I'd be happy with Williams/Turner/McMillan/Coleman just with the four picks they have.

Everybody's so focused on trading down and getting more picks, but I'm of the mind that at this stage we need to start pushing quality over quantity.

I very much agree with this. The only way I trade down is if there's no distinction with my ratings across several players when I pick, and even then I wouldn't trade down too far and risk losing a premier player.

I always try to pick different trade down partners just to see the different options at different spots. To me; trading down and still getting one of Turner, Verse, or Latu is the best case scenario, since pretty much everyone would be happy taking one of the three at 9. Below is the one I just ran on the Pro Football Network simulator. To me, getting these three instead of just Turner would do more to improve the team.

1. Caleb Williams, QB USC
21. Jared Verse, EDGE Florida State, trade-icon
55. Michael Hall Jr., DT Ohio State, trade-icon
75. Ricky Pearsall, WR Florida
122. Mason McCormick, OG South Dakota State
184. Tory Taylor, P Iowa, trade-icon

2025 MIA 2nd

Trade Recap:
Verse and Latu were both still on the board at 9, so I felt comfortable doing a short trade down
1.9 for 1.12, 3.76, 5.136, 6.203
3.76 for 3.99, 5.154, 5.155, 6.196, 6.213, 7.254, fR4
A late 3 and a slew of Day 3 picks to drop 3 spots, when you combine them

My Selections
1.1 Caleb Williams QB | USC USC
6005 214 4.5(?)
Immediate starter
1.12 Jared Verse DE | Florida State Florida StateTRADE
6037 254 4.58
Immediate starter
3.75 Devontez Walker WR | North Carolina North Carolina
6014 193 4.36
Big, uber-athletic X could play some this year and hopefully grow into a starter
3.99 Dadrion Taylor-Demerson FS | Texas Tech Texas TechTRADE
5103 197 4.41
Great depth, but I see a good chance of becoming a starter in 1-2 yrs
4.122 Ben Sinnott TE | Kansas State Kansas State
6037 250 4.68
If you're going to run 2 most of the time, you've got to have a 3rd for injuries. Versatile, great fit. Could easily take Everett's place in 1-2 yrs.
5.136 Mason McCormick G | South Dakota State South Dakota StateTRADE
6042 309 5.08
Again, great depth who I can easily see becoming a starter in 1-2 yrs when Jenkins or Davis goes.
5.154 Luke McCaffrey WR | Rice RiceTRADE
6015 198 4.46
Depth with decent upside. Could become a nice slot/3rd receiver.
5.155 Brandon Coleman T/G | TCU TCUTRADE
6044 313 4.99
Ideally, he'd make Borom expendable and take his place. But if he just becomes a backup G who takes McCormick's place in 1-2 yrs, that's fine for this.
6.196 Tory Taylor P | Iowa IowaTRADE
6035 229
Immediate starter
6.203 Rasheen Ali HB | Marshall MarshallTRADE
5112 206 4.45(?)
Use bicep as an excuse to stash on PUP/IR. Next year he can have Herbert's job when Herbert gets paid.
6.213 Anthony Gould WR/PR | Oregon State Oregon StateTRADE
5083 174 4.41
The vajayjay experiment is over. Immediate returner.
7.254 Eyabi Okie DE | Charlotte CharlotteTRADE
6044 260 4.6(?)
Much too much athleticism not to take a flyer on him having grown up emotionally. Maybe spends 1-2 yrs on PS, maybe ousts DomRob immediately.

Didn't get the C I would have liked, with Limmer and Bortollini going unexpectedly high. But otherwise, very happy with the result.

The first 8 picks worked out QB-QB-QB-QB (Giants trade up)-OT(Alt)-WR(Harrison)-OT(Fashanu)-WR(Nabers). Turner was available. The Broncos offered #12 and a 2025 1st. The Raiders offered #13 and a 2025 1st. The Rams offered #19, #52, and a 4th, which was a bit lower than desired but there's some depth at needed positions even at that draft spot. The Steelers wanted to trade up in the 3rd and the Bears got another pick out of it. Flus gets his 3T. The YAC machine, Malachi Corley, is taken in the 3rd. A speedster at RB is taken. The Bears double up at WR but I'm not sure another pick should have been made:

It's about supporting the new QB in the best possible way. In his final season, Caleb experienced what it was like to play with a bad defense.

We are bringing in the player who will have the biggest impact on our pass rush and making Flus happy. Plus an edge and two passing stations in the later rounds.

Today's trade partners were a little different. I am now thinking that 3 QBs, 3WRs, Alt, and Dallas Turner will be taken first, creating a doomsday for the Bears at 9. I'd still rather trade down to around 20 and nab a 2nd and another late round pick instead of taking Latu or Verse there.

PFN
1. Caleb Williams, QB USC
24. Byron Murphy II, DT Texas, trade-icon
45. Adisa Isaac, EDGE Penn State. trade-icon
56. Ricky Pearsall, WR Florida, , trade-icon
75. Ben Sinnott, TE Kansas State
122.Tanor Bortolini, OC Wisconsin
170. Isaac Guerendo, RB Louisville, trade-icon
174. Cedric Johnson, EDGE Ole Miss

NFL MDDB
1 Caleb Williams, QB | USC, A+
18 Laiatu Latu, EDGE | UCLA, A
49 Zach Frazier, IOL | West Virginia, A
75 Michael Hall Jr., DL | Ohio State, A
97 Jermaine Burton, WR | Alabama, A+
122 Theo Johnson, TE | Penn State, A+

All the boards seem to be getting closer together on all the sites. I still think it's best to trade down at 9 but am going to start using Fanspeak a little more since they have so many boards and you can't trade down. Anywho......

Fanspeak with Draftek board:
1: R1 P1 QB Caleb Williams - USC
9: R1 P9 EDGE Dallas Turner - Alabama
75: R3 P11 WR Xavier Legette - South Carolina
122: R4 P22 C Drake Nugent - Michigan

Not bad....but I feel this is the worst of the three I did today.

PFN, single trade down to 19
1. Caleb Williams, QB USC
19. Laiatu Latu, EDGE UCLA, trade-icon
52. Xavier Legette, WR South Carolina, trade-icon
75. Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, OC Georgia
83. Christian Mahogany, OG Boston College, trade-icon
122. Ja'Tavion Sanders, TE Texas

Better....Latu, SVP, Mahogany > Dallas Turner. But......

NFL MDDB, double trade down with the Raiders then Dolphins
1 Caleb Williams, QB | USC, A+
21 Laiatu Latu, EDGE | UCLA, A
55 Zach Frazier, IOL | West Virginia, A
75 Malachi Corley, WR | Western Kentucky, A+
77 T'Vondre Sweat, DL | Texas, A+
122 Theo Johnson, TE | Penn State, A+
148 Ray Davis, RB | Kentucky, A+

Turning 4 picks into 7 then having these dudes fall to these spots....homerun baby!

Here is something very important to consider.

We have Carolina's round 2 pick next year. I am assuming that there is nothing that gives anyone in the NFL confidence that Carolina is going to take a giant leap in 2024. They don't have a 1st round pick this year, and Young REALLY struggled last year. You can easily project that pick between 33-42. According to the NFL draft value chart that puts that pick at about 540, minus the value for it being 2025. Which means it's worth at least 400 points.

Pick 9 is 1350 points. If you add the Carolina pick at about 400 points, that puts up to 5-7-ish. We would just need Tennessee or New York to trade back a few spots for a good 2nd round pick next year.

Random question to all of you Draft geeks out there. Who is the one player, if taken unexpectedly high, could shake up the entire first round? McCarthy? Verse? Latham? Or conversely, who do you see falling out of the top 10, that everyone has pegged there, and why?

McCarthy slipping out of the top 10 would be major. The networks would be having an orgy, they love to show miserable guys sitting in the Green Room as they're not drafted. I'd be surprisd but not overly so if Latham went top 10, he's gotten some writeups saying he'll be the best OT of the bunch. I'd be really surprised if Verse and Latu went top 10. Mildly if a DT goes in the top 10. Darius Robinson got an invite to attend since he's from near Detroit but he could be a 2nd round pick, low 1st at best. Any running back; this might set the record for lowest a RB goes off the board (currently at pick 53). Penix (insert your joke here) going to the Raiders at 13 would be quite a shocker; later in the 1st not so much. The surprise of the draft would be if Washington or New England traded out of their really high picks and took QBs lower in the 1st or the 2nd.

And now, my final simulation before the draft.
If you've paid any attention to my previous drafts, it's all familiar names.
But I thought this one was pretty incredible because very nearly every selection out of 12, I was able to get a player where that spot was about the lowest they could realistically last.
So this qualifies as pretty much my If All the Stars Aligned Dream Draft

This would be pretty great. I'm not sure we need all that volume at the lower end, but I sure appreciate adding a Punter in there. And I love the first 2 picks so I was sold right there lol...I also think S is a sneaky need for us so was happy to see one fairly high here.

Probably the best mock I've been able to do so far. A couple of trades down, and couple of players sliding farther than they should have. This draft would be epic.

1 - Caleb Williams QB | USC A+
11 - Dallas Turner EDGE | Alabama A+
36 - Graham Barton IOL | Duke A
67 - Kris Jenkins DL | Michigan A+
75 - Ja'Tavion Sanders TE | Texas A+
78 - Devontez Walker WR | North Carolina A
122 - Dadrion Taylor-Demerson S | Texas Tech A+
152 - Audric Estime RB | Notre Dame B+
167 - Tommy Eichenberg LB | Ohio State A+

I know that Byron Murphy at #9 has some big names behind it, but I'm hearing a lot of noise around Odunze again. I fully expect Poles to go DL/DE with the #9 or 2nd 1st round pick. But getting Odunze would be crazy. We would legitimately have one of the top 5 WR sets in the NFL. With a new QB.

Didn't think we'd have to go quite so high, but I was close with 138
