Thomas Brown 2025 Head Coach anyone? Anyone?
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

It was a fun week of hope and optimism. But alas, it’s not in the stars for this team.

Harumph.
There is a GM named Poles
Who has a clear set of goals
He’s rebuilt his team
So Bears’ fans can dream
Of winning some more Super Bowls

We fucking suck. I knew the defense would take a step back but Jesus Christ this was awful.
Can't wait to hear what Jaylon has to say.
48 seconds. Down by 1. Ball on the (-) 20 yard line. 1 timeout remaining.

Shouldn't judge Washington after 1 game even as bad as it was, particularly on the road against the 49ers. For the life of me I don't understand why so many thought we would win this game, that was never happening. Meanwhile, the shine sure came off Brown as the offense looked absolutely inept.
This game was the epitome of what it looks like when you get absolutely dominated at the LOS on both sides of the ball.
2 turds flushed, 1 to go. I'm officially done with Poles.

Per Tankathon, our first round pick has officially hit the top-10. #9 currently.

Think he'll go somewhat higher but one can hope. Banks from Texas should be available. Mason Graham fromMichigan. Several top DEs.wab wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 8:08 pmThat’s probably good enough for Will Campbell.alexwilkins wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 7:54 pm Per Tankathon, our first round pick has officially hit the top-10. #9 currently.

Reasons why folk might have thought the Bears had a chance:dplank wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 7:53 pm For the life of me I don't understand why so many thought we would win this game, that was never happening.
1) A boost from the change in coaching
2) Had lost their last 3 games by a combined 7 points and all due to late game screw ups
3) Were coming off a mini-bye with almost all starters playing
4) Were playing a team with only one more win than them
5) Were playing a team which had lost 3 in a row
6) Were playing a team which had scored 10 points and allowed 35+ in their last 2 games
7) Were playing a team missing their star RB (and his primary backup), their star LT and their star DE
Most people predicted a one score game either way. Nobody expected such a lop-sided result. Nobody predicted the 49ers scoring more than 31 or the Bears less than 17.
otis got closest with 18 - 31 to the 49ers.
38 points is the most the 49ers have scored all season and 13 is tied for the lowest they've held any team to (the other being the woeful Patriots).

Yikes.
Losing narrowly to great teams on bad calls and bad coaching = great outcome
Getting the shit kicked out of you by a mediocre/hurt team = bad news
Thomas Brown's HC prospects (around the league, for years) may get tanked by this, but I have to suspect that DC:Eberflus & OC:Brown vs DC:Washington & OC:??? may have been the real problem here. The Bears had better hope so and that they work out the kinks really darn fast.
I continue to think Hightower as HC and leaving Brown as OC would have been the better play.
The McCaskeys may well be sitting around yelping "See! See! This is why you don't fire coaches during the season!"
If this horrifying implosion continues for 4 more weeks, you may have no choice but to dump Poles, too. No quality choices want to sign on for a GM who's walking the plank.

I'm low key stunned that we are currently mired in a 7 game losing streak in year 3 of Poles.
No shade on the 49ers, they're a well coached football team who I wrongly underestimated. They dominated the game today, it wasn't close. When I picked the Bears to win, I was absolutely factoring in a sense that the randomization of outcomes in the NFL leads to even bad teams getting a win from time to time.
The Bears may not win another game this year, which would really be something for this GM. Regardless of all the contextualizing and excuses, we're talking about a team that rebuilt from the dirt over the last 2.5 years and right now looks like it's going backwards.

That was an ass kicking. Our problem isn't the players. Yes we have holes. No doubt. The problem is preparation and coaching. The Bears were out there running the wrong defense. They did nothing to try and confuse or attack Purdy and the Niner's offense. This whole coaching staff is terrible. I like Thomas Brown as a potential coach, but he's nowhere near ready to lead an entire football team.

Eberflus was a terrible choice. He assembled an absolute shit coaching staff. They don't have these players ready to go from week to the next. There is NO culture of winning. Dan Campbell went 4-12 or something like that in his first year. But he built a culture of winning and a winning mindset. Now his players are running through walls for him.WagonForce wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 8:58 pm I'm low key stunned that we are currently mired in a 7 game losing streak in year 3 of Poles.

Bears playing a road game in December trumps all that. They have sucked on the road for about 4 yrs. 9ers are not a bad team, just a beat up, injured team who is better coached than the Bears. Better O scheme with scrubs is much better than a haphazard scheme with decent players.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 8:35 pmReasons why folk might have thought the Bears had a chance:dplank wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 7:53 pm For the life of me I don't understand why so many thought we would win this game, that was never happening.

Despite the omnishambles of the first half and through the second two improvements were noticeable:
Ultimately they lost so badly due to poor game plans, particularly on defense, and several passes being dropped by their supposedly star receivers.
- Penalties.
The Bears did not commit a single pre-snap penalty, even more unusual given they were the visiting team, and only had 2 overall.
Those were a slightly unfortunate roughing the passer one where Taylor leapt to try to block a pass and came down on Purdy's head and a completely avoidable unnecessary roughness call on Tarvarius Moore for bumping into the punt returner after he'd signalled for a fair catch.
- Physicality.
The Bears were notably more physical, delivering bigger hits than we've seen of late.

I didn't really have any faith in TB going into this because
1. He was part of a shit staff which was put together by incompetence and he only ever got promoted by firings, in multiple places, not by being hired due to his merits.
2. He may have been better than the worst OC this year in Waldron, but he was doing some of the same dumb shit in his time play calling like 3-1/3-2 and doing drop backs instead of simple runs, failing to utilize the TE well either for helping a struggling line or helping CW, not committing to the run game early...just like his predecesser. Every game he has called we play like shit in the 1st half, make some adjustments, and Caleb plays hero ball to make it winnable...today he couldn't.
In the end I don't think Poles should be so safe because his philosophy for building the team has been ass-backwards from the start. To run a cover 2 scheme we have to have an excellent line. We have 1 good DE in Sweat, and a good overall player in Dexter, but I am not certain he really is a 3-tech. But we've dumped so many picks and Fa all into the DBs and LBs. And that ISN"T saying those aren't some good players, but the foundation of what that D need was not the primary focus, and it's showed. The same thing on the offense, all the focus is on skill players, and doing the O-line cheap except for Wright. When Poles got here JF was constantly under pressure, didn't fix it. Some might say he tried, but he tried on the cheap and went for trading for back-ups and cast aways, trying to make a 5th rounder play the premier line spot who it was clear after last year didn'thave the size and athleticism to do it consistently. Trading a 4th rounder for Allen who now leaves us in a position of spending big to keep an older WR with 2 other's, the effective 32 pick for Claypool who never hit 1000 yards with PIT, Velus Jones, Tyler Scott....I mean there were Olinemen who are starting who are better than ours currently abailable at the time those picks were used or traded. The focus on skill players over foundational players is backwards, and it isn't something that will be fixed in 1 year just by hiring Ben Johnson (who I want) unless we hit home runs using all 3 1st-3rd rounders and FA on linemne (both sides). That's asking to hit the inside straight. Yes the CW trade might go down in history as one of the best, but we caught some serious luck there as well, it wasn't pure strategy.
Ultimately, it's the curse of fucking nepotism which has been killing us. The MaCasky's suck as owners. They aren't qualified to run a football team, George would never be hired to even run consessions on any other franchise. He screws up over and over/ Let's go with Trestman over Arians b/c Arians is too demanding. Let's go with Matt Eberflus over Dan Quinn - since it's come out he was George's. Jim Harbaugh was apparently interested in the job last year but we can't entertain talking to him, he's difficult and demanding. George is impressed by a good chruch going family man with a nice slogan and handshake. All these years of dissapointment ultimately lie at his nepo-baby feet.
We got our guy in CW. We DO have some great skill players on both sides, but We have to get in an HC who knows how to build from the foundation of the lines up. If Poles can align with that, then fine. but if not he has to go too.
In the end I am pissed like all of you. We have talent, and the best QB to develop of our lifetimes, we just need some people running the team who aren't used car salesmen in drag as leaders.

Ok, so hang on while I blow my shit!
WTF was that? You have your opportunity and that's the fucking effort you get from your team? In one game you blew your opportunity, one fn game. That was a frickn embarrassment. The offense looked like high schoolers, and can we please hang on to the flippn ball for Christmas sake. Help the rookie out a bit, because he can't seem to figure out you can't sit in the pocket for 10 minutes. I said it with JF and I'm going to have to say it for CW, it's your FUCKING fault for 75% of the sacks. Jesus, put a fucking clock in your head. Do something, anything, before 10 seconds. Don't just sit there and stare down the field. The NFL doesn't allow for that, you have to have some pocket awareness and defensive recognition. Man, that was horrible.
Now, the defense. Is there a missing persons report out on Sweat? Wtf happened to this guy? Is it a take the money and run situation or what? I expected a bit of a drop off but wtf was that? The half time speech should have been COVER THE FUCKING TE please! My God, he singlehandedly beat our ass in the first half. If you can't figure that out, you have NO BUSINESS, calling yourself a DC. Really did anyone, I mean anyone, play well today, maybe average today? Hell I didn't see anyone.
One of the worst performances I have seen from the Bears in a very long time. No way I keep any of this staff. Start looking now McFuckups.

Nah dog, if you are looking at Caleb as the problem you ain't understanding what your watching. Yes, he sometimes holds too long, but he isn't holding too ling when Braxton is pushed back into him in 1.3 seconds, when Pryor or Shelton get blown past in under a second. Pocket awareness? Have you not seen him scrambling in the pocket, and then out of it over and over to keep plays alive because of his pocket awareness? He makes some mistakes, but the story is more that his protection and play calling have been shit. His pocket awareness has been what has made us able to sustasin drives and put us in a position to win multiple times this year.Hoog wrote: Sun Dec 08, 2024 9:50 pm Ok, so hang on while I blow my shit!
