of major significance and should surely bump up the grade?

No mention of Fields which could harm the grade.
Still pretty irrelevant.
Re-signed JJ for less than the tag
Acquired Gerald Everett
Acquired Keenan Allen
Signed Byard for half of what EJax would have cost.
Don’t really care about the grade but Poles team have had an outstanding FA in my opinion, regardless of Fields trade

I agree about such grades being pretty irrelevant, just like draft grades immediately after it. Results are what counts and obviously they won't be known until the end of the '24 season. But grades like this are of interest to some.Ditka’s dictaphone wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2024 1:23 am No mention of Fields which could harm the grade.

Where are my old Chicago Bears and what have you done with them, Ryan Poles?

The grades aren't very meaningful, since they didn't explain their metric:
Teams who improved their on-field talent most/least, regardless of resource available?
Best use of cap resource, however much/little it may have been?
If two teams did almost the same amount of good, but one spent a lot and one a moderate amount, would that matter?
If a team is in bad cap position, did a lot of cuts with just a couple cheap adds, but made good choices, would that get a high grade or bad grade?
But at least it's a good reference point for moves.

ESPN dinged Poles for the Byard signing. Several writers noted that he overspent into a market that was overflowing with talent, and better players than Byard are still unsigned.Grizzled wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:26 amI agree about such grades being pretty irrelevant, just like draft grades immediately after it. Those same writers probably note Eddie Jackson as some of that “overflowing talent”. The former “all-pro” safety looking for a new home to take his “ball hawking ways”.
Writers and analysts make me sick this time of year.

Wondered about that also but he's a solid add.

My granny, if she was still alive, would have been a better tackler than Eddie. Loved him his first two years, I don't know if he got snakebitten or what to start avoiding a lot of contact.

I seem to recall Jackson returned punts in college. I'd imagine if he'd had that role for the Bears in recent seasons it would have looked something like this:
