Rodgers is signing a 4yr/$200M contract with the Packers. Not sure how much of that is guaranteed, but this is sure to hamstring the Packers' cap flexibility for the next few years. Certainly paying him for past performance.
Yikes!

Hopefully GB uses their first round pick on a QB to groom as his replacement.
That would go over well.

This is going to wreak havoc on their cap flexibility. I appreciate that he's really good. But they are paying a 38 year-old QB $50M/year who has been to the SB once in his career.

If you're the Pukers (revolting thought, I know) you would have to contemplate trading Love while he may still have some value. Would you expect a 2nd round pick and maybe another player in a deal? As a team looking for a possible young QB who doesn't have much draft capitol, do you take a chance and trade some vets for him? Erin is playing at least another three years and at that price it's sink or swim with him.
San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don't mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. Music, that's what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.

This likely keeps them from falling below "above average", but also keeps them from getting really good, too.
I do like that this squashes the "everyone else in the division is rebuilding, let's go for it right away!" plan.
What kind of escapability is there if he falls off a cliff?

FWIW, I read something where "according to NFL GM types" Love has next to no trade value. He was a polarizing player coming out and the limited NFL tape on him is just not good. They were saying a third day pick would be the best they could hope for.spudbear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:51 am If you're the Pukers (revolting thought, I know) you would have to contemplate trading Love while he may still have some value. Jesus Christ I was hoping he'd be out of our conference let alone our division.
Hopefully Father Time, who himself is undefeated, catches up to Aaron quick and that contract becomes an albatross.

$153M guaranteed??? You've got to be shitting me! If $100M is not in a certified check up front, the Packers will dig themselves a hole they can't get out of.

I don't know how you make that work over 4 years. I'd love for Mack to break him in into 2 pieces our first game next year and him to never be the same after that.Bears Whiskey Nut wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 12:02 pm $153M guaranteed??? I want him to play healthy for the next 8 bears regular season games and for us to own him EVERY time

1. Drop the "Erin" crap, please.
2. Post it in the right place.
edit:
Also fuck the Packers and Rodgers.

good. we've had an aaron rodgers shaped monkey on our back for years and i dont want to slough it off by him going to another conference. Either he owns us forever or we punch him in the mouth and take what's ours. Not really interested in a third narrative where the NFCN is just putrid like the NFCE and it's always a toss up about who will suck the least.

Now the Bears will have to actually build a team that is actually good to win the division instead of hoping to win it by default. That’s good news, in my opinion.
I always thought Rodgers first name was spelled D-O-U-C-H-E… but I guess you learn something new every day.

The Bears need to finally field an offense that can go toe to toe with Rodgers. Since Rodgers has been in Green Bay, the Bears have lost two 10-3 games to the Packers. In the NFC title game, the Bears gave up two offensive TDs and lost. In 2012, the Bear offense had less than 400 yards of total offense in two games combined against Green Bay. In 2019, the Bears scored 16 points in two games combined against the Packers. Yes, the Bear defense has to perform better - stopping Rodgers isn't a "thing" but containing him and the Packer offense isn't impossible - than it did in 2020 and 2021, but the Bears won't get past Rodgers without a legit offense.
Yes, his current supporting cast is moribund, but Justin Fields has to, imo, prove he's the guy in 2022. If he continues to flounder, Poles has to move on.

To quote the immortal Darth Vader: “All too easy.”
Those dumb bastards want to tie up that kind of money on an almost 40 year old QB not named Tom Brady then step right up and do so.
They just fucked their cap with a Klingon’s dildo.

Yeah it's crazy. As long as he's healthy they're a contender with Rodgers and their not much without him. Will be interesting since I know there's a lot of ways to massage the cap, but this is going to be interesting. Heard the Rodgers deal actually creates $21m in space, but they were still around $50m over after the first few moves and then tagging Adams would fill that cap space creation from Rodgers.

Mr. Rodgers has apparently tweeted out that yes he will be back with the Pack, but the stories about his contract being signed aren't true.

Probably wants to keep himself in the spotlight after the Russell Wilson trade took some of the attention.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 4:55 pm Mr. Rodgers has apparently tweeted out that yes he will be back with the Pack, but the stories about his contract being signed aren't true.

As Barkley said he is that pretty girl that needs all the attention directed towards her.BearsFanInMN wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 5:10 pmProbably wants to keep himself in the spotlight after the Russell Wilson trade took some of the attention.Arkansasbear wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 4:55 pm Mr. Rodgers has apparently tweeted out that yes he will be back with the Pack, but the stories about his contract being signed aren't true.

If they saved 21m, then his hit this year is what, 28m? That leaves 172M, almost all guaranteed, the following 3 seasons. There’s no way they can field a competitive team beyond next season.BearsFanInMN wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 4:14 pmYeah it's crazy.
