Quite a late start this year, for me.

Buffalo FAMBase
Trades:
2.14 for 2.23, 3.23
3.23 (2 trades down) became 4.12, 5.4, 5.12, 7.4
1.14 DE Mykel Williams Georgia
6'4 265 4.55
Prototype
2.33 DT Ken Grant Michigan
6'3 340 5.05
Massive beast can line up 0-3
2.55 WR Elic Ayomanor Stanford
6'2 210 4.4
Breakout star last year. Maintains a trio of studs when Allen leaves. Primarily an X.
3.78 FS Rod Moore Michigan
5'11 200 4.45
If the knee is fine, bring it on. Fast, experienced, 6 INTs in last 2 yrs.
4.113 OL Jonah Monheim USC
6'5 305 5.2
Can backup all 5 positions, but maybe start on the interior?
5.141 DE Jasheen Davis Wake Forest
6'3 260 4.7
Hard to have too many. 20 sacks, 40 TFL last 3 yrs.
5.149 TE Tyler Warren Penn State
6'6 260 4.65
Well-rounded, with a breakout season in his 4th yr.
5.151 G Josh Gray Oregon State
6'4 305 5.05
Starting potential. May rise well past this.
6.190 HB Jarquez Hunter Auburn
5'9 210 4.5
Change of pace back to replace Herbert, Homer
6.197 OT Jalen Travis Princeton/Iowa State
6'7 315 5.05
Physical upside.
6.200 TE RJ Maryland SMU
6'4 235 4.75
Smaller move TE, with a lot of yards at a lesser program
7.220 1T Cam Jackson Florida
6'6 375 5.45
In case Grant wasn't big enough. Probably starts on PS, although Cowart/Randolph/Pickens are looking very beatable.
Might have to end up having to go harder at IOL. But there's even less C quality than usual.

Obviously, we're quite a bit out (most likely, anyway) from when this occurs/doesn't occur. Would you like to make a Pony avatar bet over this subject, though? Because I'm game. Say, a month? Sounds about right, to me.
My mother's love was inexplicably linked to kickball.

What kind of pony?
Like, My Little Pony? Or are we talking furries or ponyboys here?

NFL Mock Draft Database
Didn't realize I got so many of the same guys in the back half - really Hunter is the only one I pick constantly. But the top half wound up
very different, when all my favorite targets were already off the board. Still, that allowed me to trade down and fill everything, which
otherwise wouldn't be possible (just via draft).
Trade Recap
New York Receives:
2025: Round 1, Pick 20
Chicago Receives:
2025: Round 2, Pick 38
2025: Round 3, Pick 70
2025: Round 4, Pick 102
2025: Round 5, Pick 139
2.33 J.T. Tuimoloau DE | Ohio State Ohio State
6'4 270 4.65
Great run stopper with decent pass rush. Reversed would be better, but you can't win em all.
2.38 Walter Nolen 3T | Mississippi MississippiTRADE
6'4 290 4.90
Splits time with Dexter or, ideally, beats him out
2.52 Isaiah Bond WR | Texas Texas
5'11 180 4.4
Poised for breakout. Even if Scott works out, Bears could use more pure speed.
3.70 Donovan Jackson G | Ohio State Ohio StateTRADE
6'4 320 4.9
Bears should consider it a win if they only feel the need to replace one next spring.
3.84 Rod Moore FS | Michigan Michigan

If the knee is fine, bring it on. Fast, experienced, 6 INTs in last 2 yrs

5.148 DeMonte Capehart 1T | Clemson Clemson
6'4 320 5.05
Power player to backup Billings
6.180 Jarquez Hunter HB | Auburn AuburnTRADE

Giant beast can play either side and provides a killer rotation of Walker/Billings/Dexter
43 Donovan Jackson G | Ohio State Ohio State
6'4 320 4.9
Even if Davis rebounds somewhat (and I expect the groin and conditioning to be an issue all season), he's done here
66 Tory Horton WR | Colorado State Colorado StateTRADE

Hands and great production at CSU. Z to replace Allen.
74 Josh Simmons OT | Ohio State Ohio State
6'5 310 5.15
I haven't taken a T this high all summer, but IDK WTF Wright was doing out there last week (and camp reports were bad, too)
89 Tyler Warren TE | Penn State Penn StateTRADE
6'6 260 4.65
Big, athletic, and currently on pace for 1000 yds
101 Bryce Foster C/G | Kansas Texas A&MTRADE

Not sure if he can start Day 1, but he seems to be the best available at this point

6'3 235 4.5
Luxury/value pick here - rated properly, but slid a long way
153 Jarquez Hunter HB | Auburn Auburn
5'9 210 4.5

Physically versatile and has upside
Didn't get a FS, but it can wait a year

* I traded to make our picks later - I don't see picking 8th at all.
* They completely forgot Monheim, which is a problem when there's so few C options, so I "selected him" at 80, which I think is reasonable
* As always, I never take players if I think they've been horribly misranked (or won't come out) and wouldn't actually be available there
Trade Partner: San Francisco 49ers
2.48 for 2.63, 3.101, 4.132
Trade Partner: Indianapolis Colts
2.33 for 2.42, 3.74
16: R1 P16 DT Deone Walker - Kentucky
6'5 345 5.15
Giant beast can play either side and provides a killer rotation of Walker/Billings/Dexter
42: R2 P10 G Donovan Jackson - Ohio State
6'4 320 4.9
I think we're at the point where we need 2 new starters
63: R2 P31 WR Elic Ayomanor - Stanford
6'2 210 4.4
Breakout star last year. Maintains a trio of studs when Allen leaves. Primarily an X.
74: R3 P10 FS Billy Bowman - Oklahoma
5'10 195 4.4
Smaller than you'd like, but there are smaller high-end FSs. Surprising that this is the first time I've taken him in a sim I posted. Gets a year to learn behind Byard.
80: R3 P16 C/G Jonah Monheim - USC
6'5 305 5.2
Move to center seems to be working out
101: R3 P37 TE Mason Taylor - LSU
6'5 255 4.65
Good triangle numbers, on pace for 700 yds, son of Jason Taylor. In.
122: R4 P21 C/G Clay Webb - Jacksonville State
6'3 310 5.25
Won a collegiate 2023 Guard of the Year award, but was a 5star center coming out of HS.
132: R4 P31 DT Nazir Stackhouse - Georgia
6'3 320 5.05
Run stuffer with some potential to get more rounded.
153: R5 P16 HB Trevor Etienne - Georgia
5'9 205 4.45
Herbert will likely want out, given his nonexistent role this season.
233: R7 P17 DE Malachi Lawrence - UCF
6'4 250 4.65
May stay, but has some physical upside.
252: R7 P36 FB/HB JaQuiden Jackson - Arkansas
6'2 235 4.55
As much fun as Kramer at FB is, you really should have a true backup (on the PS, usually) for when your starter gets hurt.

https://www.dailyherald.com/20241003/ch ... aks-loose/One issue to watch is depth on the defensive line. Nose guard Andrew Billings has been on the field for 68% of the snaps. Last year it was 47%. Gervon Dexter has been even busier, logging 72.4% of the defensive snaps, after played 40% as a rookie. One problem is second-year defensive tackle Zacch Pickens hasn't played since early in Week 1. The Bears trusted Byron Cowart to play just 11 snaps against the Rams. …
This is why I'm always taking DT first in these sims.
It also makes the 2nd DE position less urgent, if everything else is great.

My main concern in my mock was starters in the G and OC positions. I traded down a bit in the first round and was still able to secure what was supposed to be the best DT in the draft. A solid WR and TE was also important to me. I didn't use OT because I see Kirian here.

What the heck. Fanspeak (basic, no trades), most recent rankings.
1.11: Deone Walker, DT, Kentucky. And the league wept. Huge with a ton of pop, but in a different way than Billings or Dexter.
2.33: Wyatt Milum, G, West Virginia. Elite pass-blocker and an aggressive run-blocker whose arm length argues for a move inside. Specifically to LG (see below, and thanks for everything, Tevin).
2.43: Malaki Starks, S, Georgia. Not a huge need, but if we're as good as we'd like to think we are, we take a guy like this when he falls. And insurance for Brisker isn't a terrible idea.
3.75: Earnest Greene, G, Georgia. Built like a tackle, heavy-footed enough to move to RG. Where he'll team up with a newly confident and motivated Wright. Amegadjie at LT and look the fuck out.
4.124: Patrick Payton, DE, Florida St. Tons of talent that hasn't really translated when I've seen him, but still...tons of talent at a position we should keep building.
5.148: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn St. I mean, he won't be here on draft day. But if he is, forget how many TEs we already have. You draft him and enjoy the benefits of having at least two TEs who can block, run, catch, and be seen in pictures when they stand behind the punter.

So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.
Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

I'd quibble with Greene in the 3rd (I'm rarely high on Kirby Smart offensive linemen), but other than that, I love this draft – even if Starks is , in my opinion, less likely to be availalbe in Round 2 than Warren is to be in Round 5. Milum, especially, is the sort of guy I always favor on the OL as a college tackle who looks like a good fit at G but has the ability to play T in a pinch.karhu wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 1:53 pm What the heck. Thanks. I thought it was stupid that Starks got out of the first, but it would've felt like a luxury before I'd taken an O-lineman. He's great, but has he gotten that Polamalu/Reed/Thomas game-changer aura about him? I'd been thinking of him more as a glue guy, but haven't been following things as closely this year.thunderspirit wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 2:32 pm I'd quibble with Greene in the 3rd (I'm rarely high on Kirby Smart offensive linemen), but other than that, I love this draft – even if Starks is , in my opinion, less likely to be availalbe in Round 2 than Warren is to be in Round 5. Greene, yeah, maybe I was thinking "if he plays anywhere, it's RG...and if he makes it at RG, he'll make it big."
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

If the Bears come away with Deone Walker and Tyler Booker with the first two picks, I really don't care what happens in the rest of the draft. Right now those are my guys.

Mock Draft Database
A rare no trade for me
(Trading is more fun, it's generally a superior draft approach, and it lets you explore more players, which is really the point of simming.)
1.18 Deone Walker DT | Kentucky Kentucky
6'5 345 5.15
Giant beast can play either side and provides a killer rotation of Walker/Billings/Dexter
2.35 Isaiah Bond WR | Texas Texas
5'11 180 4.4
With Scott and Velus tanking, Bears lack a pure speedster.
2.50 Donovan Jackson G | Ohio State Ohio State
6'4 320 4.9 FreaksList 26
Easily my favorite G option
3.82 Tate Ratledge G | Georgia Georgia
6'6 320 5.05
This is a little unlikely, in that you probably only let Teven go if you have another IOL FA in your sights. But let's suppose he leaves and no long-term veteran replacement.
4.128 Sonny Styles LB | Ohio State Ohio StateTRADE
6'4 235 4.5 FreaksList 19
Inexperienced at LB after converting from S and probably should stay another year. But if he declares, he's huge, fast, high football IQ, bloodlines. He can intern for a year before hitting the starting lineup.
5.156 Trevor Etienne HB | Georgia Georgia
5'9 205 4.45
Herbert will likely want out, given his nonexistent role this season.
7.246 R.J. Maryland TE | SMU SMU
6'4 235 4.75
Smaller move TE, with a lot of yards at a lesser program
7.256 Xavier Scott DB | Illinois Illinois
5'11 190 4.5
DB with a nose for the football, likely starting on the PS

Fanspeak (Buffalo FAMbase)
Recent events actually make sim drafting less fun, because who knows what the systems & priorities will be next year. But here it is anyway.
Trades:
1.11 for 1.20, 2.20, 3.29
2.20 for 3.6, 3.30
So, essentially 3R3 to drop 9 spots.
1.20 DT Deone Walker - Kentucky
6'5 345 5.15
Giant beast can play either side and provides a killer rotation of Walker/Billings/Dexter. If you weren't buying this before, you will after a few weeks of no Billings.
2.33 G Donovan Jackson - Ohio State
6'4 320 4.9 FreaksList 26
Easily my favorite G option
2.43 WR Isaiah Bond - Texas
5'11 180 4.4
Production hasn't been great, but everyone agrees there's a lot of raw ability. Would come in as the 3rd (WR) option, 4th overall, so not a lot of early pressure.
3.70 G Tate Ratledge - Georgia
6'6 320 5.05
There are no quality C options so far and I'd rather go DL in R1 & give Wright and Kiran another year to show what they are before considering OT. So G is what I'm hammering.
3.75 FS Billy Bowman - Oklahoma
5'10 195 4.4
Smaller than you'd like, but there are smaller high-end FSs. I've been treating S as an optional pick, but now that Brisker is toast, it's more necessary. Byard's ability to play either side is a big help here.
3.93 TE Mason Taylor - LSU
6'5 255 4.65
Good triangle numbers, on pace for 550 yds, son of Jason Taylor. In.
3.94 HB Jordan James - Oregon
5'9 210 4.5
Hasn't risen on most boards yet, but (assuming he comes out, which, being a RB, he should) he will. On pace for roughly 6 ypc (career), 1300 yds (this season).
5.148 LB Lander Barton - Utah
6'3 235 4.6
Slid over a full round from a reasonable ranking. Bears next system will probably incorporate 3 LBs more and keep 6 on the roster. Also, lets you groom him to be a cheap TJ replacement.
6.202 TE Bryson Nesbit - North Carolina
6'5 235 4.65
Smaller move TE was on track for 3rd straight year of 500+ yards until a broken wrist. This clears out both current backups.
7.246 DE Jasheen Davis - Wake Forest
6'3 270 4.7
I can understand wanting DE done high. But I prefer the DT options. There will be some FA DE. And Taylor is an ok temporary stopgap, if you don't land something big.
7.250 PR/WR Squirrel White - Tennessee
5'9 165 4.35 FreaksList 59
This is an acceptable place to draft an electric but limited kick returning gadget guy, not 71.
Just saying.

Well, the honeymoon is over. I was hoping against hope that I wouldn't be doing mock drafts before the season ended as I bought into the Bears' hype and they rolled to a winning record and the playoffs. Alas, it was not meant to be. So now it's looking at DL/DE/OL. In '23, 4 teams finished with 4 or fewer wins, another with 5, and 2 more with 6. The Bears are currently at 16 but could rise to as high as 6 or 7. 17 teams are currently at 4 or fewer wins.

Fanspeak (Buffalo FAMbase) with an updated board since 2 weeks ago
Trades:
3.11 for 3.19, 4.19
9: R1 P9 DT Mason Graham - Michigan
6'3 320 4.95, 90 PFF
We've finally gotten bad enough for a crack at the best DT in the draft, hooray!
41: R2 P9 DE Princely Umanmielen - Ole Miss
6'4 255 4.7, 91 PFF, on pace for double digit sacks
Maybe it's just Sweat being banged up, maybe it's Billings being out, but my concern over the front 4 is growing. Went with this at the expense of receiving targets.
43: R2 P11 G Donovan Jackson - Ohio State
6'4 320 4.9 FreaksList 26
83: R3 P19 FS Billy Bowman - Oklahoma
5'10 195 4.4, 11 picks over last 3 yrs
120: R4 P19 TE/WR Eli Stowers - Vanderbilt
6'4 235 4.5, 89 PFF, on track for 700+ yds in 2nd TE season, FreaksList 61
Ex-collegiate QB had the sense to make the switch. Endless upside and it's not like the floor is that low.
148: R5 P11 LB Lander Barton - Utah
6'3 235 4.6
Not really understanding all the sleeping on him
196: R6 P21 HB Jarquez Hunter - Auburn

I like this one from PFN today. Got talent to build both lines and was able to improve depth all over the place!

Despite how bad the Bears are I haven't done a deep dive into college talent, yet. So I'm pretty limited to the first 3, maybe 4 rounds. That being said, I love what you did with the first 4 picks. I do fear that Campbell very well could be off the board at 12. Given I think we are going to be picking so high, he's he guy I hope we come away with in the first.Z Bear wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 3:19 pm I like this one from PFN today. Little experiment here.
Fanspeak, Fambase, no trades, moderately high.
1.10: Mason Graham, DT, Michigan. Not just a surpassing talent and a mulligan on the Jalen Carter mistake, but a tone-setter who should help further define whatever scraps of team character remain after Eberflus.
2.38: Tyler Booker, G, Alabama. I've liked what I've seen, though admittedly that's not every one of his games. Another outspoken team leader from what I've read.
2.42: LT Overton, DE, Alabama. I really like this guy. A rich man's DeMarcus Walker, or maybe a hypercaffeinated man's DeMarcus Walker, but still a fun piece as a DE/DT to Walker's proper DT/DE.
3.74: Kevin Winston, S, Penn St. It's weird to say "pending recovery from mystery injury," but everything points to his surgery being minor. I'd meant to draft a safety a bit later, but he's clearly the BPA right now, so why not? He's very, very good.
5.147: Xavier Nwankpa, S, Iowa. This might be where the "moderately high" part comes into play. After taking Winton by virtue of his being BPA on my list...I did it again. No more safeties after this, promise. But Nwankpa's that good. Byard's not exactly a shadow of himself, but he's not getting extended past next year. Our Joseph+Branch, for a third and a fifth.
6.202: Oscar Delp, TE, Georgia. Not a huge need, but I know he's a terrific athlete and a big-speedy TE and I don't know much about the remaining O-linemen. So I'm about to take two of them.
6.227: Billy Schrauth, G, Notre Dame. He's a leader on a good team. He's from Wisconsin and his name is Schrauth. 'Nuf for me.
7.243: Logan Jones, C, Iowa. I know he's undersized, and we don't need another undersized center. But hear me out: He's from Iowa. And he's bigger than Coleman Shelton.

So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

42: R2 P10 G Donovan Jackson - Ohio State
6'4 320 4.9 FreaksList 26
48: R2 P16 SS Nick Emmanwori - South Carolina
6'3 225 4.4, 6 INTs in last 2 seasons, FreaksList 11
I'm envisioning him shedding a few and staying at S, but an eventual move to LB is possible. Go ahead and hate Flus, but he's not responsible for 3 concussions in 3 yrs or months without being able to clear the concussion protocol.
74: R3 P10 WR Evan Stewart - Oregon
6'0 175 4.4
Genuine burner
80: R3 P16 TE Mason Taylor - LSU
6'5 255 4.65, 550 yds receiving, son of Jason Taylor
147: R5 P10 HB/KR Jarquez Hunter - Auburn
5'9 210 4.5, 1200yds and a career 6.3ypc, FreaksList 71
202: R6 P27 DT Jay Toia - UCLA
6'2 325 5.2
Tongan hulk to back up Billings
227: R7 P12 FB/HB Ja'Quinden Jackson - Arkansas
6'2 235 4.55
Former QB turned power HB
243: R7 P28 PR/WR Squirrel White - Tennessee
5'9 165 4.35 FreaksList 59
Couldn't pass on Carter, leaving DT to wait until late
Would have liked 2 OL, but it didn't fall well, including them accidentally leaving Charles Grant off the rankings
Only 1 Trade:
2.38 for 2.48, 3.80

6'2 250 DEs were kind of an Eberflus thing. Carter also feels more like a 3-4 guy.

Next HC, DC certainly plays a role and, sure, 6'2 250 is easier to project to OLB, but I wouldn't in any way write it off before knowing the system.
Khalil Mack was 6025 251 4.6
Carter is estimated at 6021 252 4.5
Everybody would like a 6'4 270 4.6 DE with double digit sack production, but they're practically unicorns and pass rushing is an elite value skill.
There's not a single guy in the draft that meets that ideal. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a little to get your rush. Sweat is already stout against the run.

And Mack has spent the majority of his career as an outside linebacker.
