Goodbye DirecTV. It's official Youtube (Google) now has the rights for the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Apparently, AppleTV was the frontrunner until they recently dropped out. Evidently, they wanted to make it cheaper for customers. But the NFL has deals with CBS and Fox that prevents them from lowering the price significantly :( . So they pulled out and YouTube (Google) got the deal.

Google will pay $2.5 billion per year for the rights. The price for consumers will be comparable to the current cost through DirecTV.

This pretty much means the death of DirecTV.

Sunday Ticket will be available as an add-on package on YouTube TV and standalone a-la-carte on YouTube Primetime Channels starting with the 2023 NFL season. The New York Times is reporting that YouTube may have offered upwards of $2.5 billion for the rights, over $1 billion more than current provider Direct TV. No word yet on possible package prices.

Good. Plan was to cancel DirecTV end of season. I cancelled but then they gave me the Ticket for free.

Surprised though as I would’ve thought Apple or Amazon as the winner.

Im kind of happy that Apple or Amazon didn’t get it. They already get the lions share of streaming stuff. Good for YouTube TV.

The big question is... What will it cost?
Mikefive's theory: The only time you KNOW that a sports team player, coach or management member is being 100% honest is when they're NOT reciting "the company line".

Go back to leather helmets, NFL.

I'm pretty happy about this. We use YouTube TV and I like it quite a bit.

I read they're going to be charging $300 so similar price. If they still offer student discounts I'll get that for a while longer - until my son's MSU email goes away.
