Should Poles be putting feelers out there in regards to Marcus Freeman? He seems to check a lot of boxes
The guy has only been a HC for 3 yrs. I believe he just signed an extension and I believe it was for $9 mil at least. He has it really well right now and I do not think he would be interested at this time. Too many good things going for him in South Bend. He is approaching god status there.
I, for one, do not want a college coach around this team. I don't think Campbell, Iowa St coach, is really a serious candidate.
I get it when you talk about this being a harder division and maybe a coach wants to avoid that. However with a team that was falling apart we almost beat the Vike Packers and Lions in consecutive weeks. We did beat the Pack on the last week. Its not like wouldnt be competetive with some changes and a better coach. A good coach would see that and if he didnt he must not believe in himself.

Listen, take Matt Campbell seriously. I have had a man crush on this dude since he was our coach at Toledo. We sucked when he took over and he stayed and made them a consistent winner. He left for ISU, who was a shit show, and turned them into consistent winners. He turned Brock Purdy into a NFL winning QB, when he had no business doing so. His offense is innovative, he is a "leader" of men, and all he does is win win, win. He does all this in the middle of frickn cornfield and dry land. He doesn't get 5 star kids. He takes 3 stars and coaches them to exceed
expectations. He's still only 45 and has a very big list of accomplishments. He will crush the interview process. If we don't get Johnson or Vrabel, this is my guy.
That's the key. He gets his kids to (kind of) overperform...and outcoaches the guy on the opposite sideline. He has a very good football mind. As does David Shaw...but I think, at this point, he's going to have to go back to college to get a legit shot at the pros.

I'm not sure why everyone is assuming Carroll's guy would be Bevell. He fired the guy for a reason right? Pete was around the league for a million years and probably still has NCAA ties, too. He might have a more interesting idea.
Bevell was with Carroll for seven years and Pete didn't fire him because he wanted to, he fired him because he had to. The feeling was the coaching staff had started to grow stale and after 7 years some players, most notably Russell Wilson, had started to tune Bevell out. Carroll was incredibly supportive of Bevell even after replacing him. I read that Carroll has said that Bevell was the guy pounding the table for Wilson in the draft.
I would not be surprised if those two reunite at wherever the next stop is.

I swear with this process being so drawn out due to new rules, this is going to make my head explode. I have already changed my mind so many time on who I want.
I am currently in the HC with prior xp . Im wanting Vrabel after not wanting him. Im now ok and wouldnt be upset with Carol when I initially wanted nothing to do with him. Aruthur Smith is kind of a huge meh from me as I live in Atlanta and listened to sports talk shows his whole tenure.
Ben Johnson is who I really want but Im aware that he might not be strong enough.
Its all a crap shoot again
Take solace. It doesn't matter who you want. What will happen will happen.

I'm saying... if things don't work out with Ben Johnson, I have no problem having Pete Caroll lead us for the next 4-5 years while he grooms an up-and-coming OC to take over.
He can do the heavy lifting with "culture" and all that crap while the kid learns on the job.

Question becomes: who is that person?
When does this ever work though?
It doesn't but what else is there to think about for the next 3 weeks

Hoge & Jahns had Mike Sando on their podcast today - really good interview about Pete Carroll and the Bears interviewing process. Stick around after the interview for some Todd Monken content. The Monkmentum is real. #TeamMonken
An hour of Todd Monken shooting the shit talking about his coaching past, philosophies, growing up the son of a coach, and a hell of a lot more. (including an amazing Lou Holtz story).
Shane Waldron offense in Seattle was top 10 in EPA (it dropped to 18th this year).
I guess my concern is that Carroll is going to install another guy like Waldron, who is programmed to take the reins in a fews years.
Look at what happened to Waldron when he didn't have Carroll and his staff to support him.
Yes, but as counterpoint -
Look what happened to Nagy when he didn't have Reid to support him.
But if Reid wanted to coach here, you wouldn't decline because one of his underlings flopped, would you?

Feels like, now that they've fired their GM, maybe the Raiders are trying to make themselves a contender for one of the presumed top two candidates. Johnson and Vrabel were the only two rumored to want to bring a personnel guy with them - the Raiders can now offer that. Really no reason to fire the GM there other than to offer it up as a selling point to whoever their top candidate is.
With their roster and no legit QB to offer the Raiders need as many selling points as they can dig up.
I think I have been calling for David Shaw for about a decade. Glad we giving him an interview. Hopefully, we pull the trigger. This is still my number one guy.
I don't want him as a head coach... but hear me out:
What if this is to gauge his interest in being an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for an offensive minded head coach? Say it's Ben Johnson, you'll have someone who has experience being a coach (and player) for the Chicago Bears, someone who has had elite success in Chicago, someone who has 211 games of experience as a head coach in the league.
I mean, fuck. If the game hasn't passed him by, I would love him as DC and Assistant Head Coach... wouldn't have to change much of our scheme, either.

Johnson as head coach and Rivera as defensive coordinator would be about as close to perfect as I can imagine.
