I don't know if I'm worried or excited for how miserable this season is going to make you.

This isn’t a criticism but more of analysis.
I imagine certain people who mod or post here are into the Goth scene big time. Maybe even with unofficial alternative names they use in their club.
Behold I am Ragnorok Lord Of The Abyss hear my name and despair.

Tangentially, FWIW, none of the actual goths I know liked Marilyn Manson, but otherwise point taken. The Marshall Plan wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 10:27 am This isn’t a criticism but more of analysis.

2023 Preseason Downside prediction:
5-6 wins, never really healthy all season, a constant shuffling.
We're potentially in a position to draft in the Top 5 again, depending on the Carolina team, and probably have a low-teens (or better) pick ourselves.

Mike Ditka on Papa Bear George Halas: "He's so cheap, he throws around nickels like manhole covers".
I don't think it's cheapness motivating Poles. I'm hoping it's not "smartest guy in the room" syndrome but his attempt to extricate the Bears from salary cap/lack of draft pick hell in '22.

You can’t make an omelette without breaking eggs.
That’s what he’s done to some degree and he’s rebuilding through the draft.
Cuts, cheap vets, they’re just part of the process. The main thing is a reset. With respect to the salary cap, that was a big millstone round our necks, stopping us from moving forward. So he dealt with it. Now we can look forward without restrictions on progress.

And shopping in the clearance bin even then, at least at WR. and TE. Sign 4 or 5 whose total career production would about equal one year for a good guy and the cost would be about the same. And, no, I don't think the Bears are a cheap franchise, Poles is working to maximize flexibility in 2023 and to hopefully motivate guys to really earn more than a 1 year conract.

I was going to correct you about there being no Dollar Generals in Chicago, until I checked a Google Map.
Somehow I never go by any of them.

That's what happens when you live in swanky neighborhoods.

We just have Dollar Tree's where I live.
Are those considered more upscale, now that they've bumped their prices to $1.25?

I’m fine with this approach to the offseason. We came in with little money and little draft picks, so Poles had his hands tied from the beginning. Add some cheap young options to see if they contribute anything. Use this season as an evaluation year, then enter next offseason with a shitload of cap space and likely a full slate of high draft picks. That’s when we can really start building this team in Poles vision.

I for one approve of the mentality of this year. I am tired of our GM thinking we are actual contenders. Normally we put a bandaid on it and mortgage some future. Maybe generalizing but this team needed to reset salary cap and draft picks etc..shrug
