Ice was good to me today, limit of walleyes and perch, home by noon. 30 degrees felt tropical after the last two weeks of -25.

For each hunting post here I'm going to match you with a colonoscopy / butthole post. Fair is fair. Fishing posts will get a free pass, however.

I could have given you a free colonoscopy pic but they didn’t let me take one. But on the bright side, at least I don’t need that again for another 10 years.

Warm weather has ended ice fishing here. Time to get the boat and kayaks ready, maybe sneak in a snow goose hunt.

Might have to spend a couple days snow/blue goose hunting as the spring conservation season is on and the warm temps have them close to migrating through. Make some snow goose pastrami.

Well, it’s on to fishing season in the open water. Geese have migrated north and the ice is off the lakes.

Bass fishing in the Chicago River. For those not aware, the river was pretty much an open sewer while I was growing up. It was cleaned up under EPA guidelines, hopefully these are not rolled back. Des Plaines River, other polluted waters also in much better shape:

I was at Scheels yesterday (for those of you not aware, it's paradise). Wandering through the store and my 16yr old daughter looks at me and says "we should go fishing". So we bought a couple of poles and are heading out to the lake next Sunday.

Yep, get out there and go. Find somewhere the bite is good.

I used to fish all the time, but as I got older I had less friends that were into it and my kids never seemed to be interested until now. So I'm happy to get back out there.

Pond, lake, or river? Lots of choices. Some big-ass bass and catfish in Texas.

Probably the pond near the house at first, but we have a ton of really big lakes near us too.

So my daughter's new boyfriend, Gavin, is a super kid and a hustler. He found an ER doctor that had 1500 acres that he wanted someone living out there and somewhat managing it (has a nice hunting lodge (deer and turkey no ducks sadly) the doctors "get away" house that is off the charts and a small that Gavin stays at.

We went out yesterday and drove around on the side by side as he showed us around. Deer stands everywhere and we came across a huge pond. I asked if he fished it and he said he did and asked if I wanted to stop and fish for a bit. So we pulled over and he had two rods in the back I hadn't notice and we fished for about 30 minutes as we talked. We got done and my daughter talked about how the place Gavin lived in wasn't anything fancy, but if they got married she was more than happy to live there to have access to everything. The place was amazing and it's hard to argue with what she was saying.

Love pond fishing, there are 3 near where I live. Delaware River although I haven't fished it yet. Many creeks with trout, some with smallmouths.

Yeah we have a TON of bass here. Lots of big national bass tournaments here too...so a lot of the lakes get over-fished, but the ponds and such are usually pretty good for just having a fun time.

We have a big man lake they just drained and are in year 2 of a 5 year project to make it be a destination to fish at.

Holy shit!! We are getting plenty of rain today. We need it though so it is OK.

Love South Dakota. Been there twice within the past 6 yrs or so. I think I could visit every year to be honest.

We needed the moisture here and it’s been a very light winter so not much to complain about. It will be gone by Sunday.
