I thought Waldron called a good game in the 2nd half. He made some nice adjustments. It was good to see the ground game get going. I think Pryor has found himself a home on this OL. Not sure what the zone defense was that the Bears were running, but it wasn't working. So soft. But they made plays when they had to. My number one gripe is the pre-snap penalties. Totally unacceptable. That is indicative of a poorly disciplined team. No bueno.

Justin Fields had 377 all purpose yards with a 102 rating.

Things are getting better. The running game got rolling and helped Caleb significantly. With less pressure on his shoulders, he played an unspectacular but turnover-free game. Just two sacks is also a big step forward. The O Line is still very fragile. The many penalties were annoying.
I see hope for further progress with Waldron and the entire offensive. Things are slowly getting better and optimizations are constantly taking place. After the bye week we'll get our shit together. Until then we will be 3:3 or if things go well 4:2

He and the OL looked a lot better in the second half, ironically without the guy who's been easily their best the past two years. How much of that is because Pryor is better at LG than he is at RG? If Tev, who had a rib injury, comes back should he go back to RG and leave Pryor at LG?Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 4:05 pm I think Pryor has found himself a home on this OL.
They ran from under center a lot more and I think that was a big factor in their improvement.

I'm curious does QB rating take fumbles into account? I know he had at least 1 fumble today, and 2 more through the first three games, but if it's not counted in the QBR that kinda odd. Should be counted as badly as an Interception.

It depends what you mean by QB rating.
QBR, aka "Total QB rating", is ESPN's grading system which does factor in QB fumbles along with a host of other factors, including for example penalties and sacks the QB is responsible for, down and distance, game situation, strength of the defense, garbage time etc. It's very complex and it's algorithm is not readily accessible.
However when a lot of folk refer to QBR they actually mean passer rating, which is the official NFL statistic. That is purely based on a QB's passing statistics so does not include fumbles.

Gotta give credit where due tho. The coaches are trying to change things up. Using Doug Kramer at FB was a creative, successful solution.
We need to unlock DJ Moore.
It SO feels like the OC brought in his preferred offensive style. But that way of winning doesn't play to the strengths of our team. Particularly the OL.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Our problem is the offensive scheme. We need a play designer first more than a play caller. I'm watching the Ravens offensive line's creative blocking and we are not even close. I just saw a fullback chop block a DT after going in motion for a first down. We struggle just blocking.

I expect to see some changes in the blocking scheme over the bye week.

interesting you’d say that. I was watching the Washington game earlier and was thinking, “How is their offense that much more fluid and dynamic than ours?”Hero wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 8:39 pm Our problem is the offensive scheme. I’m not having buyers remorse over Caleb but Kingsbury and Daniels are definitely cooking. What’s our problem?

Right now, Washington’s offense is arguably the most efficient in the league. They had over 100 yards rushing in the first half yesterday. Daniels had essentially picked up where he left off at lsu, Washington’s oline may be playing better than any line in the league and Kingsbury is setting himself up to be a head coach in 2025 (possibly for the Bears if the season goes south on the beloved)

Hi folks, is this thing on? Let’s GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
We are 2-2.
Caleb just played his best game as a Bear and is improving every week
Our defense is outstanding
Our STs are outstanding
The arrow is up. I think Waldron and our OL found some things they can build on this week. Pryor has been good, Kramer out of the backfield is a nice wrinkle. Short yardage offense is getting an identity. A few more steps forward and this thing may take off!!

I'm going to be on a trip for a stretch soon and will miss a game, so that should help.HurricaneBear wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 6:07 amMaybe time for a mental health break? Seasons really not been that bad considering our history...
I think I had too much hope going into the season and let my usual walls about the team down way more than usual. When they're not clicking and it feels immediately like we're destined for another rebuild, I can't stomach it.

I will say. Tory Taylor is must watch TV. The dude is unreal, and worth every bit of a 4th round draft pick. He changed the game yesterday, and kept the Rams wrestling with a lot of grass to cover for points. Great pick Poles!

I used to get roasted for my punter obsession, but now we are seeing what type of impact a really good one can have on a game. He should be ours for 10+ years!!

I think the most impressive thing is he just stood in the pocket with it collapsing around him, no panic, and threw a dime. That was crazy.
