I love Election Day. I get such a profound feeling of citizenship and nothing makes me prouder to be an American than going to the polls. Staying up and watching the returns is better than a football game.

I was 6 when Kennedy beat Nixon, and can remember my dad watching the results on election night. I didn't really understand, but knew it was something important.

I'll be at work all f**king day today until 10pm, so I'll be praying for people's cable not to go out tonight as the results are coming in from around 8-10pm, it'll probably be a 10 or 11pm before anyone can safely announce a president, so once I'm off work I'm streaking home to consume liberal amounts of booze, either in celebration or depression.

I just got back from voting. A pretty large crowd for 8 AM, but no waiting, really .... just the check-in process.

Feels good.

Mine took no time at all. There were barely any lines and none at all at my check-in table. In and out in about 5 minutes.

I was actually kind of hoping for a line. First, because it really was disappointingly fast. For the last several months this has been built up and hyped as the most important thing we'll ever do and for me it only lasted a couple minutes. Mostly though, because that would indicate a strong voter turn out, which in my district means poor people are voting in large numbers (good for my guy). Springfield's not a real big town though. Bigger than I'm used to since I've always voted in Willard (population approximately 2,000) but it wouldn't even be a large suburb of a town like St. Louis or Chicago. Our little town of 150,000 managed to find 40,000 people willing to wait in line all day to see Obama though.

I waited about an hour.

The best part of my experience was the Republican running for the house seat in my district was there shaking hands. One woman looked at him, and as she shook his hand, said to him, "I'm still voting against you!"

I practically crapped myself from laughter!

These are reports on numbers from Indiana, a Ruby-red jewel of the GOP. Obama's #'s vs. Kerry's 2004 numbers:

Steuben: Kerry 34%, Obama 42%
DeKalb: Kerry 31%, Obama 38%
Knox: Kerry 36%, Obama 54%
Marshall: Kerry 31%, Obama 50%

If somehow Obama managed to steal Indiana, there's not much hope for a McCain/Palin ticket anywhere else.

9% of precincts reporting in KY (only polls that have closed in KY are the eastern time zones) 51% Mccain 48% Obama...another red state that is a bit close for comfort.

We're not even to the west coast and Obama's projected to have 200 electoral votes already. This could be a slaughter.

I hope so UOK. Just winning isn't enough. The republican party is supposed to represent about half of the population and they need to realize that they are NOT doing a good job.

Does anyone else get a gameday feeling from this. I always vote but I've never felt that it was quite this important before. I've got a couple maps going, the TV on CBS (Mmmm... Katie) and of course you guys. I wonder if anyone's on the monstershow.

I've been pumping my fist at work when I saw the touchdowns of Ohio and Pennsylvania. It's so fantastic to watch the McCain celebration camp all kinda hang their heads. Let the GOP Bitching begin!

As I said in the old forums mamabear, when you listed the things that were important to you it sounded like you were pretty close to being a democrat. After a year or so, I dont know if you'll change parties- but I bet you change your mind about our new president.

Rump, lol- I'm glad it was easy for you. It IS easier, however, to fully appreciate something when you have to travel farther for it.

I think I'm going to shave the Obama campaign logo in it as a celebratory gesture. Stay tuned.
