Deep Edge class. Sounds like a pretty good edge get for what you can typically get on day 3. Podcast/stream I'm watching loved it.

Could be a potential steal in a few years. He is super fast. I’m glad they didn’t trade Quinn—I think he’ll really benefit from watching him and getting some tips.

Love, love, love this pick. Would've loved it just as much a round or even two earlier.

Limited game video. All you can really see is some speed.

Senior Bowl film is better. He's strong & fast. Holy crap he has an 82.5" wing span. But a longer-term project, unless they want to rotate him in to release the hounds like I want them to.

Looks like more of what we would have liked Leonard Floyd to be. Pretty much of a one trick pony Edge Rusher for now but he can still contribute in the rotation "Flus" is planning on using. He's quick and fast and with some help from Quinn he may get up to speed a little faster. Gotta figure he's the guy they're looking at as Quinn's replacement at least for now.

So this guy is an ex-QB (HS) and ex-WR (college) before he grew out of it. The cool thing is, it seems likely that as a former WR he'll have good ball skills dropping into coverage as a DE once he gets some reps. I think he was used exclusively as a situational pass rusher at Miami and I imagine him being so green they focused on that & the few pieces of technique he could learn and apply on the field on 3rd downs.

So I'm highly optimistic that when the Bears start putting him through a more comprehensive EDGE coaching regime, he might really take well to dropping into coverage like Floyd. Run defense is just something he's going to have to learn if he wants to play more than situationally. But with his quickness I think he'll likely end up doing that pretty well too like Floyd.

A rough Floyd is a good comp for this kid. High value if he's even close.

But unlike Floyd as a Bears this kid will play as a 4-3 DE not a 3-4 OLB. IIRC the Rams also play a typical 4 man front in which Floyd is more a DE than an OLB. IMHO the key to success with guys like Robinson and Floyd is to learn what they do best and allow them to do only that.

Again IMHO we gave Floyd too many responsibilities so he had to think and play simultaneously. I think by now we've all heard "Flus" tell us his way is the exact opposite. He wants his guys to have one job to do and do it at top speed 100% of the time. If that's the case I doubt Robinson will be asked to drop in coverage much if at all other than maybe to cover a screen pass.

Yeah, I don't see Robinson dropping off much at all.

I like the player. Long-term project, but that's the right approach. I know I sim drafted him right about this point numerous times, but can't find any. Must have been all ones that I didn't post.

I've heard comparisons to Mark Anderson. In a similar defense. Hmmm.... I've heard it suggested to try him out in passing only situations. That would make some sense. But at 254#, he needs to have good hands to go with those good feet.

He is literally a converted WR and dual-threat (in HS) QB. Of all potential issues, his hands and athleticism are not up for question.

He's a 5th round Leonard Floyd, with more rawness.

Love the upside on the kid.

He's arguably more stout than Floyd was coming out. I think Floyd was what...235?

Around there yeah, maybe 240 tops?

Robinson put up 225 lbs 25 times :D

Yeah Floyd is still really light, or atleast looks it. His frame isn't big. Robinson still has a bit of room if he wanted to work in 10lbs. Floyd is probably heavier now but at 235 in felt like 250 would be pushing it if he could get there. He was just a slender guy. Cut as fuck dont get me wrong. Robinson could fill out a touch more to 265.

They both are long lean guys.

My man Richard was about 265 as my fuzzy memory recalls.

And even now LA has him listed at 240lbs as an OLB not a DE. The Bears tried to get Floyd playing at 250lbs plus but he could never sustain that kind of weight. I never saw Floyd as being a top edge rusher and I was opposed to drafting him. Robinson on the other hand looks to me like a pure edge rusher who'll need to learn to handle a more versatile role as a DE if he expects to be more than just a rotational 3rd down guy. But Robinson has the build of a 4-3 DE whereas Floyd never did.

Watched some highlights and stuff. My thoughts.

PROS
  • great size, athletic despite it
  • converted WR that could be best utilized in pass rush if he can harness that unique athleticism
CONS
  • needs a lot of coaching and refinement, very raw athlete
  • gotta think he'll be mostly a special teams specialist for some time
I'd be very surprised if Robinson is a consistent presence on this year's team, barring injuries. My hope here is that the NFL doesn't prove to be too fast for him, because that speed and agility combined with his size may not stand out as much at this level.
