Regarding Odunze, this is a small thing but it really stuck in my head. It’s a quote from an anonymous coach from The Athletic’s Mock Draft with coaches comments. (Full article here: https://theathletic.com/5380858/2024/04 ... -mccarthy/)Rusty Trombagent wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 4:56 am Brett Kollman just released his WR big board (annoyingly in PDF form) this morning and has Odunze 2nd in this class, in the same tier as MHJ. (Nabers is third, but in the second tier).
“His focus is awesome,” a former Washington assistant told The Athletic, adding that Odunze would come back to the sideline and could tell coaches exactly how many times the ball rotated before it got to him.”
That struck me as pretty danged amazing. Tells me that the kid is a “technician” at WR and a student of the game.
Now, how much can a kid like this learn under the tutelage of pros like Allen and Moore? Tons, I think.
Color me sold.

I like kicking Walker inside on passing downs…Walker provided nice leadership and depth across the entire line..Glad we have have.
One guy we can’t overlook is Pickens…Everyone is talking about Dexters jump but I’m expecting Pickens to rise to a potential starter over the next couple years. One thing I believe was a driving force in Poles taking him was his work ethic…Id guess he’s been hitting the gym hard this offseason

Sure, but what has all this got to do with Penix?

I've read that also. It applies to both Murphy and Newton. But Newton, at least, is cited for his athleticism. Some of the greatest DTs (Sapp, Donald) were shorter; maybe the Bears would consider either of the top 2. As Plank also says, perhaps the Bears will play Dexter at 3T exclusively and the Bears will look at a big boy for the other DT spot to play alongside him along with Billings.Moriarty wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 1:45 pmI've had the impression the that current regime is not into the short fireplug model of 3T. They want giants like Deforest Buckner (eg Darius Robinson or Maaaaaason Smith).wulfy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 12:48 pm I keep hearing a lot of people say that Byron Murphy II is highly underrated in the media draft community (compared to NFL people) and despite the lack of length could be a real possibility at 9 for the Beloved. Has some of that Tommie Harris relentlessness. Just hope he doesn't have the knees of a 48 year old plumber.
Where are my old Chicago Bears and what have you done with them, Ryan Poles?

I like verse a lot, more so than Latu because he hasn’t medically retired from football recently. Plus I think you can trade down into the 12-15 range, get an extra bite or two, and still get him.

The question becomes though, why is Verse the same age as Latu? Latu missed two years of football because of that retirement. What's Verse's excuse?southdakbearfan wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 7:46 am I like verse a lot, more so than Latu because he hasn’t medically retired from football recently. Really confused. So the Chargers are trading the fifth for the fifth? And where did the 27th pick come from? If this is 1.11 and 1.23 instead, no way the Chargers trade back from 5 to 11 for a 23 and a two spot swap of seconds. No way.

In my university days anyone could put a team together to play intra-mural sports on a Sunday afternoon. Some of the names for teams people came up with were great. One of the football (soccer) teams was founded by a fan of Tottenham Hotspur and he named them the "Hotspurts". Some teams bought their own team shirts (jerseys). Let's just say the Hotspurts logo would fit nicely with the Penix jokes!
My favourite though was the Rugby team who named themselves "The Feckless Ruckers"!

That one reminded me of this question from The Chase quiz show:
The Chase is notorious for slipping in innuendo-laden questions designed to get host Bradley Walsh to crack up. The most famous and hilarious is this one:

Verse played 4 years of college ball…Again, he was slotted potentially as a top 5 pick if he came out last year..he decided to go back and work on his game.Yogi da Bear wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 7:52 amThe question becomes though, why is Verse the same age as Latu? Only in 3 other drafts has a team taken a 1st round QB and WR:
1968: Detroit - Greg Landry and Earl McCullouch
2004: Buffalo - J.P. Losman and Lee Evans
2010: Denver - Tim Tebow and Demaryious Thomas
If the Bears take a WR at #9, it would be the first time that a team drafted both in the top 10.

I think the first 8 have to include:
4 QBs
Harrison, Nabers
Alt
It depends on needs and trades, but 8th seems most likely to be Turner or Odunze
If Turner is gone, take Odunze or wait until later in a deep WR group?
If Odunze is gone, take Turner or wait go later?
I think if Turner is there, they pull the trigger. Fairly sure he was the one they were slobbering over in that clip.
Unsure what they'd do with Odunze.

Saw this today.
Not implausible.
I'd like to think they could get a little more for going so far. But I could see it.

I'd have to say it's doubtful. Will Anderson went at #3 and there's no way Verse would have been ranked in that same range. He ranks second to Turner this year and it's pretty much agreed that Turner isn't at this point in time the player Anderson was. I think Verse is a very good football player but he's not an elite pass rusher which IMHO may even push him beyond the top ten in either year.

a 2025 R3 pick and a 2025 R4 pick.
I think that’s cheap, can’t see Poles going for that.

Nah, that'll be TMP stalking Gardner Minshew. Easy mistake to make though.
