ON the Cap Room - I Note the following:
1) You don't have to spend it all - you Can just Carry that forward (which is probably a wise course of action)
2) There aren't many FAs to spend it on. I think the areas right now that are shaping up to have Good FA crops - WR and S - aren't where we will be looking to spend our money. Granted there are some Pass Rushers too - and there could be a "it just takes one" type of guy with Trey Smith (whom I believe Poles was around for the drafting of)
But I don't see us spending big FA money on the following positions - Special Teams, QB, HB, WR, TE, LB, S, CB. Which leaves OL and DL primarily - and there won't be really anything OT wise anyway.
We also have a 1st and 2 2nds
3) We will be in the range where we can start getting 2nd contracts to Poles draft picks (Gordon, Brisker, Braxton. - And the no doubt monster deal for Velus;). (I KID!). So Cap Room could be going there too
Would you listen on Keenan Allen?

So many great thoughts...points in this thread....
In the end, whatever is best for the team. I will admit, my answer before Hard Knocks would have been I trust Poles - But hanging on to Velus has really back fired and Keenan being hurt hasn't helped...Also... any so called chemistry isn't anywhere to be found on deep balls - so, always listening, but listening more closely a week or two from now.
3rd or better (realizing these are late in the round picks).... 3rd and 6th I'm listening and if we aren't playoff bound - I'm in.
Allen isn't likely to resign here at our number, so give us more opp for success...
The money savings might be interesting if we could front load some current guys this season...but I'm not Capologist... so who knows. He's a FA and his money will be free'd up this offseason quickly.
Also, on the comp picks - I thought we were going to have some money to spend this offseason with Keenan's money, Davis Money, Borom money.... so, I'm not banking on comp picks until we fix the damn OL... We need atleast 2 and as many as 4 new OL... so I don't see that helping our Comp pick possibilities

I think they have Bates and Kiran slated for 2 of those OL Spots - As well as I'd think one of those top 3 picks (1st, 2nd, 2nd - with the 2nd Round being a particularly sweet spot for an Interior Offensive Lineman) - And even then you could still sign a FA OL not named Trey Smith and still get a Comp pick (depending on the rest of your FA)Chifaninca wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 3:03 pm So many great thoughts...points in this thread....

How does this impact Caleb Williams' development?
What is KC willing to give up?
Is Keenan receptive?
I don't know that I'd make a deal, but I'd listen.

We haven't really seen a lot of Bates because of injury, but I feel like he's a great depth piece and not a guy I want as my full-time starter. Clearly Poles likes him, so we'll see how the plan unfolds. Unfortunately (for continuity/consistency sake), it would seem like there's going to be a lot of change on the line next year no matter how we slice it, and I think we'll have to sign a good (relatively expensive) starter to play somewhere on the line.RichH55 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 3:18 pmI think they have Bates and Kiran slated for 2 of those OL Spots - As well as I'd think one of those top 3 picks (1st, 2nd, 2nd - with the 2nd Round being a particularly sweet spot for an Interior Offensive Lineman) - And even then you could still sign a FA OL not named Trey Smith and still get a Comp pick (depending on the rest of your FA)Chifaninca wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 3:03 pm So many great thoughts...points in this thread....

I would always be willing to listen. I would try to leverage high value for him though as the Bears already have a lot of draft capital and cap room next year. He's probably a one-year Bear only after the drafting of Odunze and is a total luxury. Getting a lineman (either side of the ball) that can start for us or a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him would be a great return (and probably unrealistic). Since people are talking draft a bit, I want to use all 3 of the top draft picks on the lines. One for d-line and two for o-line.

The Chiefs are also 4-0 with a 2 game lead in their division and aiming to become the first team to win 3 Super Bowls in a row. Would trading their star OG (who PFF currently ranks #3) and the associated risk that poses to Mahomes' protection really be worth it? I'm inclined to think they'd rather maximise their chances of creating history, which most assuredly means keeping Mahomes healthy, even if it means losing Smith for nothing to free agency after the season is over.

Yes,you always listen to what a desperate team is gonna offer.....
Yes KC is desperate at wr,they are going for a threepeat that the all want very badlly.......They msy throw in a lot to get the player they think will help them the most....
That being said-
Not sure why the Cheifs would want an over aged injury prone wt........Keenan wont be a Chief.....
If I was Poles and KC came a knocking, its bye bye KA.......we dont need Allen,he is not the future here.

There are also other options out there including Davante Adams for around the same as Allen would cost cap-wise. Adams does have another 2 years left on his contract after this year with a dead cap hit of $15m, but there are no further guarantees so I'm not sure that dead cap hit would pass to a new team. Either way he's younger, healthier, faster and more explosive than Allen.

Tyreek Hill also apparently available. Don't know how the numbers work, but it would be a reunion.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2024 7:33 am There are also other options out there including Davante Adams for around the same as Allen would cost cap-wise. Agreed - Can I say Trey is better than Jenkins yet? I still couldn't sign Trey in offseason - he's getting that 20 Million deal that we thought was going to Jenkins somewhere

I was so pumped when the Bears got Allen, but he hasn't been healthy enough to be useful as of yet ... but unless KC is offering a starting caliber (and I mean by NFL standards, not Bears standards) contributor for the offensive line in return, I say no
