Hey... here's a boring and super tired cliche'd take. lol

When you have a rotating door of failing QB play. It is difficult (impossible) to sustain long-term success in this league.

Not all that much headache in trying to keep one guy under contract, performing well (at a position with great longevity potential) and healthy. Making him the base of your team.

As opposed to keeping an entire unit of guys under contract, performing well (at positions with a better chance of flaming out quickly than sustaining longevity) and healthy. Trying to keep them all together as the base of your team.

But until we get that position right. That's what we'll continue to have. These one year flare up seasons. Windows opening for only a split second before slamming shut.

I've got to say. 2014 was still the worst Bears season of my lifetime, IMO. For reasons that transcended just the play on the field. However, this has possibly been the most devastating. Being assured that we have once again swung/missed at that position. It's just... hard to deal with.

You just want to think that you can't keep missing... but we do. You would think by f'n accident we would have stumbled ass backwards into just a "good" QB by now. Nope.

Oh, and do you know what's extra special about this year's failure to make it back to the post-season?

The defense is #1 in scoring and #1 in yards per play allowed. Despite being on the field so much? We still only drop to #3 in total yards.

Yet, we're 4-6. It's really hard to be #1 in scoring defense and have your season be over after 10 games.

That is tough to swallow.

Lost games (and the season) when the defense allowed 10, 17, and 17. It's just sickening.

7-3 if you could muster up just 18 points on a weekly basis.

In today's NFL? Like you say, sickening.

The only silver lining? Is that you know if you can keep this D together and performing for another season. It's not going to take much to get us back into the mix in the NFC.

We just need to play in the HOF game in the preseason every year. Look it up.

Ahhhh the flood of memories this brings back. Surprisingly a lot more good ones than bad. Although the article just goes to show that the McCaskey's should sell the team.

They could quite realistically be 9-1 with just a reasonably competent offense.

So Mrs. Five and I are in Best Buy today and just mesmerized by the color produced by a 75" Samsung TV with "Q70" technology. (The 65" model was on sale for $1200.) We're doing Q&A with the sales guy and the Samsung rep and they're explaining the smart TV features, voice remote and options. Samsung rep ends with, "this TV can do anything".

Mrs. Five: "Can it make the Bears play better?"

(We didn't buy it, but were quite tempted.)
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.
