Yeah, it's early. I'm off today and bored, so I took a quick run through. Sue me.

Classic

27: R1 P27 OT Jalen Mayfield - Michigan
I've been hungering for Massie to go, but the way Leno has been playing...
Either way.

59: R2 P27 C Josh Myers - Ohio State

Back to G for Whitehair and bench or byebye for Ifedi

90: R3 P26 WR Tamorrion Terry - Florida State
Not sure exactly where to put him, but WR needs help and this was the best available and best size/speed candidate (even if it is heavier on the size than speed)

168: R5 P27 ILB Garret Wallow - TCU
First go at an obvious sore spot with a fast guy

206: R6 P27 QB K.J. Costello - Mississippi State
Trask was gone by 27. Lance wasn't, but I pretended he was, because he will be.

217: R6 P38 TE Zach Davidson - Central Missouri St
Everybody loves giant TEs from small schools, right? Hopefully Graham can tutor him on using his size in the redzone.

221: R6 P42 DL Isaiahh Loudermilk - Wisconsin
Tons of FAs on the line. Feels like a lesser Urban.

229: R7 P6 ILB Paddy Fisher - Northwestern
Second go at the position with a college star with speed questions. None of the current backups should really be on the roster next year, even if Trevathan is contractually guaranteed to stay.

This one is QB R1 instead of OT.
I keep trying to manage QB, RT, and C in the first 3, but it just doesn't quite work.

20: R1 P20 QB Zach Wilson - BYU
52: R2 P20 C Josh Myers - Ohio State
83: R3 P19 WR Tamorrion Terry - Florida State
161: R5 P20 C/G Landon Dickerson - Alabama
199: R6 P20 ILB Garret Wallow - TCU
217: R6 P38 RT Spencer K Brown - Northern Iowa
221: R6 P42 TE Zach Davidson - Central Missouri St
229: R7 P6 NT Naquan Jones - Michigan State

We are getting shorted on late picks in this mock, but I don't know things deep enough to make 6-7 of them anyway.

Can you tell I've lost interest in this season?

https://www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com/

Only 1 ranking set, but it's decent for this time of year.
Does allow trades (free!), but you have to restrain yourself not to make them overly generous.

-----------------
Traded down a few in R1 to go up in R2 and add a few late picks (but still fewer than we should have, once comps are official).

22
Round: 1
Bears Kyle Trask QB | Florida Florida TRADE

34
Round: 2
Bears Jalen Mayfield OT | Michigan Michigan TRADE

80
Round: 3
Bears Trey Hill C/G | Georgia Georgia
Did get QB/OT/C by trading. Not fully sold on Hill being a great C, but Hill/Whitehair has to be better than Whitehair/Ifedi

144
Round: 5
Bears Garret Wallow ILB | TCU TCU
Even with Trevathan improving, no depth at all

176
Round: 6
Bears Elijah Mitchell RB | Louisiana-Lafayette Louisiana-Lafayette
If Nagy is back (bleah), I'm sure he'd never use him, but...

194
Round: 7
Bears Ronnie Bell WR | Michigan Michigan TRADE
speed

216
Round: 7
Bears Naquan Jones DL | Michigan Michigan TRADE
lots of DL free agents this offseason

Still the same general theme:
Do as much as possible with QB/OT/C in the first 3 rounds. All 3 are 'maybes' to have a good enough player for the position/round.
Get some depth at a couple defensive positions, maybe future starters if you're lucky.
Try to sprinkle in some (usually fast) WR/HB/TE depth that might help

Did some trades to produce all the late comp picks we're expected to get.

16
Round: 1
Bears Kyle Trask QB | Florida Florida

48
Round: 2
Bears Liam Eichenberg OT | Notre Dame Notre Dame

80
Round: 3
Bears Landon Dickerson C/G | Alabama Alabama

144
Round: 5
Bears Kenny Yeboah TE | Mississippi Mississippi
Smaller TE with solid speed, who projects as a backup pass catching TE

162
Round: 6
Bears Javian Hawkins RB | Louisville Louisville
Super fast, but not nearly as tiny as Tarik. Could replace him, due to injury or costs and be more rounded/versatile/complete.

Round: 6
Bears Thayer Munford G/T | Ohio State Ohio State
High physical upside, needs more technique work.

Round: 6
Bears Garret Wallow ILB | TCU TCU
S turned WLB has speed and understands coverage. Will need to adapt to ILB, but has the size, and Roqan & Trevathan are locked in for 1 & 2 more years.

Round: 6
Bears Lorenzo Neal (Jr) DL | Purdue Purdue
Big with bloodlines. Coming back slowly off 2019 injury.

Round: 6
Bears T.J. Vasher WR | Texas Tech Texas Tech
At worst, taller than Wims, with possibly some upside.

Round: 7
Bears Dustin Crum QB | Kent State
Big arm and great numbers against little schools.

A lot to like if the draft unfolds like this. Doubling up at QB is my favorite. I like loading up at several positions on OL. The only pick I'm not big on is the TE, I'd rather see them take a flier on a speed WR.
Drafts are like snowflakes, no two are alike.

I'd prefer that, too, but not seeing a lot of speed receivers and 80% of what there is are munchkins that are even smaller than Mooney.
I take the Michigan kid a lot in late rounds, because he's one of the few options available.

After combine, we'll see if there's any more speed lying around.

First Mock
Interesting site, in that it proposes trades to you and you can offer them, too.
Theirs are a bit plentiful and generous, though.
Also, the site UI is clumsy and they don't show you ALL the players still available, just the top ones at the position(s) you choose.

Your Picks:
Round 1 Pick 16: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida (B)
Round 2 Pick 22 (T.B.): Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame (A)
Round 3 Pick 15: AmonRa St Brown, WR, USC (A+)
Round 3 Pick 30 (CLE): Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama (A-)
Round 4 Pick 19 (CLE): Charlie Kolar, TE, Iowa State (A+)
Round 5 Pick 16: Cole Van Lanen, OT, Wisconsin (A+)
Round 6 Pick 24 (CLE): Garret Wallow, ILB/OLB, TCU (A+)
Round 6 Pick 27 (LAC): Max Duffy, P, Kentucky (B-)
Round 7 Pick 8: Theo Howard, WR, Oklahoma (A+)
Round 7 Pick 22 (T.B.): Naquan Jones, DT, Michigan State (A+)
Round 7 Pick 32 (T.B.): Tory Carter, FB/RB, LSU (B+)

(It also "grades" your pick, but their grades seem fairly worthless)

My results, in case anyone cares.

-----------

P#016. Travis Etienne - RB, Clemson
WHY:
I know it seems ludicrous, but I hate drafting for need. Etienne's running style reminds me of Walter Payton. He's so fluid and athletic, and since this isn't a great QB draft, you're going to really need to rely on the running game, and build around somebody special in that regard. I feel like the Bears could easily flip Montgomery or to a lesser possibility Cohen for a conditional '22 pick and use whoever stays as a backup/swing back.

-----------

P#048. Aidan Hutchinson - EDGE, Michigan
WHY:
Once again, not drafting for need. Hutchinson can ball. He's a disruptor, and if he's not creating pressure on quarterbacks, he has a great sense of timing and use of his size to deflect passes or otherwise make plays on the ball. From a Bears perspective, with Robert Quinn being a loaf of expensive dead weight that you have to eat for at least a year, the Bears need actual production alongside Mack in what would probably be his final year on the Bears, barring a major resurgence from the team record-wise in 2021 (which I don't see happening). Hutchinson would potentially be a useful supplement in a fledgling pass rush.

-----------

P#079. Andre Cisco - S, Syracuse
WHY:
Tashaun Gipson was a useful and above average strong safety, but he serves the minimum of what you want from your starter. Cisco could come in and be a more free-wheeling Strong, and if you watch his tape his expertise is timing and technique with his hits. He's quick to read underneath plays and time his shoulder hits with the receivers. This defense absolutely requires playmakers on the ball to give an offense that most certainly will be in a weird place next season all the opportunities it can to succeed/grow.

-----------

P#156. Tyler Vrabel - OT, Boston College
WHY:
Because if I went through this draft without taking an offensive lineman, dplank would come burn my house down. Plus the Bears need to treat the tackle position like quarterback - draft one every year. Always. Big dude, 6'5" 300+. Work with that. He's not Rashaad Coward, so instant upgrade.

-----------

P#193. Kellen Mond - QB, Texas A&M
WHY:
I'm not sure if Mond would be available here or if this is a massive reach, but of the scrub late-round quarterbacks available at this position, Mond is the only one I saw who had an NFL arm. Decision making and ball placement seem very crisp. He's a pretty good athlete too, and playing behind what surely will be a mostly bad offensive line, the Bears would need a guy who can scramble on 3 out of every 5 passing snaps. Even if he turns out to be nothing, the Bears need to start seriously committing to annually drafting a passer until they find a legitimate star.

-----------

P#215. Talanoa Hufanga - S, USC
WHY:
When I reached this pick I didn't see much in the way of worthwhile talent, so Hufanga would be somebody I'd invest in as a special teams contributor. The Bears had a lot of hopes that Joel Iyiegbuniwe would be that guy, but he's proven to be a non-factor, particularly on special teams.

-----------

P#220. Noah Gray - TE, Duke
WHY:
Ass end of the draft here, and with some of the tape I watched, Grey was the only one he seemed to have value to offer. He runs good routes, seems to consistently bring the ball down. 6'4" 240+ athlete would be the heir apparent to Jimmy Graham, who more than likely would be cut this offseason to open up a lot of cap space to fill other voids in the roster, namely offensive tackle and likely quarterback.

R1 - OT Christian Darrisaw 6’5 314
LT is a need for now and the future. He has been moving up the boards.

R2 - C/G Josh Myers 6’5 314
He is a center and could anchor the line for some time. It’s early to take a center but what the heck.

R3 - DT Tyler Shelvin 6’3 346
Dude has some size, depending if the bears are still playing 3-4 defense.

R5 - QB Dustin Crum 6’3 205
Hey, we need someone to back up big D*ck nick.

I only did 5 rounds on the simulator. Quite frankly, Crum may be there later but it’s a guy I like. My entire vision is to improve the line and gain size on both sides. The trenches are where the games are won or lost. Call me old school, but hey.

Darrisaw may be a good solid pick and may move up on charts quite a bit. I don’t know a ton about the linemen yet as a group, so wouldn’t be mad if it was a different guy. But just feel this is a critical position that needs attention. It will help now and the future. I feel you build with guys in the trenches and then go for the skill positions. Myers will also fill a need and having 3 guys that can play in the middle can’t hurt. I really like Crum as a mid to late round QB. It won’t be a big investment with that kind of pick, but has a chance to be rewarded. This strategy could work for now and the future.

https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft/

Found this site which seems to have the best interface I've found for mocks. Super quick processing it you choose the "Fast" setting. I'm doing just 3 rounds for now.

I got an offer of 27 and 33 for 14 which I took.
27: Joseph Ossai - LB/EDGE - Texas
Profiles as either a 3-4 OLB or perhaps a Rosey Colvin type, WILL in base 4-3 who bumps to end in a sub package. I'll accept that versatility. Productive rusher. Good athleticism. Probably a top 5 pass rusher in the draft- in that 2nd teir.

33: Rashawn Slater - G/T. Northwestern
Short arms will hurt his stock and make some consider him a IOL only. Still, has a shot to stick outside. Part of my calculus at 27 was there were a handful of good looking OL still there, so I figured I'd have good options at 33. And Slater seems like a good option there.

48: Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
Ended up being a tough spot in this particular draft. There was some consideration of Mac Jones or Kyle Trask here for one. But overall I felt Harris provided the most valuable. He's a top 3 RB in the draft and could make a case for RB1 (though I wouldn't go that high). Still at 50, gives the Bears a strong runner to pair with Montgomery and eventually become the bell cow.

78: Kellen Mond - QB - Texas A&M
This was the last spot to get a QB that wasn't a total lottery ticket IMO. A bit of a reach according to the big board, but it's worth the risk. Mond has been inconsistent in the past and probably has a lot of good traits without any standout trait. He'll probably get a lot of Dak Prescott comps, fwiw. Not a terrible comp as far as comps go.

This I would like. Bears could add a Guard, and plug a few holes in FA and try and keep Robinson (doubt he will resign) and be moving in right direction. Might not make them contenders off the bat, but would set them up for the future.

Also very solid, wish the draft was this easy. Lol
Yep. Makes it easy to bitch about the GM and claim you understand the job so much better lol
Isn’t it though? Lmao.
Though everything looks good on paper before they play an actual NFL game or injuries pile up.

I just did a few of these mocks with the trade thing, there may be several guys where the bears pick that may be worth another team trading up for. Feel the Bears really should look to that as an option. Wouldn’t want to move back more than 5-8 positions, but if they could get another early pick or one for next season... these are fun sites to play with anyway. Just a shame we are already doing them in week 12 :(

Kyle Trask QB | Florida Florida

53
Round: 2
Dillon Radunz OT | North Dakota State North Dakota State TRADE

TRADEd down slightly, as there were 2 OTs still on the board. Got a 4 and a couple late, re TRADEd the 4 for a 5 and a couple more late

Still badly underranked on this board, might last to this point

Speed receiver with low-average size

141
Round: 5
Cory Durden E | Florida State Florida State

Fills the RRH vacany

176
Round: 6
Javian Hawkins RB | Louisville Louisville

Fast, only slightly small. Gets Patterson's roster spot

195
Round: 6

Assuming Skrine cut and Vildor promoted to NB, this gives a big CB backup to pair with tiny CB backup Shelley

200
Round: 6

Fast ILB gets 1-2 yrs to intern

213
Round: 6
Austin Watkins Jr WR | UAB UAB TRADE

I was reading about that Schwartz guy. Fast might be an understatement, at least in testing terms. Sounds like he could break all time combine numbers.

Now whether he's football fast or not....

Is your Schwartz as big as mine?

Got a few of my former picks in there. I'm not a fan of Trask and Walker is a gamble, but a potentially worthwhile one. Sterns and Sanborn are my "go-to" picks in late rounds. Tylan Wallace seems interesting, but I got poor man's Anthony Miller vibes.

Tell me about Patterson, Meyers, and Jones.

--------

Did another mock, this time trading down numerous times early, not so much as to believe it would actually happen, but more to familiarize myself with the field.

48. Jalen Mayfield, OT - Michigan: Young, raw talent with tremendous athleticism and size. Could play either side. Too much potential to leave on the board, and happens to be at a position of great need.

50. Chazz Surratt, LB - UNC: I glowed about Surratt last year before he decided to return to the Tar Heels. He reminds me a lot of Myles Jack and Jabril Peppers, kind of LB/S hybrids who you can plug in play in coverage or unleash them as missiles in a blitz. Feels like a dynamic, unique talent that would add a fun and useful element to an aging Bears defense.

51. Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR - USC: I was torn between St. Brown and Tylan Wallace, but St. Brown seems like more of a useful fit. Great length, nimble feet, strong enough to be consistently separated. The offense probably won't have Allen Robinson next season, and St. Brown seems like a nice option to vie to fill that role eventually.

78. Rasheed Walker, OT - Penn State: 6'6" 320 pounds with a lot of praise about veteran technique in a guy who's only started a dozen-odd games, Walker, like Mayfield before him, is another slab of beef who has a tremendous amount of upside. This was a BPA pick for me, and once again, suited a position the Bears are woefully thin at.

94. Kolby Harvell-Peel, S - OKST: This guy reminds me of Mike Brown. I watched the tape and kept seeing #30 for the Bears. Sold.

113. Desmond Ridder, QB - Cincinnati: QB options were drying up and I didn't want to take a practice squadder later in the draft. Ridder intrigues me because his arm is pretty solid, but the accuracy is top-notch. Great size, 6'4" 215lb, and has a knack for nuances of the position that sometimes are never developed or ingrained. Deep ball is extremely impressive.

140. Drake Jackson, C - Kentucky: I had a few options here, and Jackson intrigued me because of his potential. The Bears feel like a solid fit for him, because Daniels, Whitehair, and Mustipher are all potentially your centers/backups for next year, but Jackson gives you a true C that you can groom as a center. Reportedly intelligent and savvy beyond his years.

175. Thomas Graham, CB - Oregon: This guy is fun. He seems like one of those really obnoxious DBs to play against who always has their nose in the route, makes plays on the ball consistently, and celebrates each time like he just won the game. Even if he's not an immediate contributor at Nickel, he'd be a solid ST presence until he develops.

199. Joshua Kaindoh, EDGE - Florida State: Kaindoh's tape is interesting. He doesn't blow you away with technique, but he has this bizarre magnetism to the quarterback, like a freight train tumbling downhill. I love the impact he lays into his hits, and seems like a high character dude.

Man, Kyle Trask goes in a different spot every mock I read. His value fluctuates so much week to week.

I'm personally not a fan of Leatherwood. I don't see him in very many 1st round mocks.

I’ve seen Trask mostly go mid to backend of the first on most mocks, and mid 2nd round on simulated drafts. Some trickle down to early 3rd in sim. I’m not sold on Trask, but if he makes it that far (our second) I’d take him provided Bears take an OL in first. There is a chance Bears get closer to top 10 pick, so who knows what will happen.
