So I've made an executive decision - no politics.
We've kind of gently tolerated political threads for years, but with the current political climate and hostility in the ol' US of A, I'm not going to permit any thread that is about domestic or international politics. Any thread I see that appears to be of a political nature, even if it's in good taste or has a good heart behind it, can't do it. Gonna be locked.
Our forum was born of the 2008 presidential election causing poisonous arguments so toxic that BFO's founding fathers made the pilgrimage to this place. I don't want anything like that here.
If you'd like to talk politics or current affairs of a political nature, there are literally thousands, if not millions, of internet venues for you to do so.
Political Threads: No Dice.

From the ashes, a phoenix did arise. As we four pioneers trudged across the internet wasteland to colonize a new home.

What about "Political News"? I previously posted a thread about Bowe Bergdahl that is world news and has very political implications.
There is also the Bradley Mannings sentence thing combined with Assange legal issues. That's a big story but also very political.

I'd say if it feels controversial it's not worth posting here.mmmc_35 wrote:What about "Political News"? I previously posted a thread about Bowe Bergdahl that is world news and has very political implications.

I'm glad for this; I despise politics. Too often if 'you' want to discuss politics, what 'you're' really saying is that you want to jam 'your' slanted political opinion down someone else's throat. There is no discussion. There is no expectation of compromise. There is only whether or not 'your' side is victorious in the political scrum, and the if 'you' lose, how that can be spun to look the least damaging while at the same time finding some basis to blame the other side for being amoral.
I will kill you if you cut me at the knees. You will drink with me when invited and stay til I say so. We only listen to American Music. I make men nervous with just my presence. I expect an apology if you hold. I throw linemen at QB's. Believe the Lore!

Was political discourtesy a problem?

That is such a sad thing. As a nation we have to learn to practice civil discourse - how to look for common ground, how to agree to disagree. A functional democracy requires participation beyond simply voting every four years.

Ok, so let's not make the "no political threads" thread the political thread.

Yeah...I think my post, in response to the Las Vegas shooting, was a little politically charged. Sorry about that. Didn't mean to dump my laundry on the site.
I'm all for the rule. I get enough of that shit through the news.

It's a slippery slope, I get passionate about this shit too because in my mind it is so simple to fix but Republicans in office seem to value $$$ over lives of innocent Americans.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote:Yeah...I think my post, in response to the Las Vegas shooting, was a little politically charged. it still baffles me to this day how that site went from a pretty good place to hang out to a complete argumentative hate filled abomination
so glad the splinter cell broke off to create this place ... and that was pretty much done in response to a child like "if you don't like it here, go make your own site" statement from the village idiot
so thanks again to Xee, UOK and everyone else who made that happen

My first post in this "lounge" has to give credit to this thoughtful entry. Very well stated.pus wrote:That is such a sad thing. I read a few months back something by someone far smarter than me... Those who have entirely opposing political points of view have vastly more in common than not. We are human beings after all. If you gave this point a little thought, it really resonates. Too bad many passionate political types don't consider this.
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Just curious, did a lot if BFO posters come from the now defunct CBMB?wab wrote:It's dead, no longer in existence (your welcome internet), and one best not memorialized.Decatur Staley wrote:What was the previous forum ya'll keep referring to?

I think a fair amount, maybe? BFO's kind of a mashup of maybe 7 or 8 different forums.malagabears wrote:Just curious, did a lot if BFO posters come from the now defunct CBMB?wab wrote:It's dead, no longer in existence (your welcome internet), and one best not memorialized.Decatur Staley wrote:What was the previous forum ya'll keep referring to?
