20. Samuel Cosmi OT Texas
52. Asante Samuel Jr. CB Florida State
83. Kyle Trask QB Florida
164. Marvin Wilson DT Florida State
204. Riley Cole LB South Alabama
208. Tamorrion Terry WR Florida State
221. Josh Ball OT Marshall
228. Paris Ford S Pittsburgh

I haven't given it a close look recently, but I can't say I'm impressed by their rankings, based on your draft.

Trask at 83, Wilson at 164, and Terry at 208 all jump out as very unrealistic to me.

Settling in on Mond as my realistic QB of choice, so I did a PFN mock.

Trades:
#20 and #83 for #22 and #53. Titans got Alijah Vera-Tucker and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
#52 for #67 and #109. Texans got Hamsah Nasrilideen.

Goals:
Get a QB
Finish the O-line with two OTs who can start by next year
Improve up the middle with an ILB and a SS
Start building the next WR corps

22. Teven Jenkins, OT, OK State
53. Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan
67. Kellen Mond, QB, TAMU
109. Tylan Wallace, WR, OK State
164. Divine Deablo, SS, Va Tech
204. Frank Darby, WR, Arizona State
208. Chris Rumph III, OLB, Duke
221. Shemar Jean-Charles, CB, Appalachian State
228. Nick Niemann, ILB, Iowa

@karhu

That's one hell of a draft.

If we came away with two starting OTs and a quality QB prospect I would be in a state of bliss.

What would you do with Mond in this situation? Does he hold a clipboard as QB #3 for a year or do you trade Foles for anything you can get?

It'd be fantastic, wouldn't it? If we're not going to flat solve QB this year, I can't think of a better way to go than to flat solve our OL. No other unit is closer to long-term success, and none would have as big an impact after a single draft's worth of investment.

I'd absolutely sit Mond all season. Heck, if I'm the GM, I'd sit down with Nagy first and challenge him to draw up the QB incubator of his dreams. The roster would say three QBs, but we'd only expect two to be available on game day; the guys who won't be playing would put in grown-ass-man hours working on their weak spots. From what I've seen of Mond, that starts with his footwork. So focus mostly on that until he's got it absolutely down. Then see what kind of QB you have and repeat the process from there. He'd have at least two PS QBs doing the same thing beside him, each focusing primarily on one aspect of his game.

I hadn't tried NFLMDB before; thanks for bringing it up. Let's see if I can squeeze my strategy into a no-trade dealie.

1. Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas. Could've/should've been Pitts, which makes me wonder about the underlying big board.

2. Kellen Mond, QB, TAMU. I'm not sure that I'd wait past the 3rd for a QB, so here 'goes. Also, didn't see value at OT or WR here.

3. Spencer Brown, OT, Northern Iowa. Not the dancing bears I'd hoped for, but not a bad OT tandem.

5. Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Iowa. I like him as a kind of anti-Miller WR. Elusive, good hands, seems a ton more self-disciplined.

6a. Jamien Sherwood, S, Auburn. Hard to believe he'll fall nearly this far, but I like him a lot as a high-contrast complement to Jackson.

6b. Shi Smith, WR, South Carolina. The dude can play. At this point, that's about all that matters, even if he reminds me a lot of Mooney.

6c. Keith Taylor, CB, Washington. Big, fast...gets in the way a lot? No ball skills to speak of, but a whole lot to work with as a coverage man.

6d. Nick Niemann, ILB, Iowa. Another high-contrast complementary guy, this time to pair with Smith.
So much road and so few places, so much friendliness and so little intimacy, so much flavour and so little taste.

Friendship is better than fighting, but fighting is more useful.

I'm one of those who much prefers Mills to Mond, but I still love this draft. Love the two tackles. LOVE THEM. Love Deablo. Maybe I'd like to see a better corner sooner is about the only critique I have of this one.

I used a different draft engine, Draft Network instead of PFN .... and the board broke very differently for me. Many of my favs at 20 were gone, so took a different approach:

20. Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
52. Dyami Brown, WR, North Carolina
83. James Hudson, OT, Cincinnati
164. Simi Fehoko, WR, Stanford
204. Jaelon Darden, WR, North Texas (was for you, YdB)
208. Shemar Jean-Charles, CB, Appalachian State
221. Joshua Kaindoh, EDGE, Florida State
228. Ihmir Smith-Marsette, WR, Iowa

Can't say I love the draft - was frustrated that the OTs went so quickly (Washington consistently picked my guy one pick ahead of me) - but was interesting to see what you could make happen when your plan goes out the window. BYU's Brady Christiansen was the best OT on the board at 52 and Dillon Radutz at 20.

I know ... too many WRs.

I have noticed this as well doing these, they literally have the exact same needs and draft 1 spot a ahead of us each round.

Exactly.

A lot of times people only post dream drafts, unrealistic picks, or lopsided trades.
But drafts where other teams' actions broke unexpectedly/badly for you can be very educational, force you to think flexibly and differently, and maybe sober you up about possibilities.

My draft a few posts up definitely didn't go the way I intended on the first two picks.

Damn Wulfy, looks like you're playing Poker drawing to four of a kind. I think after the first two, even I would have a problem taking Darden.

I think if all the OTs are gone in that scenario, I'd look to CB in #2. But one OT I really like but has dropped a bit because of not playing last year after injuring his knee at the end of '19 is Walker Little of Stanford. A couple of other developmental tackles that I like from the Senior Bowl: Dante Smith of East Carolina and Adrian Ealy of Oklahoma. They both looked good there. Hudson also looked good, but if you're going to be forced into him in the third, you might want to back him up with another OT prospect rather than a WR.

With trades, this time

Carolina Receives:
2021: Round 1, Pick 20
Chicago Receives:
2021: Round 2, Pick 39
2021: Round 3, Pick 73
2021: Round 4, Pick 113
2021: Round 5, Pick 151

Detroit Receives:
2021: Round 2, Pick 52
Chicago Receives:
2021: Round 3, Pick 72
2021: Round 3, Pick 101
2021: Round 4, Pick 112

I probably would have made these trades lighter, but the system insisted they were imbalanced until I added more picks.
(I've checked before and they match trade charts reasonably well)

2-39 Creed Humphrey C | Oklahoma Oklahoma TRADE
C finally solved

3-72 Pete Werner ILB | Ohio State Ohio State TRADE
Feel free to play ST or retire any time, Danny

3-73 Walker Little OT | Stanford Stanford TRADE
3-83 Spencer Brown OT | Northern Iowa Northern Iowa
Went with an unusual strategy of 2R3s instead of R1 (picked over) or R2 (wanted C more).
I think at least 1 ought to be good. You might even get 2 starters. With Leno & Ifedi, you can afford to train both for a year.

3-101 Anthony Schwartz WR | Auburn Auburn TRADE
4-112 Simi Fehoko WR | Stanford Stanford TRADE
A pair of WR3-5 types, who can maybe grow into WR2. Definite speed improvement.

4-113 Tyler Shelvin NT | LSU LSU TRADE
John Jenkins left

5-151 Jamie Newman QB | Wake Forest Wake Forest TRADE
Flyer on a good toolset

5-164 Garret Wallow ILB | TCU TCU
Backup with some eventual starter potential

6-204 D.J. Daniel CB | Georgia Georgia

6-208 Zach Davidson TE | Central Missouri Central Missouri
Giant receiver with speed

6-221 Malcolm Koonce OLB | Buffalo Buffalo
Small school PS developmental type

6-228 Luke Farrell TE | Ohio State Ohio State
Giant blocker
I expected better TE options, based on intution and their board, but TE got hammered hard between 164 and 204

I tried doing something a little different today, picking the same players using two different systems. I was able to do the exact draft below on the nflmockdraftdatabase site and fanspeak site using the Draftek board. I think it turned out pretty well! I let both systems run until the pick, they I choose the highest rated player that was available on both sites.

20: R1 P20 QB Mac Jones - Alabama
52: R2 P20 OT Dillon Radunz - North Dakota State
83: R3 P19 WR Jaelon Darden - North Texas
164: R5 P20 CB Deommodore Lenoir - Oregon
204: R6 P20 S James Wiggins - Cincinnati
208: R6 P24 WR Jonathan Adams Jr. - Arkansas State
221: R6 P37 DL Carlo Kemp - Michigan
228: R6 P44 LB Riley Cole - South Alabama

Pretty good draft. Love the first two picks. The only thing I wonder is who was available at CB in Round 3? WR in Round 5? I'm okay with Wallace in 3 but he's sort of...enn. Just wondering if it wouldn't have been better addressing CB there.

With Snowden, are you trying to get Trevis Gipson's twin? lol

Ouch. Don't really need another slot corner. Out of curiosity, what WRs were available in the fifth? Was your guy Fehoko there?

Tells me once again we really need to trade down to get an extra second. OT, CB, and QB all need to be addressed in the first two rounds.

Check this mock out. I used Fanspeak's most recent board. Man, you'd think that the most recent boards would have some handle on the draft, but clearly this one has no clue. But man would I love it if this happened. No trades.

1 - Christian Darrisaw OT (Jenkins went the pick right before).
2 - Greg Newsome II CB (How is he here?)
3 - Davis Mills QB (Ditto)
5 - Seth Williams WR All the speed receivers were gone. Here is a good possession guy with athleticism. Personally, I would trade my second sixth round to get Darden early in the fifth (that's what the cost would have been according to the charts). There are other big receivers later.
6 - Devine Deablo S (Again, how is he here?)
6 - William Sherman OT Not really my guy. This is the pick I would trade. I chose this guy, because I really the OG from West Virginia, Mike Brown, that the Bears have been apparently looking at, but he wasn't on the board.
6 - Garrett Wallow LB If I traded that second sixth rounder, I'd use this pick on that Mike Brown I just mentioned.
6 - Zech McPhearson (No way will he be here) I'd use this on one of the big receivers I mentioned. Check this guy out from Charleston:

Michael Strachan, WR, 6'5", 228, 85" wingspan, 10" hands. Ran a 4.6 40, put up 20 reps, 35" vertical, 10'7" broad, 4.2 shuttle, 6.96 cone. Believe it or not, his cone and shuttle are actually faster than Anthony Schwartz, so he should be able to separate laterally. And he had production: 78 receptions for 1319 yards and 19 TDs in '19. Charleston didn't have a season in '20.

Check him out:

This is the new MY GUY for me.

This mock is totally unrealistic, but I'd love it. Still, I think it does show that we can get a speed WR by moving up in the fifth to late fourth/early fifth, and a bigger receiver later. Save our first three picks if we don't move down for OT, CB, and QB.

Yeah, no way that draft happens but it's fun to see. I've noticed that Fanspeak is especially out of touch this year. It's why I've been primarily using PFN this year.

I stay away from the Jake and Steve boards, they are not that good. I usually go with Draftek or Josh Edwards on Fanspeak.

Today's double draft I used nflmockdraftdatabase and profootballnetwork. I REALLY wanted a CB at 52 but those two boards differ a lot and there were no good options on both boards. Nixon was rated way higher on both sites than any WR, CB, or QB so I went with him. DL is a fairly big need to me as it will be shite next year without Hicks. I am not a very big fan of this draft so it is probably close to what Pace will do, pretty sure I nabbed enough small school guys to make him happy.

20. Teven Jenkins OT Oklahoma State
52. Daviyon Nixon DT Iowa
83. Kyle Trask QB Florida
164. Rodarius Williams CB Oklahoma State

Today's double draft was PFN and Fanspeak with the Draftek board. Mond, Mills, and Trask were all there at 52 on both sites so I rolled the dice and only Mills was left at 83 on both. Unless the staff really likes one of those three, waiting for 83 to see which one is left or wait until next year might be the best approach.

20: R1 P20 OT Samuel Cosmi - Texas
52: R2 P20 CB Eric Stokes - Georgia
83: R3 P19 QB Davis Mills - Stanford
164: R5 P20 WR Josh Palmer - Tennessee
204: R6 P20 LB Riley Cole - South Alabama
208: R6 P24 DL Naquan Jones - Michigan State
221: R6 P37 TE John Bates - Boise State
228: R6 P44 WR Jonathan Adams Jr. - Arkansas State

That is pretty sweet that it prefills and makes the trades in round 1! I definitely think Pace will move down and try to get back into the 4th or 5th. I was able to get 89 and 132 from Cleland, I fully expect Pace to do something close to that. This would be a nice class!

1. Justin Fields QB Ohio State
52. Dillon Radunz OT North Dakota State
89. D’Wayne Eskridge WR Western Michigan
132. Keith Taylor CB Washington
204. Jimmy Morrissey OC Pittsburgh
208. Khyiris Tonga DT BYU
221. Tamorrion Terry WR Florida State
228. Israel Mukuamu S South Carolina
