I read a synopsis of the books before watching the show ... and I am hooked on the show
very well cast IMO ... and very well played by all
I even think the opening puzzle cities and theme music are cool

I've been hooked since I watched season 1. I've got season 2 on my computer and after the season 2 finale, I'll rewatch them all and do a comprehensive breakdown of the season. I'm almost finished with book 5, too.

so since you're actually reading the books, how faithful is the show to the story?
comparing the synopsis I read to the story the show weaves leaves me feeling perhaps more than 1 book was used for season 1

Here's a recent post I told a kid from a band forum that answers that:Boris13c wrote:so since you're actually reading the books, how faithful is the show to the story?

The major problem also is that book 2, of all the books, is easily the most boring. The battle which occurs in the latest fantastic episode spans the final fifth of the book and it's such a relief when it happens because the previous thousand-whatever of pages was all a bunch of tedious moving of the pieces across the board and character development.UOK wrote:I didn't. I watched the whole first season with no notion of the first book at all. Book 1/A Game of Thrones is basically the entire season of the show verbatim. In fact the book didn't actually have enough resource material to fill out a 10-episode season, so they had to bleed a bit of the 2nd book in as well as write up new scenes.Should I read the books before watching?
In fact, that's part of what's made the second season very difficult to watch at times. Without giving too much away, Book 2/A Clash of Kings is twice the size of Book 1, and most of the time is spent on introducing new characters and areas, developing every character we've met, new and old, and saving all the major action for the last 100 pages or so of the novel (which outside of book 3 is a pretty common trend in the series). The writers of GoT the HBO Series have gone from creating new material to fill out a season to cutting incredible boatloads of details and side characters as well as changing motivations just to get the entire book 2 story to fit within the constraints of 10 episodes.
There's been a handful of times this past season where that's really hurt certain storylines (cough, Daenarys, cough).
This season was always going to feel strained at times, and was at best a way for the producers to prove they could take bloated boring resource material and glean a fairly exciting television season from it, which on the whole I felt they did.
That being said, seasons 3 and 4 of the show are going to be incredible. They're splitting book 3 across those seasons, and justifiably so - book 3, A Storm of Swords is easily the best book in the series and SO MUCH STUFF happens. It's going to make for some fantastic TV.

very cool ... and yes, they did an awesome job on Season 2, though I did not know in advance about the tedious book issue ... though it makes sense with so many characters coming together that it would take time for character development in book form
now I can look forward to good things still to come in this series

so Season 3 is going to begin with a zombie apocalypse attacking The Wall and the cute little blonde running amok with her dragons ... cool

*gulp* I really hope limewire or other similar file-sharing isn't what you're referencing. They may as well call those sites, InstallVirusesForFree.comgaba wrote:There are a couple places you can find this stuff online without torrenting. It might not be appropriate to post the links but I'd be happy to point you in the right direction if you PM me.

Eh as long as you have an ad-blocker and can tolerate occasionally low-res version of the videos than you're good. Vureel.com's where I watched pretty much all of Breaking Bad season 4, it's fairly reliable.gaba wrote:I'm not familiar with limewire. I'm just talking about link posts and streaming sites. Go ahead and tell me how much I shouldn't be doing that too.

PM's probably the best way to go.gaba wrote:I'm a little reluctant to share though. Seems like every time I talk about a site it gets shut down.
If you are, however, interested in learning how to torrent, I will gladly help. Just pm if you're interested.

yes it is ... and I credit the casting ... each actor plays their role with the perfect balance of good or evil as required ... you don't see them as actors, you see them as their character only, living their role as if they were born to
