Good news for Watson. I wonder if it will start trade discussions rolling or whether the 22 civil cases still pending against him will continue to keep his career in limbo...Grand jury declines to indict Texans QB Deshaun Watson following allegations of sexual misconduct
A Harris County (Texas) grand jury did not find enough evidence to charge Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson following allegations of sexual misconduct stemming from massage therapy sessions.
"After a Harris County grand jury was presented all the evidence and had the opportunity to hear from all witnesses, grand jurors declined to indict Deshaun Watson," Dane Schiller, spokesman for the Harris County District Attorney's Office, said in a statement Friday. "Grand jury proceedings are secret by law, so no information related to their inquiry may be disclosed."

Surely he’ll settle the civil cases?
I doubt it’ll be too much of a financial heartbreak for him

3 first-round picks, other assets, a huge contract, legal issues still outstanding... I'm glad the Bears aren't one of the interested teams.Panthers, Saints have offered deals for Deshaun Watson, likely to meet with QB soon
The Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints have made trade offers for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and are likely to meet with him soon, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Sunday...
Pelissero reported that the Texans' asking price for Watson has not waivered -- three first-round picks and additional assets -- and multiple teams currently are willing to meet that price.

About the same as Wilson trade but Wilson hasn’t got the baggage and has won a Superbowl.

Also, no criminal charges being brought is a pretty massive vindication for Watson, who always has maintained his innocence and predicted this exact outcome. It meant that the evidence was so flimsy that was brought to a grand jury that they didn't think they had a legit case. This is different from going to trial and not being able to prove beyond reasonable doubt, but everyone feeling "pretty sure" they did it (OJ, Zimmerman, etc) or buy their way out of it (Kraft).

I don't understand that at all.
They're nowhere near done digging out the hole they created, but they want to rush out and "max out their credit" now?
They'd have to give up a lot of picks, then have limited finance to help him with, either.

Browns to meet with Texans QB Deshaun Watson on Tuesday; Falcons hope to meet Wednesday
The Cleveland Browns have been doing their due diligence on Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and are expected to meet with the quarterback Tuesday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Good Morning Football.
The Atlanta Falcons are also in the mix for a potential trade for Watson and hope to meet with the quarterback on Wednesday, Rapoport later reported.
Watson met with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers on Monday, Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.

Watson's legal issues just won't go away...
Is this the one woman he didn't reach a settlement with in 2022? It seems odd that it's being filed now, 4 years after it happened and 2 years after similar accusations first came to light.Browns QB Deshaun Watson accused of sexual assault, battery while on date in Oct. 2020 in new civil suit
A lawsuit filed on Monday in Houston, Texas, alleges that Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson committed sexual assault and battery while on a date in Oct. 2020.
The new civil suit claims Watson exposed himself, requested a massage and sexually assaulted the victim before she was able to resist and get him to leave her apartment.
Watson, who at the time was on the Houston Texans, violated sections of the Texas state penal code for indecent exposure and assault, per the suit, and the plaintiff seeks damages of more than $1,000,000.
A league spokesperson declined to comment on Monday.
In Aug. 2022, the NFL suspended Watson for 11 games and fined him $5 million for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy after more than 20 women alleged that Watson committed sexual misconduct during massage therapy sessions.
Watson reached confidential settlements with 23 of the 24 women in 2022. He has previously denied any wrongdoing and maintained that any sex with the women was consensual. Two grand juries in Texas declined to indict Watson in 2022 on criminal complaints filed by 10 women.
Watson was required by the NFL to commit to mandatory evaluation and treatment as part of his reinstatement.

I also don't remember or understand this part.
How do you have criminal complaints filed by 10 separate individuals and the grand jury says "nah, nothing to look into here"??Two grand juries in Texas declined to indict Watson in 2022 on criminal complaints filed by 10 women

Independent of whatever legal shit Watson is dealing with, there's enough anecdotal evidence to make a pretty confident guess about his character when it comes to women. And speaking for myself, the way you treat any women in your life, casually or personally, is immensely reflective of what type of human being you are, so personally I'm already dead set against the guy. He hasn't demonstrated remorse, performed any acts of attrition, or spoken up about the issues beyond claiming his innocence.
Not great.
That said, football-wise, this is the worst trade in NFL history -- for now (waiting to see what the Bears 2nd round pick next year will be).
Watson had taken a year off from football when the scandals broke, and during that time completely lost the zip on his throws and his mind slackened away from the game. The Browns had a knee-jerk reaction to send the Texans an absolute windfall of draft capital, scandal be damned, and ever since Watson concluded his suspension he has been demonstrably inept at the professional level.
His teammates allegedly are not fond of him, and you've got to think the coaches are on their last legs with Watson. He's going to get them fired at this rate.
Flacco coming in off the street and running the Stefanski offense seamlessly is proof enough that Watson is no longer a top 32 quarterback in this league. He's going to be a vastly overpaid backup once the Browns finally release him and eat the ultimate dead money hit, which feels like it'll come before midseason.
Let's review how the Texans have used these assets, courtesy of CBS Sports:

OH YEAH, let's not forget that Baker Mayfield has become a pro bowler in Tampa. LOL.
- The 2022 first (13) was traded to the Eagles for 15 (OL Kenyon Green), 124, 162, and 166
- 124 was subsequently traded to the Browns with 68 and 108 for 44 (WR John Metchie III)
- 162 was subsequently traded to the Broncos with 80 for 75 (DL Christian Harris)
- 166 was subsequently traded to the Bears with 207 for 150 (DL Thomas Booker)
- The 2022 fourth (104) was used on RB Dameon Pierce
- The 2023 first (12) was traded to the Cardinals with 33 and a 2024 1st (27) for 3 (DE Will Anderson Jr.) and 105
- 105 was subsequently traded to the Eagles for a 2024 3rd, which was used on DB Calen Bullock
- The 2023 third (73) was traded to the Rams with 161 for 69 (WR Tank Dell)
- The 2024 1st (23) was traded to the Vikings with 232 for 42 (DB Kamari Lassiter), 188 (LB Jamal Hill) and MIN's 2025 2nd
- The 2024 fourth (123) was traded to the Eagles and then back to the Texans and used on TE Cade Stover
All of those moves resulted in the Texans having 2023 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson Jr., starting wide receiver Tank Dell, starting left guard Kenyon Green, starting free safety Calen Bullock, starting cornerback Kamari Lassiter, wide receiver John Metchie III, linebacker Christian Harris, running back Dameon Pierce, linebacker Jamal Hill and tight end Cade Stover. They also have an extra 2025 second-round pick, via the Vikings, because of the compensation they received from the Browns.
Signing a player who sat out an entire season for legal issues to the first fully-guaranteed quarterback contract in NFL history simply wasn't wise. It gave Cleveland no outs if his tenure with the Browns turned out the way it has. It's also worth noting Cleveland felt like they had to do this because they were competing with the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons at the time for the right to trade for him, and he had initially ruled them out because the Georgia native didn't want to live as far north as Ohio.
Following contract restructures, Watson has a 2025 and 2026 cap hit of $72.935 million in the final two seasons of the deal. Cutting him before June 1 next offseason would result in a net loss of $99.799 million in 2025 and a net loss of $26.864 million in the 2026 offseason according to OverTheCap.com. There's simply no way out of the deal for the Browns without punitive financial consequences.
What makes the Browns' deal for Watson the worst ever is not only they did forfeit six draft picks, including three firsts, but they gave him what was the highest contract guarantee ($230 million) in league history, until Sunday, on a five-year deal without any outs. Not only is the loss of draft capital horrendous, but the salary cap crunch Watson's contract will put Cleveland in across the next two years in 2025 and 2026 is catastrophic. Those are all of the football reasons why the Browns' Watson acquisition is the worst deal in NFL history.

NFL does not plan to place Browns QB Deshaun Watson on Commissioner's Exempt List following sexual assault allegation
The NFL does not plan to place Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson on the Commissioner's Exempt List after Watson was accused of sexual assault and battery while on a date in October 2020 in a new civil lawsuit, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday.
...
"We are reviewing the complaint, and we will look into the matter under the personal conduct policy," league spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in a statement on Tuesday.
Pelissero reported on Tuesday that the NFL's decision not to place Watson on the exempt list was made because there have been no criminal charges filed against Watson and because its review into the matter has just begun.

My only disagreement, Watson never had any arm strength and his combine numbers show it. He just had Deandre Hopkins adjusting to his lobs much like Culpepper had moss.UOK wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 9:37 am Independent of whatever legal shit Watson is dealing with, there's enough anecdotal evidence to make a pretty confident guess about his character when it comes to women. Browns' Deshaun Watson denies new sexual assault allegations; Kevin Stefanski says QB will start Sunday vs. Jaguars
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson on Wednesday denied allegations revealed in a new lawsuit filed this week that he committed sexual assault and battery while on a date in 2020.
"Deshaun strongly denies the allegations in the Jane Doe lawsuit filed Monday," Watson's lawyer, Rusty Hardin, said in a statement on Wednesday. "We have asked him not to comment further while this matter works its way through the courts, but are comfortable he will ultimately be vindicated. We will be ready to defend this case in court at the appropriate time, but don't intend to conduct our defense in the media.
"We would ask that people be patient while the legal process runs its course. In the meantime, Deshaun is going to focus his energy and concentration on football."
Head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Wednesday that Watson will start Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, while referring reporters to the team's Tuesday statement that they will "respect the due process our legal system affords."
Stefanski added that there was no consideration of sitting Watson and that he was not previously aware of the new allegations.
"We are 100 percent focused on Jacksonville, 100 percent focused on going on the road against a good football team, trying to find a way to get a W," Stefanski said.
