I think there is a shit ton of click bait, of dubious accuracy being thrown about by some of these “sportswriters”.

Absolutely. I’m not believing the clickbait that convinced so many that Harbaugh would never have come here any more than the clickbait that says the opposite. My whole argument has been pushing back against these assertive “he was never willing to come here” claims that many made to excuse Poles failure to strike at a unique opportunity. I’m just well beyond granting this franchise any benefit doubt, I assume they do stupid stuff until they start proving otherwise.southdakbearfan wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 4:42 pm I think there is a shit ton of click bait, of dubious accuracy being thrown about by some of these “sportswriters”.
Whatever.
Just look at the Bears’ record, both in making hires and in the W/L column. Like passing on Arians for Trestman, Mahomes for Trubisky, and Kingsbury for Waldron…they probably passed on flus for Harbaugh. Because Bears.

I shed no tears over not getting Harbaugh. He’s a weird dude whose shtick wears off quickly and he causes massive divisions in every organization he’s been in. When he was in SF, they tried to trade him to the Browns.
Is he doing well this year? Yes.

The Harbaugh stuff isn't the best Anti-Bears narrative out there IMHO.

Well, I do think this dynamic has changed some. He did 9 years at Michigan, that's not a short burn out type deal. And his players, in Year 9, would all run through a wall for the guy and absolutely loved him. And he won a National Championship in Y9, so it's not like his message wore off in any way.wulfy wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 7:09 pm I shed no tears over not getting Harbaugh. Warren and Harbaugh clashed when Warren was commish of the Big 10. Warren wanted to cancel the football season during Covid but coaches including Harbaugh talked him out of that. Harbaugh is notorious for wanting "his" GM in place. It's very possible that Warren knew this and told whomever (Harbaugh's agent?) that the Bears wouldn't fire Poles for him. As well as Warren knowing how prickly Harbaugh could be. I doubt there were any official talks as Flus was still the coach and I doubt the Bears would do this behind his back. If he had been fired, then I could see one side reaching out.

I would note that college is different than the Pros in terms of message wearing off. College they gotta leave after X amount of years and you get less time with them then the Pros.dplank wrote: Sat Dec 07, 2024 10:03 amWell, I do think this dynamic has changed some. But the overall longevity at Michigan and him being Weird AF - very fair points

And this is the version I'm sticking with. Harbaugh and Warren are like fire and kerosene. Why would have even want to subject himself to Warren's scrutiny all over again when the Chargers were in play and the West Coast beckoned? At best the Bears were a failed bargaining chip for his agent.UOK wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 11:29 am @SearTower
Dan's report is clearly just recycling old news. At the time, Harbaugh's agent was trying to generate Bears interest against the Chargers for the benefit of his contract. So he told someone Harbaugh was still interested in the Bears hence the offseason reports of Harbaugh wanting to come to the Bears (when in reality he always wanted to go to the Chargers). The Bears caught scent of this report and that's when Poles shut it down because he was never planning on moving from Eberflus. Then as a counter to continue to generate Bears interest and make Harbaugh still look good, Harbaugh's agent probably said that the Bears WERE interested but it was "Warren who shut it down" so it was "out of their hands". Then somebody on the lower hierarchy in the Bears probably heard that at that time and shared it with Dan recently who's now reporting it blindly. So is he technically wrong? No. But there's context to this stuff.

A selfish motive they hope will benefit their own reputation as one who seems to know something no one else does. It's the pattern that developed of simply saying things that have no basis in fact on the hope that enough people will believe you to benefit from it. We should all have seen precisely how this works by now.Rusty Trombagent wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 9:26 am The thing about dudes like this throwing bullshit at the wall, if someone in the know truly chose now to leak this, what motive would they have? Who does this benefit?

48 seconds. Down by 1. Ball on the (-) 20 yard line. 1 timeout remaining.

Biggs seems like an insider who is controlled by the franchise IMO. They let him off his leash for smaller items to keep the ruse up, but he toes the company line for anything they care about.

He has a metric shit-ton of connections throughout the league. His insight is elite.

Warren lost me with his weird praying on TV thing before talking about the stadium. Dude has a massive stick up his ass. I trust Poles far more than Warren hiring our next coach.HurricaneBear wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 9:15 amI remember that as well and they were absolutely right. Negative mark for Warren here he should have swallowed his ego and hired the best football mind available to coach the Bears. I'm quickly souring on Warrenwab wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 9:02 am When the Harbaugh stuff came up last year someone here speculated that Warren would never go for it because they clashed in the NCAA. I'll have to go back and find who that was.

Warren best stay in the background and focus on the Arlington endeavor. His performance at the press conference was a PR turd in his lap.
There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

And all the more troubling because the McCaskeys have a long, long history of putting "Devout Christian" at the top of their HC/GM/VP qualification list and "good at football stuff" somewhere further down the line.

Well, it's much clunkier to say, but, ok, "devout followers of a Judeo-Christian God".
