For up to $10M, too rich for my blood but the real money is probably half of that. Good for him but glad the Bears did not pay that much.

Good for him. The contract is for up to $10M, no mention of guarantees. In a rebuilding year, not the type of guy the Bears want to be investing in. Probably will result in the Bucs not re-signing Suh.
Drafts are like snowflakes, no two are alike.

For the Bucs, “Hello, Hicks” likely means, “See ya, Suh.”
The Buccaneers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with veteran defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The contract is worth “up to” $10 million.
The development likely means that Ndamukong Suh won’t be back for a fourth season with the Bucs. The second overall pick in the 2010 draft, Suh has played for the Lions, Dolphins, Rams, and Bucs.
He appeared in Super Bowl LIII with the Rams, and he won Super Bowl LV with the Bucs.
Hicks joined the Bears in 2016. He was a third-round pick of the Saints in 2012. He spent part of the 2015 season with the Patriots, following a trade from New Orleans.

Good fit for them. Hicks should definitely be in a rotational role now but I believe that when healthy he can still be a force on the field.
Hope he gets a ring with the Bucs, I always enjoyed cheering for him on the Bears.

Do they give out rings winning the NFC south? That's the only ring he could get down there since we will be winning the Super Bowl.WagonForce wrote: ↑Wed Jun 01, 2022 9:45 am Good fit for them. I'm rarely sentimental about ex-Bears when they move to other teams, but in this case I will absolutely be rooting for Hicks to play well there.

He's obviously not wrong.
But it seems like an odd complaint from a defensive player.

He was making the point that a QB who could control play and keep his offense on the field for long periods of time kept the defense fresh. Hardly any rocket science nor inaccurate with Bears' offenses.

Going to have to disagree about the rocket science part or that it's clear that he was referring to. Here's where the Bears have ranked in time of possession for the past 5 years he was with the Bears:
Year | Rank |
---|---|
2017 | 28 |
2018 | 3 |
2019 | 13 |
2020 | 18 |
2021 | 15 |
Year | Rank |
---|---|
2012 | 25 |
2013 | 1 |
2014 | 19 |
Year | Rank |
---|---|
2015 | 20 |
I think it's pretty clear he was just taking a dig at the quality of QBs.

Nice stats, thanks for posting. I think he was also pointing out that having an offense which could put up sufficient points takes pressure off the defense to win every game.Xee wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 3:04 pmGoing to have to disagree about the rocket science part or that it's clear that he was referring to. Not exactly a huge difference.

Definitely can't fault him for that. Then again, that's sort of what the Bears are known for, barely scoring enough points and relying on a strong defense to win the game.Grizzled wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 6:16 pmNice stats, thanks for posting. I dunno, even in that context, it comes off as him wanting to be on a team where he doesn't have to work as hard. Maybe I'm just cranky today.

D-linemen and O-linemen have issues with injuries as they age. Must be all that extra weight they carry around. I know as I age my knees and feet hurt a lot. Though I have dropped about 20 pounds lately and i am hoping that helps lessen the aches and pains of aging.
A new Era begins in the NFC North!
Sadly, it does not involve the Bears....

All his injuries have been a function of his weight no question, and many of them have been his own fault (e.g. him unrealistically chasing Cousins). His brain is telling him to do things his body no longer is capable of doing.
IMO he had a steep rise from nothing to beast, and then didn't handle it well and let himself get way out of shape and then never recovered from the subsequent injuries. The Fridge was similar - a beast for just a couple of years and then got to big and struggled.

I almost completely blame Pagano for fattening Hicks up. Pags always had that one 400lb fatty on the DL. It's his MO everywhere he's been.
Hicks had the frame to do it, and enough athleticism to handle the extra weight, but it backfired and he was never the same.
