Interesting about Brady and the Saints as he was a coach on the 2019 LSU team which won the national championship. They're not a bad organization.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 9:21 pm So a quick round up:

Saints are a Cap mess right now and have been. Loomis loves to kick the can to win now. He did it too many years running with Brees and Co. As an prospective HC hiree, it is not a great situation to go into. Especially for a first time HC. Saints are better off with a older retread HC looking to continue coaching. McCarthy comes to mind.Grizzled wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 8:37 amInteresting about Brady and the Saints as he was a coach on the 2019 LSU team which won the national championship. Bears are actually dating the Prom Queen, who would have thought it?

Hopefully Johnson's hire pans out and results in games won.

Prime Jerry when asked how Cowboy fans' reactions to his recent hire make him feel:
"There's a very low percentage of this that is smiles and glory holes. Very low percentage."
I don't miss not living in Texas and not hearing his crap daily.

To be fair, he's an oil guy and that's an old oilfield phrase.Grizzled wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 1:28 pm Prime Jerry when asked how Cowboy fans' reactions to his recent hire make him feel:

The Lions are hiring the Broncos passing game coordinator John Morton to replace Ben Johnson as their OC according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
Morton was the Lions' senior offensive assistant in 2022, so he's familiar to Campbell and the team.
It will be interesting to see how he fares especially given the Bears opted for the TE coach from the same team to be their OC.

Never heard that from oilfield guys before but I didn't work in the industry. To me, I've only heard of glory holes in one respect.wab wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 1:30 pmTo be fair, he's an oil guy and that's an old oilfield phrase.Grizzled wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 1:28 pm Prime Jerry when asked how Cowboy fans' reactions to his recent hire make him feel:

Mike McCarthy has also pulled out of consideration for the Saints job! Apparently he has decided against coaching in 2025.
The Saints remaining options are:
Kellen Moore
Darren Rizzi
Anthony Weaver
Mike Kafka

@dplank's favourite former Bears DC is back in the NFL!
Chuck Pagano has been hired by the Ravens to be their senior secondary coach. He hasn't coached since he left the Bears 5 years ago.

I'm surprised woeful openings don't get this sort of embarrassing treatment more often.
I guess there's always someone vaguely credible who's desperate or willing to make 9 figures for a miserable experience.
(No the Saints aren't a typical dysfunctional franchise, but I think the walls are slowly, slowly closing in and squeezing the life out of them with their ongoing cap nonsense.)

Sounds like it's between Kellen Moore and Darren Rizzi. It wouldn't surprise me if they just give Rizzi one more year to unofficially tank and clear contracts so they can be a little more desirable in 2026.

This would actually be the best scenario for the Saints. They are so messed up from the Payton/Brees era still haunting them. Restructuring contracts every year just to get under the cap creates compounded future problems. They need to do a Raiders move and just suck for two years to get out from under all those bad contract moves.wab wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 3:35 pm Sounds like it's between Kellen Moore and Darren Rizzi. If I were a Saints fan, I'd be begging the GM to blow it up and start over. That team is going nowhere, they need to tank and get a high pick to have a new franchise QB to build around, at which point they can get a top tier HC to come. Clearly no one wants the job right now - someone will take it because it's 1/32 in the world, but you don't want the leftovers. Sounds exactly like our situation a few years ago., but Mickey Loomis is a stubborn SOB so I don't know that he'll do it.Shadow wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 2:43 pmThis would actually be the best scenario for the Saints. And they had the perfect head coach option available to them. One who's already been through just such a tear down and rebuild and held it altogether for a couple of lost seasons before getting jettisoned and replaced by a hotshot young coordinator. Now what was that fellow's name? Everflubs or something wasn't it?dplank wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 8:36 amIf I were a Saints fan, I'd be begging the GM to blow it up and start over. Yeah that guy's pretty much tops in the NFL in tearing down an organization.HisRoyalSweetness wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:21 pmAnd they had the perfect head coach option available to them. Having been interviewed by the hated Packers Eric Washington is reportedly being hired by Aaaron Glen and joining the Jets as their DL coach.

Sounds like the Saints are working out the details to make Kellen Moore the HC.
Not having a staff in place before the senior bowl is going to put them behind quite a bit.

Bit early to tank isn’t it?
Taking a break from screen time for Lent. Wish me luck.
